Sleeping Hot or Cold
When I tested out the Brooklinen Luxe Core sheet set, I was surprised at how thick and soft the top sheet felt. Sometimes sateen cotton sheets with high thread counts can trap heat. This set features a thread count of 480, which is about the middle of the road for sateen sheets.
As a hot sleeper, I still felt comfortable and the sheets felt fairly breathable, which is something cotton is known for. However, I felt that the top sheet was all I needed. I tend to layer my sheets, but if I were to put more on top, I can see overheating being an issue.
But I think because of that, people who get cold fairly quickly should still find a good amount of warmth from these sheets, too.
Care Instructions
The Luxe core set, like all Brooklinen sheets, is machine washable! Here’s what Brooklinen recommends:
Wash in a cold water cycle with like colors and the detergent of choice. From there, you can tumble dry on low heat. Brooklinen does mention you can warm iron as needed if you notice the sheets are wrinkly.

To start, both sheets are made with different materials. The Luxe Core set is made with 100% long-staple cotton, while the Linen Core set is made with 100% European flax. These two materials produce different feels.
Weaved in the sateen style, the Luxe Core set feels buttery smooth and very soft. The flax that goes into linens tends to feel textured. It won’t feel itchy and scratchy, but it won’t feel very smooth to the touch.
the Linen Core set is the better option for hot sleepers, especially if you like to layer up with thin layers like I do. Flax is very breathable and moisture-wicking which is a great combo for hot sleepers. linens also have more opportunity for airflow.

Bamboo is another popular material to use in sheets. Layla’s bamboo sheets are a high quality set to compare!
The Brooklinen Luxe Core set is made from cotton, while the Layla sheets are made from bamboo viscose. These two sets will feel different. While the sateen weave makes the cotton sheets feel soft, cotton can feel more crisp than bamboo. Bamboo tends to feel soft and satin like.
The Layla bamboo sheets are going to be a better option for hot sleepers. These sheets felt cool to the touch right out of the box, and they are thinner than the Luxe Core set. Brooklinen’s sheets feel soft and thick, and will do a better job of retaining heat if you sleep cold.
