Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid vs. Casper Overview
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is the Brooklyn Bedding brand’s flagship mattress. This hybrid bed layers responsive foam over individually pocketed coils, is made in the USA, and comes in three firmnesses (Soft, Medium, and Firm). For this comparison, we’re looking at the Medium model.
The original Casper is an all-foam mattress with a unique Zoned Support system. The zoning makes the mattress firmer near the center of the bed (for extra spinal support) and softer near the head and foot (for added pressure relief). These beds will appeal to different types of sleepers; we’ve put together a quick overview below.

Brooklyn Bedding vs. Casper: Key Differences
As you might guess, these beds have more differences than commonalities. Here’s a quick rundown.
- The Brooklyn Bedding Signature is a hybrid mattress, while the Casper model in question is all-foam
- They feature different materials in their comfort layers (The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid uses proprietary TitanFlex foam; the Casper uses perforated AirScape foam)
- The Casper features a Zoned Support system, while the Signature Hybrid is not zoned
- The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid comes in three firmness options, while the Casper only comes in one firmness
- The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid costs a bit less than the original Casper
Firmness and Feel Differences (Including Firmness Rating)
An easy way to vet various mattresses is to consider their firmness and feel. These factors will majorly influence whether a given mattress is a solid fit for your preferred sleep position(s) and other sleep needs. So let’s kick off the in-depth portion of this comparison with a close look at the firmness and feel of both the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid and the original all-foam Casper.
How Firm Are the Brooklyn Bedding and Casper Mattresses?
We ranked the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid’s Medium model around 6.5/10 on the firmness scale. The industry standard for average firmness is 6.5/10, so this suggests the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is right around medium-firm. Meanwhile, we ranked the Casper around 7/10—or just a touch firmer-than-average.
Of course, it’s worth noting that firmness is slightly subjective. Depending on your body weight and personal preferences, you might find these beds to be a touch firmer or softer than our assessment.
Sleeping on the Brooklyn Bedding and Casper Mattresses
We spent time sleeping on both mattresses. Read on to see how we felt in each sleeping position.
Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid
We enjoyed a pleasant balance of comfort and support while back sleeping on the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid. Our hips and spine stayed well aligned, and we enjoyed some pressure relief.
We also enjoyed plenty of pressure relief while side sleeping on the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid. Our hip and shoulder didn’t feel jammed up.
We experienced good overall support while stomach sleeping on this mattress. That said, heavier-weight sleepers might require some additional support.
Casper
We felt great while back sleeping on the Casper. Our hips sank in just a touch for some pressure relief, but we still felt like we were getting enough spinal support. And we enjoyed especially great lumbar support thanks to the Casper’s zoning. It really is one of the best mattresses for back sleepers.
We felt okay but not great while side sleeping on the Casper. We did experience some pressure relief, but people who spend all night in this position might start to feel jammed up around the shoulder and hip. If you’re lighter-weight, then you should experience better pressure relief.
We enjoyed decent spinal support while stomach sleeping on the Casper. However, folks who spend all night in this position will probably want to seek out a firmer mattress for stomach sleepers.
What Do the Brooklyn Bedding and Casper Mattresses Feel Like?
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid has a plush innerspring feel. While the foam on top does offer just a touch of body contouring, the bounciness from the coils makes it easy to move around on this bed.
The Casper has a very bouncy, responsive foam feel. Even though it’s all-foam, it’s very easy to change positions and move around on this mattress.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid could be a great match for average-weight back sleepers, who should enjoy a balance of comfort and support. It could also be a decent match for average-weight side sleepers, who should obtain adequate pressure relief around the shoulder and hip. While the Signature Hybrid offers decent spinal support to stomach sleepers, folks who spend all night in this position might want to consider the Casper or the Firm model of the Signature Hybrid.
The Casper is also a great match for average-weight back sleepers thanks to its combination of pressure relief and lumbar support. Average-weight side sleepers will probably prefer the softer Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid, though the Casper isn’t a bad match either. The Casper should offer adequate spinal support for average-weight stomach sleepers.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid should offer decent spinal support to heavyweight back sleepers who weigh less than 300 pounds. Folks who weigh more than that will want to look for a more supportive mattress overall, such as the Brooklyn Bedding Titan, which is made for heavy people. The Signature Hybrid could feel too firm for heavyweight side sleepers, who are likely to press through the softer comfort layer into the firmer support layers underneath. The Signature Hybrid is almost certainly not supportive enough for heavyweight stomach sleepers.
Because it’s all-foam, the Casper is probably not supportive enough for heavyweight back sleepers, who could prefer the support from the Signature Hybrid’s coils or might feel better on a more supportive mattress for heavy people. As with the Signature Hybrid, the Casper will probably feel too firm for heavyweight side sleepers. Heavyweight stomach sleepers weighing less than 300 pounds might obtain adequate spinal support on the Casper; folks who weigh more than that will probably require a more supportive mattress.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs
Lightweight back sleepers should enjoy a blend of pressure relief and spinal support on the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid. Lightweight side sleepers should enjoy plenty of pressure relief on this mattress. And lightweight stomach sleepers should enjoy adequate spinal support on the Signature Hybrid, though they might prefer the slightly firmer Casper.
The Casper offers great lumbar support and a touch of pressure relief to lightweight back sleepers. It could be a decent match for lightweight side sleepers, although folks who like a softer feel will probably prefer the Signature Hybrid. The Casper should be a supportive match for lightweight stomach sleepers.
Mattress Construction Differences
Now that you have a sense of what it feels like to lie on top of the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid and the Casper, let’s up the ante by taking a look inside these beds! We’ll analyze each layer of these beds’ constructions and share how different materials affect performance and feel.
Cover
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid features a soft cover that’s quilted with foam for a touch of pressure relief right off the bat.
The Casper has a very breathable cover that’s partially made from recycled bottles.
Comfort Layers
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid’s main comfort layer is made from 1.5” of TitanFlex foam, which is bouncy, responsive, and a touch pressure-relieving. Below that, there’s a 1.5” layer of Energex foam, a higher-density foam that acts as a transition layer between the TitanFlex foam above and the support coils beneath. (Again, note that we’re talking about the Medium version; the Soft and Firm versions of this mattress have slightly different constructions.)
The Casper’s primary comfort layer is composed of the brand’s proprietary AirScape foam, which is perforated to allow for some airflow through the top layers of the mattress. This material is quite plush but also surprisingly responsive. Underneath the Airscape foam is one of the main distinguishing features of the Casper: the Zoned Support layer, which is made from memory foam.
The center of this layer is firmer than the head and foot, which helps create a surface that’s more supportive for back and stomach sleeping and more pressure-relieving for side sleeping.
Support Layers
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid’s base layer is made from 6” of the brand’s individually-wrapped Ascension coils. These coils lend support to the mattress overall. There’s also an extra layer of coils around the bed’s perimeter to help strengthen its edge support.
The Casper’s base layer is made from a durable polyfoam that creates structure and support for the mattress as a whole.
Mattress Height
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is 12” tall, while the Casper is just a touch shorter at 11”.

Brooklyn Bedding vs. Casper Performance Differences
You’ve made it this far into this comparison, which means you now know a lot about the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid and the Casper! But there are still a few important factors left to consider. We put both of these beds through a barrage of tests with regard to temperature regulation, motion transfer, edge support, and more. Let’s see how they stacked up!
See how these mattresses compare to competition by checking out our other Brooklyn Bedding and Casper comparisons like Brooklyn Bedding vs Leesa and Casper vs Tuft & Needle.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid takes the win here thanks to its coils, which allow for plenty of airflow through the center of the mattress. If you’d prefer the Casper but are worried about breathability, consider the Casper Hybrid.
Motion Transfer
Even though the Casper is bouncy and responsive, it takes the win in this category. Because it has a plusher layer of foam on top, the Casper does a better job of absorbing movement and minimizing disturbance across the surface of the mattress. This could be the better mattress for couples.
Edge Support
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid wins out here thanks to its supportive coils and the additional perimeter coils. We felt more secure while sitting and lying down near the edges of this mattress.
Durability
This is a close one! Both of these mattresses are made with durable materials and should last for between 7 and 10 years.
Off-Gassing
We observed a bit of initial off-gassing from both of these mattresses. This did dissipate within a few days.
Noise
At the time of our review, we didn’t observe any notable noise from either of these beds. That said, because the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid incorporates coils, it’s possible these coils could start to squeak a bit over time.
Sex
The best mattress for sex allows partners to change positions easily. Both the Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid and the Casper are responsive beds, so either one should be a decent fit. The coils on the Signature Hybrid might make it even easier to move around.
