Nest Sparrow Mattress Firmness and Feel
First things first – let’s see what the Nest Sparrow mattress feels like. That way, you can easily determine whether it will work for you!
How Firm is the Nest Sparrow?
Here at Mattress Clarity, we use a firmness scale that ranges from 1-10. Though it may seem counterintuitive, 6.5/10 is the industry standard for medium-firm mattresses. And it just so happens that the Sparrow comes in at this ranking. The strong coils, combined with the plush memory foam, gives it a classic medium-firm feel.

Sleeping On The Nest Sparrow
This versatile mattress works well for most back and side sleepers, because it creates a great balance of comfort and support. Most stomach sleepers will likely think this mattress feels too soft.
What Does the Nest Sparrow Feel Like?
The Nest Sparrow Signature Hybrid has a thick and plush pillow top made with slow-moving memory foam. When you press your hand into the material, you’ll notice that the foam takes a while to snap back into place.
But you won’t feel like you’re sinking on this bed! Unlike many all-foam mattresses, the Nest Sparrow doesn’t create a quicksand sort of feeling. The supportive innersprings give the mattress a responsive quality, so you can still move around on top of the bed relatively easily.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230 lb
Back sleepers in this weight range should feel extremely comfortable on the Nest Sparrow. The plush memory foam gently hugs the hips, and the coils keep the back in a neutral alignment.
Average weight side sleepers should also enjoy resting on the Nest Sparrow because its thick comfort layer creates great body contouring and pressure relief.
However, average weight stomach sleepers may not love the Nest Sparrow mattress. Generally, stomach sleepers need firm mattresses in order to keep their spines in the correct position. If a bed feels too soft, the hips can dip into the top layer. Over time, this can lead to chronic lower back pain.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb
Heavyweight back sleepers should feel well supported on the Nest Sparrow, but it may not work for other sleeping positions. When resting on their sides, larger people might notice some pain along pressure points. It’s no surprise then, that the Nest Sparrow plush isn’t quite supportive enough for heavyweight stomach sleepers. However, we expect the Nest Sparrow firm model to work well for people in this weight range.
Take a look at our list of the best mattresses for heavy people for even more great options.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lb
Lightweight sleepers should enjoy the Nest Sparrow in all sleeping positions. Because smaller people won’t compress the comfort layer too much, it should feel supportive enough for stomach sleeping.
Nest Sparrow Mattress Construction
To fully understand what sets this bed apart from the rest, we’ll need to take a look at what it’s made out of. Here’s a detailed overview of its construction.
Mattress Height
The Nest Sparrow Signature Hybrid is 12” tall.
Cover
Around the outside, you’ll find Nest Bedding’s thermic phase change cooling cover. Phase change material is one of the best cooling fabrics out there, and it makes the mattress feel cool to the touch. This cover is tufted around the outside, which gives the mattress a luxurious pillow top look and feel.
Comfort Layer
A zipper surrounds the cover, and inside you’ll find a layer of gel-infused memory foam. Not a fan of thick memory foam? Nest has you covered. Simply unzip the cover and replace the comfort layer with a different foam topper. Nest Bedding will provide that for you, if you’re unhappy with the current firmness level.
Best of all, Nest Bedding allows you to split the comfort layers on each side of the bed. This comes in handy for couples, especially when each person has a different preference.
Support Layer
The support layer consists of 6″ of reinforced pocketed coils. These not only give the mattress a bouncy feel–they also enhance the edge support and promote airflow. A thin layer of 1″ base foam sits below the coils.

Nest Sparrow Mattress Performance
While it’s always important to examine a mattress’s firmness level and feel, we can’t forget about the other performance features. Here’s how the Nest Sparrow ranks when it comes to cooling, motion isolation, edge support, and more.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
The Nest Sparrow Signature Hybrid contains many strong coils, which allows room for airflow. Plus, the phase change material in the cover keeps the exterior feeling nice and cool. We expect the comfort layer to trap heat slightly, but overall, this mattress works well for hot sleepers.
Motion Transfer
With its thick comfort layer, the Nest Sparrow isolates motion well. For this reason, we expect it to work great for couples. If your partner shifts sleeping positions during the night, you shouldn’t notice too much of their movement.
RELATED: Best mattresses for couples
Edge Support
Thanks to its reinforced coil system, the Nest Sparrow has excellent edge support. When you sit along the side, you may notice a bit of collapse in the comfort layer. However, the bottom layers stay upright and create ample support.
Durability
Most mattresses last between 7-10 years, but the Nest Sparrow’s high-quality construction should give it a longer lifespan. Overall, we expect this bed to last at least 10 years.
Off-Gassing
It’s common for bed-in-a-box mattresses to release a slight chemical smell when first opened. We call this off-gassing, and it occurred with the Nest Sparrow. After 48 hours, though, the smell totally faded away.
Noise
Even though this mattress has coils, we didn’t notice any loud squeaking noises when we tested it.
Sex
Couples looking for the best mattresses for sex usually want something that’s easy to move around on. The Nest Sparrow should fit the bill. Even though it has a plush pillow top, this mattress feels slightly responsive. Partners should have no issues switching positions on this bed.
Company Policies
It’s important to read the fine print when you’re shopping for a new mattress. To make things simple and easy, we outlined Nest Bedding’s company policies below.

All Nest Bedding mattresses have lifetime comfort guarantees.
Sleep Trial
Customers have 365 nights to test out the mattress in their own home.
Return Policy

How Does The Nest Sparrow Compare To Other Mattresses?
With so many different mattress brands out there, it can feel confusing and overwhelming. To make things simpler, we compared the Nest Sparrow to two other popular bed-in-a-box brands, Tuft & Needle and Casper.
Nest Bedding Vs. Tuft & Needle
The Original Tuft & Needle mattress doesn’t contain any springs, however, the company does sell hybrid mattresses. The Original model has a classic medium firm feel, just like the Nest Sparrow. Because it creates a balance of support and comfort, the Original Tuft & Needle works well for most back and side sleepers.
The Tuft & Needle mattress feels a bit more responsive than the Nest Sparrow. If you’re a fan of a slow-moving feel, we recommend opting for the Sparrow’s plush model.
Unlike Tuft & Needle, the Nest Sparrow has many firmness options available. You can even change out the top layer and adjust its overall feel.
Who Should Get The Original Tuft & Needle Mattress?
- People who prefer a responsive mattress
- Those who want to save money
Who Should Get The Nest Sparrow Mattress?

Nest Bedding Vs. Casper
The Original Casper mattress is available in all-foam and hybrid models. Both options feel slightly firmer than the Nest Sparrow, coming in at 7.5/10 on our scale.
Casper mattresses work especially well for people with back pain because they have a zoned support system. This means that they feel firmer toward the center and softer near the head and foot. This uneven firmness level helps people maintain the correct spinal alignment throughout the night.
The Nest Sparrow mattress doesn’t have a zoned support system, but it does have a reinforced edge. And because you can split the comfort layers on both sides of the mattress, it’s a great pick for couples.
These two mattresses have similar price points, but the Casper costs a little bit less. Ultimately, it boils down to what you want out of a mattress.
Who Should Get The Casper?
- People who want to save a little bit of money
- Those with back pain
Who Should Get The Nest Sparrow?
- Couples
- Those who want a mattress with a quilted pillow top
