Firmness and Feel Differences
Here at Mattress Clarity, we use a firmness scale that goes from one to 10, with 6.5/10 indicating medium-firm. The Saatva Classic comes in three different firmness levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. The Plush Soft model feels like a 6/10; the Luxury Firm model feels like a 7/10, and the Firm comes in at 8/10.
The Loom & Leaf mattress is available in two firmness levels: Relaxed Firm and Firm. The Relaxed Firm has a classic medium-firm feel, but if you need more support, opt for the Firm model.
Sleeping On the Saatva and Loom & Leaf Mattresses
Because both mattresses are available in many different firmness levels, they should work for different types of sleepers.
In general, side sleepers should opt for the Saatva Classic Plush Soft or Loom & Leaf Relaxed Firm mattress. Back sleepers will feel the most comfort and support on either the Saatva Luxury Firm or Loom & Leaf Relaxed Firm. Stomach sleepers will prefer the firm models of the Saatva or Loom & Leaf.
What Do The Saatva And Loom & Leaf Mattresses Feel Like?
The Saatva mattress has a classic innerspring feel. Sleepers will feel like they’re resting on top of the mattress rather than “inside” it. It’s easy to move around on top of this bed, thanks to the bouncy coils.
The Loom & Leaf mattress has a slow-moving memory foam feel. When you rest on it, you’ll feel like you’re gently sinking into the top comfort layer. This mattress offers a lot of body contouring, but it’s a little bit more difficult to move around on top of it.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb
Average weight sleepers should feel comfortable on the Saatva Luxury Firm mattress. This bed feels slightly firmer than average, so it provides plenty of lumbar support for back and stomach sleepers. Side sleepers who weigh closer to 130 lb, however, might prefer the pressure relief they’ll get from the Saatva Plush Soft model.
Folks who weigh between 130 and 230 lb will prefer the Loom & Leaf Relaxed Firm mattress. This bed has a classic medium-firm feel, which should support both back and side sleepers. Some lightweight stomach sleepers may get the right amount of hip support on the Relaxed Firm model, but stomach sleepers who weigh more than 150 lb will prefer the Firm model.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb
Heavyweight sleepers will want to get the Saatva Firm model. This mattress has strong coils at the bottom, which should provide the necessary support for heavier folks. Some heavyweight stomach sleepers might feel their hips sinking out of alignment on the Saatva, however, so they might prefer one of the best mattresses for heavy people.
People who weigh between 230 and 300 lb should opt for the Loom & Leaf Firm model. This option should work well for heavier back and side sleepers, but most stomach sleepers will need a more supportive mattress. Take a look at our list of the best mattresses for stomach sleepers for some ideas.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lb
On the Saatva Plush Soft, lightweight sleepers should feel comfortable in all three sleeping positions. People who weigh less than 130 lb won’t compress the comfort layers too much, so they don’t need to get a firmer model.
Lightweight sleepers will also feel comfortable on the Loom & Leaf Relaxed Firm mattress. This mattress should provide plenty of pressure relief for side sleepers and ample support for back and stomach sleepers.
Mattress Construction Differences
When it comes to construction, these two mattresses are quite different. Here’s what you’ll find inside each one:
Cover
Both mattresses have organic cotton covers that feel cool and breathable.
Comfort Layers
The Saatva Classic has a Euro pillow top, which means there’s a layer of foam tucked under the cover. This acts as the mattress’s main comfort layer.
The Loom & Leaf has three foam comfort layers. The first one, a 2” piece of gel-infused memory foam, helps dissipate body heat. The second comfort layer consists of Saatva’s proprietary Spinal Zone Gel foam, which helps sleepers maintain the correct spinal alignment throughout the night. Beneath that sits a 2” layer of high-density foam for additional body contouring.
Support Layer
In its support layer, Saatva has two sets of steel coils. At the bottom, you’ll find a layer of thick, high-grade coils. These are zoned to provide support where sleepers need it most. Above that sits a layer of microcoils, which provides even more body contouring and support.
The Loom & Leaf’s support layer is more straightforward – a thick layer of high-density polyfoam. This layer prevents sleepers from “bottoming out” and provides excellent lumbar support.
Mattress Height
The Saatva is available in two heights – 11.5″ and 14.5.″
The Loom & Leaf mattress is 12” tall.

Saatva And Loom & Leaf Performance Differences
Now that we know about each mattress’s construction, firmness, and feel, let’s examine their performance features.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
Both mattresses work well for hot sleepers, but we expect the Saatva Classic to sleep cooler than the Loom & Leaf. Because it’s made entirely out of foam, the Loom & Leaf has a tendency to trap body heat. Its gel infusions help promote breathability and airflow, but it’s no match to Saatva’s hybrid construction.
Motion Transfer
If you share a bed with a partner, you’ll want to make sure your bed isolates motion well. Nobody wants to wake up in the middle of night from their partner shifting sleeping positions!
Because the Saatva contains innersprings, it doesn’t isolate motion well. If you share a bed with a loved one, you may want to opt for the Loom & Leaf. We hardly noticed any motion transfer when we tested this memory foam mattress.
Edge Support
Both mattresses have great edge support, but the Saatva has a slight advantage over the Loom & Leaf. When we rested near the side of this mattress, the coils made us feel completely secure and stable.
Durability
All of Saatva’s mattresses are made with high-quality and long-lasting materials, but because the Saatva Classic contains strong coils, we think it will last a little bit longer than the Loom & Leaf. The Saatva Classic should last at least 10 years, while the Loom & Leaf will most likely last between eight and 10 years.
Off-Gassing
“Off-gassing” is a mattress industry term that refers to the chemical smell often emitted by bed-in-a-box mattresses. Because Saatva never compresses mattresses into boxes, customers don’t have to worry about any unpleasant odor. You can rest on your new Saatva or Loom & Leaf mattress right away.
Noise
During testing, neither mattress sounded noisy. It’s possible the Saatva Classic could begin to squeak as time goes on, but we don’t anticipate that becoming a major issue.
Sex
Sexual partners typically want mattresses that feel bouncy and responsive, so the Saatva Classic is the best choice for getting intimate. Couples might sink into the Loom & Leaf’s top comfort layers, and some folks might find it difficult to move around on top of it.
Company Policies
It’s always important to understand the company policies before buying a new mattress. Here’s what you can expect if you buy from Saatva.
Warranty Info
Both mattresses are covered by lifetime warranties.
Sleep Trial
Customers can enjoy a 365-night sleep trial period with both of these mattresses.
Return Policy
If you’re not a fan of your Saatva or Loom & Leaf mattress, you can return each one for a full refund – as long as it’s during the initial trial period. Important Note: Saatva charges a $99 transportation fee to cover the cost of mattress pickup.
FAQs
Before we wrap up, we’ll answer some of the most frequently asked questions about the Saatva and Loom & Leaf mattresses.
Which mattress is better, Saatva or Loom & Leaf?
Both mattresses are great, but it ultimately depends on what you’re looking for. The Saatva is great for folks who prefer bouncy and responsive innerspring mattresses. Fans of slow-moving memory foam beds should choose the Loom & Leaf.
How long will the Saatva and Loom & Leaf mattresses last?
Both mattresses will have a long lifespan, but we expect the Saatva Classic mattresses to last a bit longer than the Loom & Leaf. The Saatva mattress should last at least 10 years, and the Loom & Leaf should last between eight and 10 years.
Can you flip the Saatva or Loom & Leaf mattress?
Nope! Neither mattress is flippable. They’re both designed with support layers at the bottom and comfort layers on top. If you flipped them, the beds wouldn't feel right.
