Loom & Leaf Mattress Firmness and Feel
When shopping for a new mattress, it’s critical to consider a bed’s firmness and feel. These factors have a big impact on whether a mattress will feel comfortable for different types of sleepers.
How Firm Is the Loom & Leaf?
The Loom & Leaf mattress offers two different options for firmness, the Relaxed Firm and Firm. The Relaxed Firm is designed for a nice balance of softness and support, ideal for side sleepers, while the Firm is for customers seeking a firmer mattress, ideal for back and stomach sleepers.
When first lying on the Loom & Leaf mattress, it should feel more firm. After a little time, the mattress should soften. Overall, the firmness should be average or slightly firmer than average, a 6.5 or 7/10.
Choose Relaxed Firm | Choose Firm If: |
– You are a side sleeper or lightweight person | – You are a back sleeper or stomach sleeper |
Sleeping on the Loom & Leaf Mattress
While side sleeping on the Loom & Leaf mattress, you should feel great pressure relief on the shoulders and hips. Moving on to back sleeping, the foam should press into the lumbar area and provide support to help prevent back pain. Stomach sleeping on the Loom & Leaf might be a bit more challenging because the mattress may lack proper support, especially in the hip area.
What Does the Loom & Leaf Feel Like?
The top layers of memory foam make for a classic memory foam feel, with a slow sinking-in feeling similar to quicksand. The Loom & Leaf mattress should be a great option for fans of traditional memory foam.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs
Average weight back and side sleepers should enjoy the Loom & Leaf mattress. When side sleeping, there should be nice pressure relief on the shoulders and hips from the comfort layer. When back sleeping, average weight sleepers should feel ample support as the foam presses into the lumbar area.
Average weight stomach sleepers may need more support for their hips and should look at our list of best mattresses for stomach sleepers.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs
For heavyweight sleepers, the Loom & Leaf Relaxed Firm mattress should feel more like a 7.5/10 in terms of firmness.
Heavyweight sleepers should feel a nice compression when side sleeping. However, heavyweight back and stomach sleepers may need more support as their hips should sink into the mattress. Heavier sleepers or those that sleep on their stomachs or back may want to look at the Loom and Leaf Firm model or our list of the best firm mattresses.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs
The Relaxed Firm mattress is ideal for side sleepers of an average or a heavier weight. However, lightweight sleepers may find the mattress to be a touch too firm. Check out our Saatva Youth mattress review for a great option for kids and lightweight teens.

Now that you know what the Loom & Leaf mattress feels like, let’s take a look at how the mattress is made.
Cover
Looking at the Relaxed Firm version, the cover is quilted, organic cotton. This soft top is breathable and helps with cooling.

The first layer is 2” of gel memory foam that has a 4 lb density and is convoluted to help with airflow.
The middle third of the comfort layer has a gel laminate panel on top, which is a proprietary Spinal Zone Gel designed to help with cooling and spinal support.
Beneath that, there is a 2” layer of denser memory foam, which has a 5 lb density and provides amazing body contouring.

How Does the Loom & Leaf Mattress Perform?
A mattress’s performance in areas like motion transfer and edge support can make or break a purchase decision. Let’s review the Loom & Leaf mattress and how it performs.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
All foam mattresses aren’t as cool as hybrid or innerspring mattresses. However, the Loom & Leaf mattress shouldn’t sleep hot because the memory foam is gel infused, convoluted for airflow, and the middle third is laminated with gel to help with cooling.
Motion Transfer
Like most all-foam mattresses, there was little to no motion transfer on the Loom & Leaf mattress. This is great for couples who don’t want to be disturbed by their partner’s movements. See our list of the best mattresses for couples for more like the Loom & Leaf.
Edge Support
When sitting on the edge of the Loom & Leaf mattress, it may collapse a bit but you shouldn’t feel like you are going to fall off. For an all-foam mattress, the Loom & Leaf demonstrates above average edge support and should be a good choice those who enjoy sleeping at the edge of the mattress.
Durability
The Loom & Leaf mattress is made of durable materials and should be a long term investment that will stand the test of time.

Off-Gassing
We noticed no chemical smell with the Loom & Leaf. It did not come compressed in a cardboard box, so there were no trapped chemicals.
Noise
We didn’t hear any notable sound from the Loom & Leaf. Thanks to its all-foam construction, the mattress should always remain silent.
Sex
Those looking for the best mattress for sex are typically looking for a mattress with bounce and resilience. Loom & Leaf’s upper foam layers are slow-reacting, which makes it a little more difficult to move around on the mattress. While the mattress is good in many areas, it may not be the best mattress for sex.
Loom & Leaf Mattress Company Policies
Before making any big purchase decision, it’s necessary to review the company’s policies. Let’s review the fine print that comes with the Loom & Leaf mattress.

Loom & Leaf vs Saatva
The Loom & Leaf and the Saatva mattresses are very different in construction. While the Loom & Leaf is an all-foam mattress, the Saatva mattress includes supportive coils. The feel of the two mattresses roughly follows the main differences between an innerspring and memory foam mattress. The Loom & Leaf mattress should have the slow-reacting, sinking in feel that’s typical of memory foam. The Saatva mattress should have a sturdier, more standard feel where you feel that you sleep “on” the mattress rather than “in” the mattress.
Like the Loom & Leaf and its firmness options, the Saatva mattress comes in three firmnesses: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. Our team reviewed the Luxury Firm version, and it felt close to a 7/10 in terms of firmness.
There is not a huge price difference between the Saatva vs Loom & Leaf, however, depending on the size that you purchase, the Loom & Leaf should be a bit more expensive.
Who Should Get the Loom & Leaf?
- Those who enjoy the classic feel of an all-foam mattress
- Hot sleepers looking for airflow and breathability
- Those who want to sink into their mattress instead of sleep “on top” of the mattress.
Who Should Get the Saatva?
- Those who are looking for a high-quality innerspring mattress that is also an excellent value
- Anyone who wants one of the best orthopedic mattresses
- Fans of innerspring mattresses and those who prefer to sleep “on top” of their mattress

Loom & Leaf vs Tempur-Pedic Mattress Comparison
Tempur-Pedic was one of the first companies to create a memory foam mattress and is responsible for its rising popularity. Being an all-foam mattress, the Loom & Leaf is similar in construction. There are some notable differences.
RELATED: Best Mattress for the Money
The Loom & Leaf mattress has one model with two firmness options, while Tempur-Pedic has a full line of many different models. Tempur-Pedic is made of high quality foams, and is naturally going to react a lot slower than the foam in the Loom & Leaf mattress. Finally, because of its luxury status, the Tempur-Pedic is going to be much more expensive than the Loom and Leaf mattress.
Who Should Get the Loom & Leaf?
- Those who want to save money on an all-foam mattress
- People who need a firmer-than-average mattress
Who Should Get the Tempur-Pedic?
- Those looking for a mattress that provides unmatched pressure relief
- Fans of a mattress with super slow-moving memory foam feel
