WinkBeds Plus vs. Helix Plus Overview

If someone likes some plush cushion on top of their mattress, the WinkBeds Plus is their best bet. It has a thick pillow-top that has a soft, plush feel. I felt very nice lying on top of this mattress. This is the firmer of the two mattresses, so it offers better support for when people are lying on their back and stomach. On my back, my hips sunk in just a bit, but the pillow-top pressed into my lumbar area so that my back didn’t collapse. On my stomach, my hips didn’t sink in too far.

Between these two mattresses, the WinkBeds Plus incorporates higher-density foams. It should stand up to wear and tear better than the PLUS. It should have a longer life and could be a good long-term investment.

Overall, the Helix PLUS has a balanced hybrid feel, but there is some soft memory foam on top. If someone likes that slow-sinking feeling on their mattress, the Helix PLUS is the better choice. The Helix PLUS is the softer of these two mattresses. If someone prefers a little less firmness, this should be the mattress to choose.

This mattress is made for larger people and, out of the two, it is the softer option. This means it offers better pressure relief, so people should feel less firmness on their shoulders and hips while lying on their side. Note that if someone is larger than 300 pounds, they may press right through this mattress and feel that the mattress is firmer.

WinkBeds Plus vs. Helix Plus Video Review

Take these two mattresses in this WinkBeds Plus vs Helix Plus video review.

Key Similarities

  • Both mattresses are made for heavier people and should both be durable mattresses that fight sagging.
  • They are both hybrid mattresses and have similar constructions that feature steel coils and premium comfort foams.

Key Differences

  • The WinkBeds Plus is taller than the Helix PLUS and is also firmer and more supportive.
  • The WinkBeds Plus has a pillow-top feel, while the Helix PLUS has more of a soft, memory foam feel on top.

WinkBeds Plus Construction

  • The WinkBeds Plus is 15″ tall and features four separate layers of coils and foam.
  • The cover is soft and quilted with 2″ of a high-density Body Impression Proof Foam. It also contains Tencel fabric, which is produced using recyclable solvents and creates a silky feel.
  • The first layer is 2.5″ of an open-celled, seven-zoned latex support layer, which provides more support under the hips where it is needed the most.
  • Next, there are 7.5″ of a three-zone, TexasQUAD individually wrapped coil support system, which is highly supportive, breathable, and durable.
  • Finally, the base layer is 3″ of a high-density polyfoam for the support coils to rest on.

Helix PLUS Construction

  • The Helix PLUS is 11.25” tall.
  • You can choose between a Tencel cover and GlacioTex™ Cooling Pillow Top.
  • First, there is a layer of Helix Responsive Foam that offers resiliency, comfort and support.
  • Then, there is a layer of Helix Dynamic Foam, which is a latex-foam hybrid that provides bounce and resilience.
  • Next, there are Titan Core steel coils, which are highly supportive, breathable, and durable.
  • Finally, there is 1” of a Dura Dense foam that the support coils can rest on.

Construction Differences/Other Notes

  • The covers are fairly different in feel and what they are trying to accomplish. The WinkBeds Plus has a tufted cover that is quilted together with polyfoam. The Helix PLUS has two cover options, which are both breathable and cooling.
  • The WinkBeds Plus has a zoned support layer, while the Helix PLUS does not. This layer is designed to give people support under key areas (such as the hips) while keeping the rest of the mattress soft and pressure-relieving.
  • Both mattresses have taller coils that should give extra support for heavier people. They have more room to compress and are also higher-grade to handle heavier weights.
  • The WinkBeds Plus should be the more durable mattress, because it features higher-density foams and has a foam encasement.
  • Both mattresses should help people sleep cool throughout the night. The coils allow for some good airflow, and the covers could help dissipate heat as well.

Firmness/Feel Differences

The WinkBeds Plus felt like a 7.5/10 for firmness, and the Helix PLUS felt like a 7/10. They are both a bit firmer than average, but the WinkBeds Plus is just a little firmer overall.

I am 230 lb, so lighter people may think these mattresses are firmer than I did. Heavier people may find these mattresses to be softer, as they’re likely to activate the top layers more than I did.

Here’s how it felt on the WinkBeds Plus:

  • I felt very nice when I was sleeping on my back. My hips sunk into the pillow-top just the right amount, and I felt supported overall. The polyfoam in the pillow-top pressed up into the lumbar and offered support.
  • On my side, I felt some pressure on the shoulders and hips. The pillow-top relieved some pressure, but not enough for me to sleep comfortably.
  • On my stomach, I felt very good support and also felt like my spine was in good alignment.

This was my experience on the Helix PLUS:

  • I felt good support when I was on my back. However, I didn’t feel as much support as I did on the WinkBeds Plus.
  • On my side, I felt better pressure relief on the PLUS. I did feel some firmness on my shoulders and hips, but not as much as I felt on the WinkBeds Plus.
  • On my stomach, I felt well supported. That being said, I felt slightly better support while stomach sleeping on the WinkBeds Plus.

In terms of feel, the WinkBeds Plus has a soft, pillow-top feel over a hybrid feel. The Helix PLUS has more of a classic memory foam feel over a hybrid feel. Both the WinkBeds Plus and Helix PLUS have a bit of bounce, and I didn’t have trouble moving around on either mattress.

See more of what I thought of the WinkBeds Plus’s pillow-top in the video below.

Now, people can see what I thought of the memory foam feel on the Helix PLUS in the video below.

Motion Transfer Differences

If someone is a larger person like me, they also want to think about how much their motion or their partner’s motion will transfer across the mattress. After testing out both mattresses, I feel that neither handled motion transfer particularly well, perhaps because of the steel coils.

However, between the two, the Helix PLUS did perform a bit better. It has a softer foam in its top layer, which does a better job of absorbing movement. Pillow-tops, such as the one found on the WinkBeds Plus, generally aren’t the best at handling motion.

People can see how the WinkBeds Plus performed in the video below.

Compare this to how the Helix PLUS cut down on motion transfer with the video below.

Edge Support Differences

Another thing to consider if someone is larger or sleep with a partner is edge support. People definitely want to know how much of the surface area of their mattress they can utilize. Basically, edge support reflects how close people can get to the edge of the mattress without feeling like they are falling off.

Between these two mattresses, the WinkBeds Plus features better edge support, because it is firmer and has a foam encasement. Sitting down on the edge, I felt very secure. When I was lying down, I felt less like I was going to roll off compared to when I laid on the Helix PLUS.

People can see the edge support differences in the photos below.

Overall

While both these mattresses have a lot to offer heavier sleepers, they are quite different in many ways.

If someone likes a pillow-top feel and/or sleeps on their stomach, the WinkBeds Plus is probably ideal. If someone likes memory foam and is a heavier side sleeper, the Helix PLUS should be a good choice.
