  • Avocado has a 100 percent organic cotton cover that doesn’t affect the overall feel of the mattress significantly.
  • With the pillow-top, the mattress is 13″ thick; without, it’s 11″ thick.
  • The first foam layer is made of natural dunlop latex, providing good pressure relief and bounce.

Loom & Leaf Construction

  • Loom & Leaf’s cover is also made of organic cotton and doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much.
  • The top layer is 2″ of a combination of gel foams. The main foam uses what the company describes as “gel-swirl” construction to evenly distribute temperature. Laminated on top of this gel is a special spinal panel that uses a cooling gel found in burn units of hospitals.
  • The next layer is 2.5″ memory foam that Loom & Leaf says is more environmentally friendly than standard memory foam.
  • A 2″ transition foam layer comes before the base layer, which consists of 5.5″ of dense support foam.

Construction Differences and Notes

  • Avocado uses natural latex, while Loom & Leaf uses a memory foam that it says is environmentally friendly. Avocado’s materials are more green overall.
  • Avocado’s coils make it more durable and supportive.
  • Avocado offers a pillow-top, giving it more of a luxury feel.
  • Loom & Leaf is all-foam and also uses cooling gel for extra breathability.
  • Both have organic cotton covers that are pretty similar.
  • The mattresses are of similar thickness.

Firmness and Feel Differences

Both are relatively firm, but Avocado has more bounce while Loom & Leaf is a little softer and slower moving.

Motion Transfer Differences

Both isolate movement well, but Loom & Leaf prevents its transfer a little better because it is softer.

Pick Avocado If

  • You want more bounce- Avocado has a bouncier surface. The right amount of bounce comes down to personal preference, so this could be a good thing depending on your personal tastes.
  • Natural materials matter to you- Both mattresses tout environmentally friendly materials and have organic cotton covers, but Avocado also uses natural latex.
  • You sleep on your back- Avocado is firmer and will give back sleepers better support.

Pick Loom & Leaf If

  • You want to sink in- Loom & Leaf, while relatively firm, is softer than Avocado and is all-foam. This mattress will let sleepers sink into it slowly and have it contour well to the curves of the body.
  • You sleep on your side- Loom & Leaf will conform better to your contours to give you the support and pressure relief you need.
  • You don’t want to spend too much- Loom & Leaf is less expensive, so consumers can save a little money by choosing it over the Avocado.
