Amerisleep Construction
- Amerisleep offers five firmness options. The 10″ thick AS1 is the most firm, and the 14″ thick AS5 is the softest. Construction is similar across models. The five firmness options are explained in greater depth here.
- All models use a Celliant fabric cover, which evenly distributes thermal energy. Celliant is said to help with muscle recovery and is incorporated into some athletic clothing.
- All models have a top comfort layer of Amerisleep’s Bio-Pur memory foam, with thickness varying by firmness level. This special foam is designed to ensure cool sleeping.
- The softest option, AS5, has under its Bio-Pur layer an additional layer of an especially soft foam. This layer is is not included in other models.
- A supportive transition foam layer comes in as the third layer for AS5, and second layer for medium-firm options AS2, AS3, and AS4. This layer is thickest in the firmer AS2 and thinnest in the softer AS4. AS5 also has a layer of this material.
- All models except AS1 have a 7″ base layer of dense support foam.
- AS1 has only two layers. It goes straight from the Bio-Pur comfort layer to a dense, 8″ thick base layer. The thickness of this firm base layer and lack of middle layers make AS1 firmer.

Construction Differences and Notes
- Both are all-foam and have responsive surfaces.
- Amerisleep has more firmness options.
- Amerisleep has more of a memory foam feel, whereas the Wave has a more balanced foam feel.
- Amerisleep uses Celliant, a material said to help with muscle recovery.
- The Wave conforms more easily to contours than Amerisleep.
- The Wave has five layers, while Amerisleep’s softest option tops out at four layers.
- The Wave has a zoned support system, meaning it has different levels of firmness in different sections of the mattress.
Firmness and Feel Differences
Amerisleep and Casper Wave both offer responsive surfaces, but the Wave’s material is a little more elastic. The Wave is similar in firmness to the Amerisleep AS4. The Wave is also zoned, meaning you can feel a little bit more firmness in the middle of the mattress.
Motion Transfer Differences
Both absorb and isolate motion well. Amerisleep’s softer options do this better than its firmer options. I believe both choices will be good for couples. For more information, it may be helpful to look at our other popular Casper Wave and Amerisleep comparisons like Casper Wave vs Leesa and Amerisleep vs Loom & Leaf.
Choose Casper Wave If …
- You sleep in multiple positions- The Wave features a zoned construction, meaning it is softer underneath the shoulders and firmer underneath the hips. This makes it a good choice for all three sleeping positions (back, stomach, and side).
- You want a medium firmness- If you know you want something of medium firmness, you may not need all the firmness options from Amerisleep.
Choose Amerisleep If …
- You like memory foam- Amerisleep has a traditional memory foam feel that will be comfortable for people who like the material.
- You want a specific level of firmness- Amerisleep comes in five firmness options, while the Wave comes in only one firmness level.
