Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid Mattress Firmness And Feel
Firmness and feel are two important factors to consider whenever you’re shopping for a new mattress. They have a big impact on whether a bed will suit your preferred sleep position(s) and other sleep needs. So to begin understanding whether the Bloom Hybrid is the best mattress for you, let’s take a look at its firmness and feel!
How Firm Is The Bloom Hybrid?
We ranked Brooklyn Bedding’s Bloom Hybrid mattress around a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. The industry standard for average firmness is 6.5/10, so this suggests the Bloom Hybrid is right around medium-firm. The coils are firm and supportive, while the latex comfort layer offers some pressure relief and balances out the support layer below.
That said, note that firmness is somewhat subjective. Depending on your body weight and sleep position, you might find that this mattress feels a touch firmer or softer.
Sleeping On The Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid
We felt well supported while back sleeping on the Bloom Hybrid. Our hips sank into the top layer for a touch of pressure relief, but not so far as to pull the spine out of alignment. We enjoyed great support from the coils, and our lumbar spine felt especially well supported.
We experienced surprisingly good pressure relief while side sleeping on this mattress. We sank into the soft, quilted cover and felt little pressure on the shoulder and hip. It’s possible that someone who spends all night on their side might start to feel a little jammed up, but overall we felt quite comfortable.
The Bloom Hybrid felt a bit too soft for stomach sleeping. Our hips bowed into the mattress a touch, which tugged the spine out of alignment. People who spend all night on their stomachs will probably want to look for a dedicated mattress for stomach sleepers.
What Does The Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid Feel Like?
Because of its coils and natural latex, the Bloom Hybrid has a bouncy, responsive feel. It is easy to move around, and sleepers should feel like they are sleeping on top of the mattress (rather than sinking into it).
Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs
Average-weight back sleepers should enjoy plenty of spinal support along with a touch of pressure relief. The Bloom Hybrid could also be a good match for average-weight side sleepers, who should enjoy decent pressure relief around the shoulder and hip. This mattress is probably not quite supportive enough for average-weight stomach sleepers.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs
Heavyweight back sleepers should feel very well supported on the Bloom Hybrid. Heavyweight side sleepers might experience more pressure than average-weight side sleepers, but the Bloom Hybrid could still be a decent option for folks who enjoy a firmer feel. This mattress is almost certainly too soft for heavyweight stomach sleepers, who might want to seek out a mattress for heavy people.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs
Overall, lightweight sleepers should fare pretty well on the Bloom Hybrid. Back sleepers will feel well supported, side sleepers should obtain decent pressure relief, and even lightweight stomach sleepers might feel appropriately supported on this mattress.

Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid Mattress Construction
Now that you know what it feels like to sleep on top of the Bloom Hybrid, let’s take a look at what’s inside this mattress! We’ll assess each layer of the bed’s construction and share how different materials influence performance and feel.
Cover
The Bloom Hybrid’s cover is quilted with a mixture of sustainably sourced Joma wool and organic cotton. Together, these materials create a soft, breathable, and eco-friendly cover that offers a touch of pressure relief right off the bat.
Comfort Layer
The primary comfort layer on the Bloom Hybrid consists of 3” of all-natural Talalay latex. This is a very bouncy, responsive, breathable, and durable material that offers some pressure relief as well as support. It’s also free of harmful chemicals.
Support Layers
The Bloom Hybrid’s main support layer is composed of 8” of individually-encased, durable, and highly supportive coils. The coils also allow for plenty of airflow through the center of the mattress, which helps keep this bed sleeping cool. Underneath the coils, there’s a 1” layer of high-density base foam that provides structure and support for the mattress overall.
Mattress Height
The Bloom Hybrid mattress is approximately 13” tall.

Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid Mattress Performance
Now that you know about the Bloom Hybrid’s firmness, feel, and construction, you’re probably starting to make some assessments about whether this mattress might be right for you. But don’t make up your mind just yet! There are still a few important factors to consider. We put this bed through a range of tests with regard to temperature regulation, motion transfer, edge support, and more. Let’s see how it performed!
Sleeping Hot Or Cold
The Bloom Hybrid should keep you sleeping cool thanks to its breathable cover, naturally cooling Talalay latex comfort layer, and the coils, which allow for airflow throughout the mattress. See our best cooling mattresses for more like the Bloom Hybrid.
Motion Transfer
Because the Bloom Hybrid is a bouncy and responsive mattress, it probably won’t shock you to learn that it’s not the best when it comes to motion transfer. Partners could feel each other’s movements during the night, so keep this in mind if you’re hunting for a mattress for couples.
Edge Support
In our experience, edge support is not a highlight of the Bloom Hybrid. The mattress collapsed under us a bit while sitting near the edge, and we felt like we could roll off the bed while lying down near the edge.
Durability
The Bloom Hybrid should be a long-lasting mattress that won’t sag for years to come. The Talalay latex and pocketed coils are both very durable materials that will stand up to years of use. This should be a great long-term investment.
Off-Gassing
Because the Bloom Hybrid is made with eco-friendly materials that are low in Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), it shouldn’t produce noticeable off-gassing.
Noise
At the time of our review, we didn’t observe any notable noise from the Bloom Hybrid. That said, because this bed contains coils, it’s possible they could start to squeak a bit over time.
Sex
When people look for a mattress for sex, they’re usually concerned about being able to change positions easily. The Bloom Hybrid is a very bouncy and responsive mattress, so it should be a good match. Partners shouldn’t feel stuck in this mattress.

Common Bloom Hybrid Mattress Complaints
In our research, the most common complaint that we found about the Bloom Hybrid mattress is that it doesn’t do a great job of minimizing motion transfer. (More on that above.) If you’re a light sleeper, you might be disturbed by your partner’s or pet’s movements during the night.
How Does The Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid Compare To Other Mattresses?
If you’re considering the Bloom Hybrid, then you’ve probably looked at other online mattresses as well. This is a good idea! Comparison shopping will help you feel more certain that you’ve purchased the best bed for you. To make things easier, we’ve pitted the Bloom Hybrid against two of its biggest competitors below.
Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid Vs Casper Hybrid
The Bloom Hybrid and the Casper Hybrid are both popular online mattresses, and at first glance they might look pretty similar. The Bloom Hybrid is a hybrid mattress that layers latex over coils, while the Casper layers foam over coils. The latex and foam (respectively) create different feels, however—more on that in a moment. And the Casper is constructed with a Zoned Support system that makes the mattress firmer near the center (for extra support) and softer near the head and foot (for additional pressure relief). The Bloom Hybrid is not zoned.
These mattresses also differ when it comes to firmness. We ranked the Bloom Hybrid right around average firmness at 6.5/10, while we found the Casper Hybrid to be firmer at around 7/10.
Because both beds feature bouncy coils and responsive comfort layers, they have similar feels. These are both bouncy and responsive mattresses that make it easy to move around.
These mattresses differ a bit when it comes to price. A Queen-size Bloom Hybrid starts around $, while the same size Casper Hybrid is less expensive at a starting price of $1495.00.
Who Should Get The Bloom Hybrid?
- Fans of latex mattresses
- Folks who are looking for an eco-friendly mattress
- People who want a medium-firm bed
Who Should Get The Casper Hybrid?
- People who prefer foam instead of latex
- Folks who want a slightly firmer mattress

Brooklyn Bedding Bloom Hybrid Vs Loom and Leaf
Brooklyn Bedding’s Bloom Hybrid and Saatva’s Loom and Leaf are both billed as some of the best luxury mattresses. Even though they both fall into this category, they have very different constructions. The Bloom Hybrid is a hybrid mattress that layers latex over coils, while the Loom and Leaf is an all-foam bed.
In spite of their major construction differences, these beds are quite similar when it comes to firmness. We ranked both of them around 6.5/10, or right around medium-firm.
These beds differ again when it comes to feel. The Bloom Hybrid has a very bouncy and responsive feel, and it’s very easy to move around on this bed. Meanwhile, the Loom and Leaf has more of the slower-moving feel of a memory foam mattress. It’s not particularly easy to change positions on the Loom and Leaf.
Finally, these beds are priced pretty comparably. The Bloom Hybrid starts around $ for a Queen-size, while the same size Loom and Leaf costs slightly less at a starting price of $2395.00.
Who Should Get The Bloom Hybrid?
- Fans of latex mattresses
- People who prefer a bouncy and responsive feel
- Hot sleepers
Who Should Get The Loom And Leaf?
- People who prefer a slow-moving feel
- Folks for whom budget is not an issue
- Couples who want a mattress that minimizes motion transfer
