Firmness and Feel Differences
Mattress Clarity’s firmness scale ranges from 1 to 10, with 6.5/10 indicating the industry standard of medium-firm. The Saatva Classic comes in three different firmness levels: Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, and Firm. The Plush Soft model feels like a 6/10; the Luxury Firm model comes in at 7/10, and the Firm feels like an 8/10.
The Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress feels firmer than average, coming in at 7.5/10. It’s a nice middle ground between the Saatva Classic’s two firmest models.
Sleeping On the Saatva and Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattresses
Because the Saatva Classic is available in more firmness levels, it works for a wide variety of people. We recommend the Plush Soft model for side sleepers and the Relaxed Firm for folks who rest on both their backs and sides. Stomach sleepers should opt for the Classic Firm model because that will prevent their hips from sinking out of alignment.
The Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress works well for most back and stomach sleepers. Latex foam feels firmer than traditional memory foam, so it offers plenty of lumbar support in those sleeping positions.
What Do The Saatva and Saatva Latex Hybrid Mattresses Feel Like?
Thanks to its plush Euro pillow-top and innerspring support system, the Saatva mattress has a classic, bouncy feel.
The Saatva Latex Hybrid has a similar feel, but its latex comfort layer makes it feel even more responsive than the classic Saatva. When you press your hand into the top layer, you’ll see the foam immediately snap back into place.
Both mattresses contain springs, so sleepers should feel like they’re resting on top of the mattress rather than “inside” it. Sleepers shouldn’t find it difficult to move around on top of these mattresses.
Average-Weight Sleepers: 130 lb–230 lb
The Saatva Classic mattress is a great fit for average-weight sleepers. People in this weight range will most likely prefer the Luxury Firm model, especially if they rest on their backs or sides. Stomach sleepers may want to opt for the Firm model because this will provide the most hip support.
People who weigh between 200 and 230 lb should feel a great balance of comfort and support on the Saatva Latex Hybrid. Folks who weigh less than 200 lb will most likely find this mattress feels too firm while back and side-sleeping, though it could work for lighter stomach sleepers.
Heavyweight Sleepers: Over 230 lb
People who weigh between 230 and 300 lb should opt for the Saatva Firm model. This mattress will offer the lumbar support and pressure relief that heavy people need, especially while back-sleeping. Those who weigh more than 300 lb may need a mattress specifically designed for heavy people.
Most heavyweight people will find the Saatva Latex Hybrid as a great match. The firm feel and responsive latex helps heavy people maintain the correct spinal alignment while back and side-sleeping. Stomach sleepers who weigh closer to 230 lb will likely get the hip support they need, but anyone heavier than that might develop some lower back pain over time.
Lightweight Sleepers: Under 130 lb
We recommend the Saatva Classic Plush Soft model for lightweight sleepers. On this bed, smaller people should feel comfortable in all three sleeping positions.
The Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress could work well for lightweight stomach sleepers, but it’s too firm for back and side sleeping. Smaller people won’t compress the latex comfort layer too much, so they won’t get the pressure relief they need.
Mattress Construction Differences
When it comes to construction, these two mattresses aren’t too different. Here’s what you’ll find inside each one:
Cover
Both mattresses have organic cotton covers that promote airflow and breathability. They each have plush pillow tops that feel especially luxurious.
Comfort Layers
The Saatva Classic’s main comfort layer is its Euro pillow top, which is a layer of foam tucked under the cover. The cover has zoned quilting, which provides additional support to the center third of the mattress. This helps sleepers maintain the correct spinal alignment, and it’s great for folks with back pain.
Beneath the cover of the Saatva Latex Hybrid sits a layer of GOTS-certified New Zealand wool. This material naturally wicks away moisture and helps sleepers stay cool at night. Beneath this, you’ll find a 3” layer of five-zone natural latex foam. Because it’s zoned, sleepers will get lumbar support where they need it most. Latex is also naturally breathable and responsive — another great perk for hot sleepers!
Support Layer
For support, the Saatva Classic has two sets of steel coils. The bottom layer is made out of thick, high-grade coils which are zoned to provide support where sleepers need it most. Above that, you’ll find a layer of microcoils. These provide even more body contouring and support.
The Saatva Latex Hybrid’s support layer consists of a pocketed coil unit with several different firmness zones. This offers plenty of lumbar support and helps minimize motion transfer! Plus, coils create room for airflow, so this mattress shouldn’t sleep hot whatsoever.
Mattress Height
The Saatva is available in two heights – 11.5″ and 14.5.″
The Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress is 13” tall.

Saatva and Saatva Latex Hybrid Performance Differences
That’s not all! Keep reading to learn about each bed’s performance features. We’ll go over their cooling features, motion isolation, edge support, and more.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
Both mattresses should be great picks for hot sleepers because their coils create room for airflow. However, if you’re an especially hot sleeper, we recommend the Saatva Latex Hybrid. Instead of foam, which can trap body heat, this mattress features latex foam. This material is much more breathable and responsive.
Motion Transfer
It’s especially important to examine your mattress’s motion isolation if you share a bed with a partner. If your mattress doesn’t isolate motion well, you might wake up when your partner shifts sleeping positions in the night.
Both mattresses contain innerspring, so they don’t isolate motion as well as all-foam beds. The Saatva Classic performs slightly better, thanks to its foam comfort layer. The Latex Hybrid feels a bit bouncier, so you might notice your partner’s movements a bit more. Need more ideas? Check out our list of the best mattresses for couples.
Edge Support
Both mattresses have excellent edge support. When you sit or rest near the side of either bed, you should feel stable and secure.
Durability
Because Saatva uses only high-quality and long-lasting materials, both mattresses should last at least 10 years. The Saatva Latex Hybrid may last even longer than that because latex is especially durable.
Off-Gassing
“Off-gassing” is another word to describe the chemical smell mattresses often emit after they’re unboxed. But Saatva never compresses its beds into cardboard boxes, so you won’t have to worry about any unusual odor. You can rest on your new mattress right away!
Noise
During testing, neither mattress created any sound. They may start to squeak as time goes on, but we don’t anticipate that becoming a big problem.
Sex
Sexual partners typically want mattresses that feel bouncy and responsive, so both beds fit the bill. The Saatva Latex Hybrid feels slightly more responsive, however, so we’ll give the win to this model.
