Purple Harmony Pillow Firmness and Feel

It’s especially important to learn about a pillow’s firmness level and feel — especially when shopping online. Keep reading to learn whether this pillow will meet your sleep needs.

How Firm Is the Purple Harmony Pillow?

Overall, the pillow feels medium firm. On the outside, you’ll find a soft and squishy layer of the Purple grid. Underneath sits a thick piece of Talalay Latex foam. These two elements combine to give the pillow a nice balance of comfort and support.

Sleeping On the Purple Harmony Pillow

When resting on a pillow, you want to ensure your body stays in a neutral alignment. This means that, when you’re resting on your side, your ears align with your shoulders. When you’re relaxing on your back or stomach, your chin should line up with your sternum.

Purple Harmony back sleeping

The Purple Harmony pillow comes in three loft sizes: low, medium, and tall. Thanks to its numerous options, this pillow will work well for a variety of different body types and sleeping positions.

What Does the Purple Harmony Pillow Feel Like?

Because it has a layer of the Purple grid in the cover, the Harmony pillow feels completely unique. When you apply pressure on the grid, the material immediately snaps back into place. The Talalay latex foam core also feels quite responsive. And because it’s so thick, side sleepers should have no issue keeping their ears in line with their shoulders.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230lbs

If you’re an average weight side sleeper, you’ll want to opt for the mid loft pillow. This pillow stands at 6.5” tall, so it creates the proper support for most side sleepers in this category.

Average weight back sleepers will also appreciate the mid loft pillow. Because the pillow has a medium firm feel, it allows the head to sink slightly into the material. This option should create both comfort and support for back sleepers.

Stomach sleepers, however, will want to choose the low loft pillow. In this sleeping position, you want to ensure your neck doesn’t crane into an unnatural position. The low loft pillow is only 5.5” tall, so it will best promote a neutral alignment.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs

The Purple Harmony is especially durable, so it works well for larger-framed people. Heavier side sleepers will likely feel the most supported on the high loft pillow. Larger back sleepers may also like the tallest option.

Heavier stomach sleepers will want to get the low loft model. Shorter pillows help keep stomach sleepers’ necks in the correct position all night long.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs

No matter their sleeping position, lightweight people will likely prefer the low loft pillow. Its 5.5” height best supports back, side, and stomach sleepers.

Purple Harmony Pillow Construction

The Purple Harmony is unlike any other pillow out there. To fully understand how it works, we’ll need to look closely at each layer.

Cover

On the outside, the Purple Harmony Pillow has a moisture-wicking breeze mesh cover. Made with nylon and spandex, the cover feels breathable and stretchy. And best of all, it’s machine washable!

Purple Harmony construction

Inside the cover, you’ll find a thin version of Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer grid. The gel-like material has 2,000 open-air channels, and it easily adapts to your head.

Core

The core is made from Talalay latex foam. Unlike memory foam, latex allows for plenty of airflow. It won’t trap heat like many pillows do! And because it’s a high-quality material, it should last for many years.

Weight

Standard size pillows weigh 4.2lbs, and the King size pillow weighs 6lbs.

Height/Loft

Loft, also known as the pillow’s height, is especially important for determining whether a pillow will help you reach a neutral alignment. The Purple Harmony comes in three different loft sizes:

Low: 5.5”
Medium: 6.5”
Tall: 7.5”

Purple Harmony Pillow Performance

Will the pillow last a long time? How will it keep you cool? We’ll answer these questions and more below.

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Some pillows tend to trap heat, causing sleepers to wake up feeling stuffy and clammy. However, you won’t run into that problem when you rest on the Purple Harmony.

Thanks to its breeze mesh cover, the Purple Harmony allows room for plenty of airflow. To make things even cooler, it features a thin layer of the Purple grid, a feature you won’t find in other non-Purple cooling pillow options. This material has 2,000 open-air channels, which creates excellent breathability. Plus, the Talalay latex core has plenty of air holes throughout, so it won’t trap body heat like memory foam often does.

Off-Gassing

When you unbox a new mattress, you’ll occasionally notice a slight chemical smell. We call this “off-gassing,” and it’s totally normal.

The Purple Harmony Pillow, however, doesn’t have an off-gassing period. You don’t need to wait for it to air out and expand — you can rest on it right away.

Care Instructions

The breeze mesh cover is completely machine washable. Just wash on the cold cycle and lay flat to dry. If you happen to get the Talalay latex core dirty, you can spot clean it with soap and warm water.

Allergies

Because the pillow features hypoallergenic Talalay latex, it is not likely to trigger latex allergies. This material is also naturally resistant to dust mites, bed bugs, and other allergens.

Company Policies

Before you purchase this unique pillow, make sure you understand Purple’s company policies. Here’s a quick overview of their warranty, sleep trial period, and return policy.

Warranty Info

Purple offers a 1-year warranty on their pillows.

Sleep Trial

The pillow has a 100-night sleep trial period.

Return Policy

If you aren’t pleased with your purchase during the initial trial period, you can return it for a full refund.

Common Purple Harmony Pillow Complaints

This pillow has hundreds of positive reviews on Amazon, but a few customers weren’t satisfied with their purchases. Some people complained about the price. Yes, this pillow costs more than others on the market, but it’s also quite durable. In the long run, we think it’s a smart investment.

Other people complained about the pillow’s height. Some people found it too tall, while others said it was too short. Luckily, this pillow comes in three loft sizes, and the company offers a 100-night sleep trial period. If you discover the pillow’s loft doesn’t feel comfortable, you can easily exchange it and get a different size.

How Does The Purple Harmony Pillow Compare to Other Pillows?

We know how difficult shopping for bedding products can be. With so many options, how can you tell which one will work best? To make things clearer, we’ll compare the Purple Harmony Pillow to other popular products on the market.

Purple Harmony Pillow vs. the Original Purple Pillow

Both pillows feature Purple’s hex technology, but in different amounts. The Original Purple Pillow has three inches of this squishy and supportive material, while the Purple Harmony only has a thin layer of it in the cover. Because of this, the Original pillow feels much firmer than the Harmony. If you’re a larger-framed side sleeper, the Original will work quite well for you.

Purple Pillow construction

The Original Pillow also comes with two boosters, so you can easily make it taller if you wish. The Purple Harmony pillow comes in three loft sizes, and you can easily exchange one for the other, but you won’t be able to adjust its height on the spot.

The Purple Harmony feels medium firm, making it a better choice for smaller back and side sleepers. However, the Harmony costs more than the Original, so it may not work for those who are on a budget.

Who Should Get the Purple Harmony

  • People who want a medium firm pillow
  • Back sleepers
  • People who prefer a pillow that feels more traditional

Who Should Get the Original Purple Pillow

  • Those who want a firm pillow
  • Larger side sleepers
  • People who want to rest on a thick piece of Purple’s hyper-elastic polymer grid.

Read our Original Purple Pillow review.

Purple Harmony vs. Casper Original Pillow

The Purple Harmony and Casper Original Pillow have completely different constructions. The Casper pillow has an unusual pillow-within-a-pillow design. The outer pillowcase is made from 100% cotton, and it has a layer of polyester microfiber fill sewn inside. Beneath this, you’ll find a second pillow stuffed with the same material. It’s available in a low and mid loft. The smaller option works particularly well for stomach sleepers.

Casper Original pillow construction

The Purple Harmony pillow has a Talalay latex core, so it feels much more responsive than the Casper. While they’re both considered cooling pillows, the Purple Harmony does a better job of regulating temperature. This pillow also feels slightly more supportive, so it’s a better choice for those who frequently suffer from neck pain.

The Casper pillow costs significantly less than the Purple Harmony, however, so it may work better for some people.

Who Should Get the Purple Harmony Pillow

  • People who want a more supportive pillow
  • Those who prefer a responsive pillow
  • Hot sleepers

Who Should Get the Casper Pillow

  • Those who prefer a fluffier pillow
  • People who want to save money
  • Stomach sleepers
