This pillow also holds its shape well. The filling did not rearrange itself inside the pillow while I slept on it, so the Coop pillow should retain its firmness after use.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230lb
The Coop Original’s adjustability means it is well suited for a variety of sleep positions. In particular, average weight side sleepers will appreciate the customizable loft of the Original Pillow.
Average weight stomach sleepers will have to remove quite a bit of foam to achieve a comfortable loft with this pillow. Even then, the memory foam filling may be too firm for the average stomach sleeper. The Original Pillow is best for average weight side and back sleepers.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lb
The memory-foam-and-microfiber blend should provide great support to heavyweight sleepers. The additional ½ pound of filling that comes with the Original Pillow means this pillow can be filled to accommodate side sleepers with larger frames.
Heavier back sleepers will compress the foam more, so they likely won’t need to take out any of the fill. For side sleepers with broad shoulders, you’ll want to keep the pillow as tall as possible to keep your head and neck in a neutral position.
Heavyweight sleepers may have to fluff this pillow more often to help the pillow maintain its shape.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lb
In general, lightweight sleepers tend to compress the pillow less than heavier sleepers. A medium-firm pillow like the Coop Original will tend to be more comfortable for lightweight side sleepers who need more loft and support than back or stomach sleepers. I do see lightweight sleepers needing to remove some of the fill to find a comfortable loft, though.
Lightweight stomach sleepers will need to take out a considerable amount of fill to find a comfortable loft. Overall, this isn’t the first choice for stomach sleepers.

The Coop Sleep Goods Original Adjustable Loft Pillow comes with an ultra-breathable fabric cover comprised of 60% polyester and 40% bamboo-derived viscose rayon. The natural moisture-wicking and cooling properties of bamboo will help keep the pillow cover cool and sweat-free.
The cover is removable and machine washable. There is also a 100% polyester inner liner inside the fabric cover that contains the shredded foam filling.
Core
The Coop Original’s inner pillow features a blend of memory foam and microfiber filling. This CertiPUR-US certified blend is produced solely for Coop Sleep Goods, meaning you won’t find this particular combination of materials anywhere else. The filling itself can be removed to suit the individual sleeper’s height and firmness preferences.
The Original comes with an additional ½ pound of fill for those who want even more loft to their Coop pillow.
One drawback to the Coop Original’s adjustability is managing and storing the extra filling. While the additional filling comes in a resealable bag, Coop Sleep Goods does not provide storage for extra foam taken out of the pillow. If you need to take out a lot of foam to find a comfortable loft, adjusting the Original pillow can get messy quick.
I’m a side sleeper and prefer a more lofted pillow than the typical back or stomach sleeper. I still needed to remove five or six handfuls of foam before I found a comfortable volume for myself. Back and stomach sleepers may find themselves with even more extra foam to deal with.
With all that said, the comfort of the Adjustable Pillow made the potential mess well worth it. Overall, the shredded foam core displays a thoughtful design and provides great comfort.

Sleeping Hot or Cold
Because it is a relatively dense material, memory foam tends to trap heat. In the case of the Coop Sleep Goods Original Pillow, the shredded memory foam design and blended bamboo cover promote breathability while maintaining that classic memory foam feel.
That being said, this isn’t the coolest pillow on the market. If you’re worried about overheating, look for a pillow designed specifically for cooling.

Off-Gassing
The pillow comes vacuum sealed in plastic to save on shipping cost and size. Once the package has been opened, the pillow will need time to expand to its full size.
Customers have two options: let the pillow expand to its intended size on its own or toss the whole pillow in the dryer on a low heat for about 10 minutes. When I got the Original pillow, I opted to let the pillow do its thing, and within an hour it had grown to one of the fullest pillows I’ve ever seen.
Because the pillow comes compressed, it may have a slight chemical smell when it first arrives. Removing the outer cover and allowing this pillow to air out in sunlight should allow this smell to dissipate. Tumbling on low in the dryer with a dryer sheet should also remove off-gassing smells. Overall, the smell should fade within 24 hours.
Care Instructions
Both the cover and the pillow are fully machine washable. Coop Sleep Goods recommends washing the inner pillow about once a year, although the cover can be washed much more frequently. The inner pillow should be washed in cold water on a delicate cycle, then tumble dried on low.
If you find your pillow is starting to feel a little flat, fluffing it in the dryer should reinvigorate the foam and return the pillow to its full volume.
