Average weight sleepers probably won’t feel comfortable on either of these mattresses because they will both be too firm. However, average weight stomach sleepers closer to 230lbs might find good support on the Big Fig if they like firmer mattresses. Average weight side sleepers close to 230lbs might find the Helix Plus to be supportive, but might develop pain in their pressure points over time. For average weight back and stomach sleepers, this mattress won’t give them the support they need.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs
The Big Fig is a great choice for heavier stomach sleepers. Stomach sleepers with bigger figures should feel well supported throughout the night. Heavier side sleepers might not feel as supported. Their hips could sink in and they could feel pressure on their shoulders and hips. Heavier side sleepers over 300lbs should find good pressure relief from the Big Fig. Heavier back sleepers might feel their back arch too much because their hips won’t sink in. Those weighing over 300lbs might sink in enough to make this a good option for back sleeping.
The Helix Plus is a great option for plus size sleepers who sleep on their back. The foam layers provide lumbar support which allow heavier back sleepers to feel supported. This mattress also provides good contouring for added relief. Heavier side sleepers could feel some pressure on this mattress. They could still feel some near their shoulders and hips, though not as much as on the Big Fig. This mattress should provide great support for heavier stomach sleepers.

The cover of the Big Fig is quilted with 1” of ThermoGel foam. This cover adds additional cooling and pressure relief to the mattress.
You have two cover options with the Helix Plus. You can choose from a breathable Tencel cover or special GlacioTex™ Cooling Pillow Top.
Comfort Layers
The Big Fig has a ½ inch comfort layer made of gel-infused latex foam. This layer adds bounciness to the mattress, helps with airflow, and adds breathability. Below that, the Big Fig has three 1” layers of polyfoam. These layers add extra support and protect against sagging.
The Helix Plus has two comfort layers. The top comfort layer is an inch of high-density Helix Responsive Foam. This layer offers nice pressure relief while still holding up heavier bodies. Below that is a layer of Helix Dynamic Foam. This bouncy, latex-like foam adds some responsiveness to the top of this mattress.
Support Layer
Underneath the comfort layers, Big Fig has 7” of individually wrapped coils. This coil layer is supportive, durable, and breathable. Underneath the coils is a 1.5” base of high-density polyfoam to add to the support system of the mattress.
Helix Plus’ base layer features tall coils that are individually wrapped and made to handle heavier weights. They are also firmer towards the edge to help provide more edge support for heavy people. Beneath the pocketed coils is a layer of Helix DuraDense foam which supports the entire mattress.

Sleeping Hot or Cold
The Big Fig mattress has gel infusions in both the comfort layer and cover. The ThermoGel foam is designed to prevent hot sleepers from overheating and the coils should promote airflow.
The Helix Plus also has some impressive features to keep you sleeping cool. The tencel cover should promote airflow and the memory foam layers are infused with a cooling gel to keep you from overheating throughout the night.
Motion Transfer
The Big Fig does an excellent job isolating motion. The Big Fig’s multiple foam layers help with motion isolation and make this one of the best mattresses for couples who don’t want to be disturbed by one another during the night.
While the Helix PLUS does a good job of handling most motion transfer, it is not as good at motion isolation as the Big Fig. Couples may feel each other toss and turn on this mattress while they sleep.
Edge Support
The Big Fig has a foam encasement to help with edge support. Whether you’re sitting or lying near the edge of the bed, you should feel supported by this mattress.
The Helix PLUS has great edge support as well. The coils near the edge are firmer, providing added support around the edges.
Durability
The Big Fig will be the more durable mattress between the two. It has extremely durable foam and its coils will add some life to the mattress.
However, the Hexlic Plus is also quite durable. Because of its DuraDense foam, this mattress won’t sag for years to come.
Off-Gassing
As an online mattress, the Big Fig might have some off-gassing but it should dissipate in 24-48 hours.
Since the Helix Plus is also a bed-in-a-box, it might also have some off-gassing. However all off-gassing should dissipate within 48 hours.
Noise
While it’s possible the coils could create noise over time, we did not notice any noise when testing the Big Fig mattress.
While Helix Plus features coils, it’s not particularly noisy. However, the coils may begin to squeak over time.
Sex
If you’re looking for the best mattress for sex, you’ll want something bouncy and easy to move around on. Since the Big Fig is bouncy and responsive, it should be a good mattress for sex. Big Fig’s balance hybrid feel means it should be easy to move around on as well.
The Helix Plus will be a similar story. It’s a bouncy mattress, but because of its memory foam feel, it might not be as easy to move around on as the Big Fig.
