Brunswick Mattress Firmness and Feel
First things first, let’s examine its firmness and feel. These elements will help you figure out whether the mattress will meet all of your sleep needs.
How Firm is The Brunswick?
Here at Mattress Clarity, we have a firmness scale that ranges from 1-10. The industry standard of medium-firm comes in at 6.5/10. The Brunswick feels firmer than average, coming in at 7/10. If you need a bit more lumbar support, this could be a good choice.
Sleeping On The Brunswick
Because the Brunswick has a firm feel, it works best for back sleepers and lightweight stomach sleepers. Some side sleepers may get the pressure relief they need, but it’s not ideal for everyone who rests in this sleeping position.
What Does The Brunswick Feel Like?
The Brunswick mattress has a classic hybrid feel; it’s bouncy, responsive, and easy to move around on. You shouldn’t feel like you’re sinking “inside” this mattress.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb
Average weight back sleepers should feel a great balance of comfort and support. Side sleepers who weigh closer to 130 lb may get the pressure relief they need, but heavier folks could feel a bit of pain along their shoulders and hips.
The Brunswick mattress works well for stomach sleepers who weigh less than 170 lb, but heavier people may feel their hips sinking out of alignment in this sleeping position. This could lead to lower back pain over time.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb
Heavyweight back sleepers who weigh less than 300 lb may get the lumbar support they need, but we don’t recommend the Brunswick for other types of heavy people. This mattress won’t offer the necessary pressure relief for heavier side sleepers, and larger stomach sleepers will likely feel their backs crane out of alignment.
Take a look at our list of the best mattresses for heavy people for more options.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lb
The Brunswick mattress should work well for lightweight people – no matter the sleeping position. Smaller folks won’t compress the foam layers too much, so they should feel the optimal amount of comfort and support.
Brunswick Mattress Construction
What makes this mattress so special? Let’s pull back the covers and look at its construction.
Layer | Description |
Cover | The Brunswick is surrounded by a durable quilted cover. It’s both comfy and breathable. |
Comfort Layer #1 | The first comfort layer consists of a pillowy Eurotop. |
Comfort Layer # 2 | Beneath that, you’ll find a layer of cooling gel foam, which contours the body and helps dissipate heat. |
Comfort Layer # 3 | The final comfort layer consists of soy-infused Eco-Foam. Thanks to its high-density, it acts as a transition layer and prevents sleepers from “bottoming out” on the mattress. |
Support Layer | The main support layer consists of zoned pocketed springs, which offer great lumbar support and help reduce motion transfer.
A layer of Edge Support Encasement Foam surrounds the perimeter of the mattress. |
Mattress Height
The Brunswick mattress is 12” tall.

Brunswick Mattress Performance
It’s also important to measure a mattress’s performance features. We put the Brunswick through a number of tests to examine its cooling features, motion isolation, edge support, and more.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
If you tend to overheat at night, the Brunswick could be a good option. The pocketed coils promote airflow, and the quilted cover offers breathability. Plus, it contains gel-infused memory foam, which helps pull heat away from the body.
Motion Transfer
Most hybrid mattresses don’t isolate motion well, which can annoy couples who share a bed. If one person tosses and turns at night, the other person might feel movement on their side of the bed.
Fortunately, the Brunswick isolates motion better than many other hybrid and innerspring mattresses on the market. When we tested it, we noticed a bit of movement on the opposite side of the bed, but unless you’re a very light sleeper, this shouldn’t be an issue.
Edge Support
Even with its reinforced perimeter, the Brunswick mattress doesn’t have the best edge support. When you sit or lie down near the side of the bed, you’ll feel the mattress sink a bit. You probably won’t feel like you’ll completely roll off the mattress, but it could force some couples to rest closer to the center of the mattress.
Durability
The Brunswick contains high-quality materials, so we expect it to have a long lifespan. Most hybrid mattresses last seven years, but the Brunswick could last about a decade.
Off-Gassing
Off-gassing, or the emission of a chemical smell, occurs whenever you unbox a new mattress. It’s quite common, and it occurred when we opened the Brunswick mattress. But don’t let that cause alarm – the smell faded after 48 hours.
Noise
The Brunswick mattress was completely silent when we tested it, but because it contains coils, it may start to squeak as time goes on.
Sex
If you’re looking for one of the best mattresses for sex, chances are, you want a bed that’s easy to move around on. The Brunswick definitely fits the bill. The coil system gives it a responsive feel, making it easy for couples to switch positions on top of the bed.
Company Policies
Before clicking ‘add to cart,’ we always recommend shoppers read the full company policies. Here’s what Brunswick has to offer.
Warranty Info
The Brunswick mattress is backed by a 15-year warranty.
Sleep Trial
The Brunswick also comes with a 120-night trial period.
Return Policy
If you’re unhappy with your purchase, you can return it for a full refund during the first 120 days.
Common Brunswick Mattress Complaints
Most customers gave the Brunswick a 5-star rating, but a few folks had some complaints. The most common grievances came from stomach sleepers who said they didn’t get the support they needed. We recommend stomach sleepers look for one of the best firm mattresses – these beds will offer the hip support folks need in this sleeping position.
How Does The Brunswick Compare To Other Mattresses?
We know how difficult mattress shopping can be. To alleviate some of the headache, we’ll compare the Brunswick with two other popular Canadian mattresses: The Novosbed and Recore.
Brunswick vs Novosbed
The biggest difference between these two mattresses lies in the construction and feel. The Novosbed is an all-foam mattress with a slow-moving feel. The Brunswick mattress is a hybrid mattress that feels bouncy and responsive. And thanks to its breathable coil system, the Brunswick mattress sleeps cooler than the Novosbed.
The Novosbed is available in three firmness options: soft, medium, and firm. The Brunswick, on the other hand, is only available in one firmness level. They’re both bed-in-a-box mattresses that are sold at the same price point. Ultimately, the choice boils down to your personal preference.
Who Should Get The Brunswick?
- Fans of bouncy hybrid mattresses
- Hot sleepers
Who Should Get Novosbed?
- People who want to choose between many firmness options
- Fans of a slow-moving, all-foam feel

Brunswick vs Recore
Even though they’re both hybrids, the Brunswick and Recore mattresses have many differences. The Recore mattress contains graphite-infused latex foam, which feels more breathable than traditional memory foam. It’s also more durable and responsive.
Beneath this sits a layer of gel foam, which is similar to what you’ll find in the Brunswick mattress. Both beds sleep cool at night, but the Recore has a slight advantage. Both mattresses have the same firmness level, 7/10, so they work well for back and side sleepers. They’re also sold at the same price point!
Who Should Get The Brunswick Mattress?
- People who prefer more of a balanced hybrid feel
- Folks who don’t sleep too hot at night, but still want a cooling mattress.
Who Should Get The Recore Mattress?
- People who want a more responsive hybrid mattress.
- People who sleep particularly hot at night.

How long will Brunswick last?
The Brunswick should last about 10 years, which is about three years longer than most bed-in-a-box mattresses.
Can you flip the Brunswick?
No, you can’t flip the Brunswick mattress. It has coils at the bottom and soft foam layers on top, so if you flipped it, the mattress wouldn’t feel comfortable.

If you’re not happy with your purchase, you can return it for a full refund – as long as it’s during the initial sleep trial period.
