Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid Mattress Review: General Overview
Brooklyn Bedding boasts a pretty big catalog of some of the best bed-in-a-box mattresses:
- Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe
- Brooklyn Bedding Bowery Hybrid
- Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid
- Brooklyn Bedding Sedona Elite
- Brooklyn Bedding Spartan
Their Signature Hybrid model is the bestseller and even sports the hashtag #BestMattressEver.
But what makes the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid so special? Simply put, Brooklyn Bedding has loaded their mattress with premium materials and features. Individually-wrapped coils offer support and a springy, responsive surface. Luxurious foam layers add comfort and promote cooling. Additionally, there are three firmness options so you can customize the mattress to fit your unique sleeping position.
We’re talking specifically about the Medium model of the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid. Keep reading to see who will love this mattress:
Pros of the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid
- It’s one of the best cheap mattresses. Brooklyn Bedding owns their own factory, so they can cut out the middleman and slash prices.
- It’s a great match for combination sleepers, those who tend to shift position in the night. The Medium model offers both lumbar support and pressure relief, which is beneficial for most back and side sleepers.
- Sleepers who prefer the feel of an innerspring mattress should like the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid. This mattress has a bouncy and responsive feel.
Cons of the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid
- Those looking for something with a slow-moving memory foam feel may not like the Brooklyn Bedding Signature. This mattress has springy coils at the bottom. If you want to gently “sink into” your bed, you may want to consider getting one of the best memory foam mattresses.
- Those looking for something more deluxe may want to consider the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe instead. The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid doesn’t have many bells and whistles.

Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid Mattress Firmness and Feel
When I review mattresses, I start by looking at firmness and feel. This gives me a good idea of who the mattress should work for.
How Firm Is the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid?
The Medium model of the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid comes in at 6.5/10 on our firmness scale, which is standard for medium-firm mattresses. The top of the mattress feels quite soft due to the comfortable proprietary foams. Beneath that, the mattress gets firmer due to the individually-wrapped coils.
Choose Soft If: | Choose Medium If: | Choose Firm If: |
You are a side sleeper or lightweight sleeper | You are a back sleeper or an average weight combination sleeper | You are a stomach sleeper or heavier person |
Sleeping on the Brooklyn Bedding Hybrid Signature Hybrid
If you’re a back sleeper, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid should offer a wonderful balance of comfort and support. I felt my hips sink in just the right amount, and the top foam layers even offered a bit of contouring. The coils gave lots of support. Overall, it is one of the best mattresses for back sleepers.
Most side sleepers will get the pressure relief they need on this mattress. When I rested on my side, I didn’t feel any pain along my shoulder or hip. That said, some side sleepers might want to opt for the more pressure-relieving Soft model instead.
I needed a bit more hip support while stomach sleeping. I’m a tall guy who is 6’7″, and I felt my back craning out of alignment when I slept on my stomach. The Firm model may be a better option for stomach sleepers.
What Does the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid Feel Like?
Thanks to the multiple foam layers, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid has a bit of a pillow top feel. There’s a good bounce to it, which makes it an especially good fit for combination sleepers and those preferring a “springy” sleeping surface.
Sleeper Weight | Back Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Stomach Sleepers |
Lightweight (Under 130 lb) | Excellent | Excellent | Excellent |
Average (130 – 230 lb) | Excellent | Good | Fair |
Heavyweight (Over 230 lb) | Good | Bad | Bad |
Is the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Mattress Good For Lightweight People (Under 130 lb)?
- It’s a great match for lightweight back sleepers, because it offers ample lumbar support and plenty of cushioning.
- It also works well for lightweight side sleepers, thank to the plush comfort layer that cushions shoulders and hips.
- Lightweight people won’t compress the comfort layer too much, so they should feel plenty of hip support on the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid.
Is the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Mattress Good For Average Weight People (130 – 230 lb)?
- This mattress works well for average weight back sleepers. The coils help promote the proper spinal alignment, while the comfort layers offer pressure relief.
- It’s a good match for most side sleepers, but people who weigh closer to 230 lb may feel some pressure along their shoulders and hips.
- Because it’s a medium-firm mattress, it doesn’t offer enough support for most average weight stomach sleepers. If you fall in this category, you may want to opt for the Firm model instead.
Is the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Mattress Good For Heavyweight People (Over 230 lb)?
- It’s a good match for heavyweight back sleepers. The coils are strong and supportive, and the comfort layers help relieve pressure.
- Heavyweight side sleepers will compress the top layer of the mattress quite a bit, which will make the bed feel firmer. This could create hip and shoulder pain down the road.
- The Medium model isn’t supportive enough for heavyweight stomach sleepers. People in this category may want to consider the Brooklyn Bedding Titan instead.
Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid Mattress Construction
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature hybrid is made from high-quality materials. Here’s what you’ll find in the mattress, layer by layer:
Cover
Around the mattress, there’s a thin and breathable cover that doesn’t trap body heat. You have the option to upgrade to the Cloud Pillow Top, which comes with a cover that feels cool to the touch.
Comfort Layers
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress has three comfort layers. The first one is made of a 1.5″ Premium Quilted Top, which gently contours the body and helps wick away moisture. If you opt for the Cloud Pillow Top instead, you get additional pressure-relieving foams, and a cover with enhanced cooling capabilities.
The second comfort layer is made of 1.5″ of Supreme Response Comfort Foam, a material that feels bouncier than traditional memory foam. Next up, there’s a 1″ transition layer that helps prevent sleepers from “bottoming out” on the mattress.
Support Layer
At the bottom, there’s an 8″ layer of individually-encased Ascension coils, which offer support and promote airflow. Beneath this sits a .25″ base foam layer made of high-density foam.
Mattress Height
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress is 12” tall.

Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid Mattress Performance
How does the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid model actually perform? We ran it through a number of tests to find out.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
The mattress does a good job of regulating body temperature and dissipating heat. The coil layer allows for plenty of airflow, and the responsive foam layers help prevent heat buildup. However, if you’re a particularly hot sleeper, you may want to upgrade to the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe mattress. This model contains gel-infused foam, which helps pull heat away from the body.
Motion Transfer
As a fairly bouncy mattress, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid doesn’t absorb motion well. For couples who share a bed together, this may be an issue. Partners could disturb one another when they move around at night.
Edge Support
The edge support isn’t fantastic on the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid. It collapsed a bit when I sat and rested near the edge. I didn’t feel like I was going to roll off, but this is still something to note.
Durability
The high-density foam and coils make this a fairly robust mattress. I anticipate that it will hold up well for at least seven to 10 years. To find more options, see our list of the best mattress that won’t sag.
Off-Gassing
I noticed a slight chemical smell when I first unboxed the mattress, but it subsided after about 48 hours. This is pretty standard for a bed-in-a-box mattress like the Brooklyn Bedding.
Noise
I did not notice any noise as I moved around on the mattress, though it’s possible that the coils might start to squeak over time.
Sex
It’s really easy to move around and change positions on the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid mattress, which makes it a good mattress for sex.
Company Policies
Now, let’s take a closer look at Brooklyn Bedding’s fine print. These company policies will give you an idea of how confident you should feel about your purchase.
Warranty Info
Brooklyn Bedding backs its product with a 10-year mattress warranty, which is standard within the online mattress space.
Sleep Trial
You’ll have 120 nights to try out the mattress and ensure it’s to your liking. You should note that the trial period can only be used once per customer per calendar year.
Return Policy
If you don’t find the mattress satisfying, you can arrange an exchange or a no-fees return during that 120-night trial. Brooklyn Bedding requires that customers wait 30 days before initiating a return. This ensures you have time to break in the mattress and truly give it a chance. It’s also important to note that shipping fees are non-refundable to customers in Hawaii, Alaska and Canada.
Common Brooklyn Bedding Complaints
On Brooklyn Bedding’s website, many people complained about shipping and delivery. However, many customers noted that they a great customer service experience after they reached out to the company for help.
Another complaint I came across has to do with Brooklyn Bedding’s 120-night risk-free sleep trial period. Some customers become frustrated with the fine print in the policy. Be sure to read up on these policies and make sure you fully understand them before purchasing.
