Firmness and feel are two important categories when picking a new pillow. Let’s talk about how the Plushbeds pillow feels.
How Firm is Plushbeds Goose Down Pillow?
Plushbeds offers the goose down pillow in two firmness options: medium and firm. For this review, I received the medium option. And for a down feather pillow, I’d say this was more medium than other down pillows I’ve encountered, but it still felt fairly soft and plush. This is typical for a down pillow.
Overall, you’re not going to bottom out of this pillow like you could a softer down pillow.

Sleeping on the Plushbeds Goose Down Pillow
Personally, I prefer more medium to firm memory foam pillows, so using down pillows is always a different experience for me. I tested the medium-firm option, and as a side sleeper, this pillow felt fairly comfortable. But ultimately, as a heavier person, I think I would need the firm option for side sleeping, as I found my head sinking too far into the pillow.

Moving to my back, I felt very comfortable using this pillow. I was able to sink into the cushiony feel of the down, but I still felt some support. This pillow did a good job of keeping my head and neck in a neutral alignment.
Moving over to my stomach, I felt really comfortable. Down pillows deflate when you use them, and you can get them low and flat, which is ideal for stomach sleepers. Stomach sleepers will want to stick with the medium option, as the firm pillow might not deflate as much. But overall, this is a very comfortable pillow to use for stomach sleeping.
30-60 Min Nap
When it came time to nap, I decided to try it out with my natural sleeping position: my side. While I still think I needed the firm option, the medium-firm did a decent job of offering support for a quick nap. But over time, I’d be worried about this pillow falling too flat to offer good neck support while sleeping on my side.
I found myself switching to my stomach, which felt much more comfortable. And though down can be an insulator, the organic cotton cover on the outside felt soft, smooth, and cool. Cotton is very breathable, so I didn’t find myself overheating while napping with this pillow.
What does the Plushbeds Goose Down Pillow Feel Like?
Because this pillow features different firmness levels, each version may feel differently. For the medium-firm option I had, the goose feathers made it feel very plush, cushiony, and soft.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230lb
Tthe medium-firm option should work well for all sleeping positions if you’re an average weight person. I’d recommend this pillow mostly for back and stomach sleepers. This is because down can deflate, and back and stomach sleepers should be able to compress the pillow enough to find comfort, but still get enough support.
If you’re a side sleeper with broad shoulders, the firm option would be the better choice. However, if you’re not convinced a down pillow can offer enough support for side sleeping, going with a firm memory foam or latex pillow would be a better option.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lb
Heavyweight side and back sleepers should consider getting the firm option to provide support and keep you from bottoming out while you sleep. The medium-firm option will work best for heavier stomach sleepers because they’ll be able to compress the pillow enough to get it low and flat.
However, this isn’t a pillow I would immediately recommend to my fellow heavyweight sleepers out there. Look at our list of the best firm pillows for more supportive options.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lb
Lightweight sleepers of all three sleeping positions will find everything they need in the medium-firm version. You won’t compress the down as much as heavier bodied individuals will, so the Plushbeds Goose Down Pillow should offer good comfort and support.

As the name suggests, Plushbeds uses a high-quality, responsibly sourced European white goose down fill for this pillow. The down has been Responsible Down Standard (RDS) certified, meaning that the down is sourced in a responsible and ethical manner.
