How Firm Are The Loom & Leaf And Zenhaven Mattresses?
The Loom & Leaf has a tendency to soften over the years, which means it could fluctuate between a 6.5/10 and 7/10 on the firmness scale. Regardless of any change, the bed still stays at Medium Firm.
The Zenhaven has the exact same Medium Firm range, albeit across two different sides. The Gentle Firm side feels like a 7/10 and the Luxury Plush side feels like a 6.5/10.
Sleeping On the Loom & Leaf And Zenhaven Mattresses
We tested out both beds in a variety of sleeping positions. Here’s how each of them felt.
The Loom & Leaf provided a lot of pressure relief around the shoulders and hips, which could be a good fit for side sleepers. Back sleepers will also likely find comfort, thanks to the top layer of memory foam filling in the lumbar region. Stomach-sleeping proved to be less ideal since there wasn’t enough support at the hips.
On the Gentle Firm side of the Zenhaven mattress, there was a lack of sinkage that might make the bed a good choice for back sleepers. This side also had enough firmness to support stomach sleepers. Flip the mattress over to the Luxury Plush side, and the bed felt even better on the back.
On the other hand, side sleepers may want to seek out a different mattress. Neither the Gentle Firm nor the Luxury Plush side felt soft enough, and thus added unwanted pressure in this position.
What Do The Loom & Leaf And Zenhaven Mattresses Feel Like?
The Loom & Leaf offers a classic memory foam experience—a little bit of sinkage, a little bit of contouring, and an overall slow responsiveness.
The Zenhaven’s natural materials result in a bouncier foam feel. It’s a lot easier to move around on this bed.
Average-Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs
Average-weight back and side sleepers should appreciate the contouring, pressure relief, and lumbar support of the Loom & Leaf. But average-weight stomach sleepers might want a bed with more support on the hips—maybe even the Firm model.
On the Zenhaven, average-weight back and stomach sleepers should feel comfortable on both sides of the mattress. But if they had to pick sides, back sleepers will probably prefer the Luxury Plush and stomach sleepers will probably prefer the Gentle Firm. Neither side is ideal for side sleepers, who might feel some unwanted pressure in this position.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs
The Loom & Leaf might be a good fit for heavyweight sleepers because of its denser materials. Side-sleeping will probably be the most comfortable position on the Relaxed Firm model. Heavier back and stomach sleepers might want to look into the Firm.
There’s a lot to unpack for heavier sleepers on the Zenhaven, so let’s break it down as simply as we can.
The Gentle Firm side will probably feel like a 7.5/10 on the firmness scale and the Luxury Plush side will probably feel like a 7/10. That means heavier stomach sleepers will likely prefer the Gentle Firm side and heavier back sleepers should be comfortable on both sides of the mattress. Despite being softer than the Gentle Firm side, the Luxury Plush side still provides a lot of support.
For heavier side sleepers, both sides still put pressure on the shoulders and hips, so they’re probably better off seeking out one of the best mattresses for heavy people.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs
Both Loom & Leaf models might be too firm for lightweight sleepers. But those same folks should be comfortable in all sleeping positions—even the side—on both sides of the Zenhaven. Because lightweight sleepers don’t sink into the bed as much, they likely won’t feel that pressure on their shoulders and hips.
Mattress Construction Differences
Let’s put on our x-ray goggles and take a look inside both of these mattresses to see how they’re constructed.
Cover
The Loom & Leaf’s cover is a quilted, organic cotton that helps the mattress sleep cool. Its surface is also zoned to provide support in the middle of the bed.
The Zenhaven’s cover is made from an organic cotton. So from the get-go, you’re already experiencing an eco-friendly construction.
Comfort Layers
The first three layers of the Loom & Leaf are built for comfort. We start with a 2” layer of memory foam with a 4-lb density—its surface convoluted to help out with airflow.
The next comfort layer is surfaced with a laminate panel of Spinal Zone Gel. A proprietary solution created by Loom & Leaf, the solution promotes a lower temperature, in addition to promoting spinal support.
The third and final comfort layer is 2” of denser memory foam with a 5-lb. density. This should help the sleeper experience some cozy body contouring.
As with any flippable mattress, the Zenhaven’s comfort layers vary depending on which side you’re using. The Luxury Plush side has a flame-retardant layer of wool over a 1.5” layer of Luxury Plush Talalay latex. Like the cover of the Loom & Leaf, this material is zoned, so the firmness changes at different points in the mattress. There’s a firmer support under the hips and a softer feel under the shoulders.
On the Gentle Firm side, there’s a 1.5” layer of Gentle Firm Talalay latex—a material that’s slightly softer than the Luxury Plush Talalay latex.
Support Layer
The Loom & Leaf gets extra support at the bottom of the bed from a final layer of standard polyfoam.
And as you probably guessed, the Zenhaven has two different support layers depending on the side. On the Luxury Plush side, you’ll encounter a 3” Talaly latex Plush base layer. Below that is a 3” Talalay latex Firm base layer.
On the Gentle Firm side, the flame-retardant layer and knitted cover become the support layer.

The Loom & Leaf is 12” tall and the Zenhaven is slightly shorter at 10″.

As anyone who regularly reads this site knows, we put all of the beds through a series of performance tests, including temperature regulation, motion transfer, and more. Let’s see how these two mattresses performed.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
Even though memory foam tends to sleep hot, the Loom & Leaf’s cooling technology helps the bed keep a low temperature. And because the Zenhaven uses latex—a naturally cooler material—it’s also able to keep the heat at bay. We’ll call this category a tie.
Motion Transfer
Latex mattresses tend not to perform as well as memory foam when it comes to motion isolation, so the Loom & Leaf wins this round. The Zenhaven probably isn’t the best mattress for couples.
Edge Support
If you share a bed with someone, you may also want to consider a mattress’s edge support. When you sit or lie down near the side, will you feel secure or unstable?
Although the Loom & Leaf does have above-average edge support for a memory foam mattress, the Zenhaven is probably the safer bet if this category is important to you. We were able to sit on the bed and tie our shoes with little collapse on the mattress.
Durability
Make no mistake—both of these beds are made of sturdy materials that should make for a long-term investment. But because latex tends to be more durable than memory foam, we’re going to give the Zenhaven a slight advantage here.

Off-gassing is just another way to describe the faint smell that emerges when opening and unrolling any bed-in-a-box.

Noise
Foam and latex beds both tend to be silent, so there shouldn’t be any noticeable noise on the Loom & Leaf or Zenhaven. Louder sounds usually come from the springs found in hybrid beds.
