Layla vs Nectar Mattress Overview
The Layla is a memory foam mattress made famous by its flippable construction. It features both a soft side and a firm side, offering two firmnesses in one mattress. This can give mattress shoppers comfort as they have two chances to get the right firmness for them. It’s a great option for multiple sleeping positions.
The Nectar is another memory foam mattress that is known for providing excellent comfort. While the brand has expanded to include the Nectar Premier and Nectar Premier Copper, the Nectar Original mattress is where it all began. It is notable for the multiple cooling materials that keep it from trapping heat.
There is a lot to love about both of these mattresses, but your sleep preferences are really going to determine which you should choose.

Layla vs Nectar Mattress Video Comparison
Watch our video review to see more about my experience with the Layla and Nectar mattresses.
Similarities Between The Layla And Nectar
At first glance, the Layla and Nectar have quite a few similarities:
- The Layla and Nectar are both all-foam beds. There is also a Layla Hybrid mattress, but in this review I am talking about the Layla memory foam mattress.
- Both mattresses feature memory foam in their comfort layers.
- The Layla and Nectar have a similar, slow-moving memory foam feel.
- Both contain cooling materials in their cover and comfort layer.
- Layla and Nectar offer similar customer service terms like long warranties and sleep trials.
Differences Between The Layla And Nectar
While they are both all-foam mattresses, the Layla and Nectar do have their differences.
- The Layla is a flippable mattress, but the Nectar is not.
- The Nectar is medium-firm, while the Layla has a soft side and a firm side.
- With discounts, the Nectar costs less than the Layla.
Firmness and Feel Differences
Firmness and feel are important to consider when you are shopping for a new mattress. Let’s discuss how the Layla and Nectar compare.
How Firm Are The Layla And Nectar Mattresses?
The Layla mattress has two sides, and it has two firmnesses. The soft side of the mattress feels like a 6/10 which is just a tad softer than average on our firmness scale. The thick layer of memory foam on this side provides a great deal of contouring. The firmer side of the mattress features much less comfort material and feels like an 8/10, firmer than average.
The Nectar only has one firmness level and, in my experience, it feels like 6.5/10. This is the industry standard for medium-firm, and the Nectar features the perfect balance of comfort and support.
Sleeping On The Layla And Nectar Mattresses
First off, I want to note that I am a larger person. I am 6’7” tall, and I weigh 270 lbs. As you will see below, your body type will really determine what a mattress feels like to you.
Starting off on the soft side of the Layla mattress, I don’t feel the best while back sleeping. I am not getting enough support under my lumbar area, and I feel like I’m dropping into the mattress. However, when I move to my side, that soft memory foam is relieving pressure around my shoulders and hips. Stomach sleeping, this side of the mattress is too soft for me, and I feel like my hips are bowing into the mattress. This could lead to back pain over time. Make sure to check out our best mattresses for back pain if you deal with this.
The firm side feels much more supportive when I am back sleeping. My hips sink in just a bit, and I can feel the support of the base foam. When I am side sleeping, the firm side of the mattress is not providing me with enough relief on my pressure points. I feel some serious bunching up around my shoulders and hips. However, when I am stomach sleeping, I feel much better support than I felt on the soft side.
On the Nectar, I feel better back sleeping than I did on either side of the Layla mattress. I’m getting great support and the memory foam conforms to the shape of my body. Side sleeping, I feel decent pressure relief on the Nectar but not as good as I felt on the Layla mattress. Stomach sleeping, I’m feeling good support under my hips.
What Do The Layla And Nectar Mattresses Feel Like
The Layla and Nectar both have a similar slow-moving traditional memory foam feel. When I lie down on both mattresses, I can feel myself slowly sinking in.
Between the two mattresses, the Layla has even more of that classic memory foam feel. The Layla mattress has more sinkage, while the Nectar has more of an “on top” of the bed feel. s
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb
Average weight back sleepers are probably going to prefer the Nectar mattress over either side of the Layla mattress. The Nectar is closer to medium-firm and should provide that balance of comfort and support for average weight back sleepers. The soft side of the Layla should be too soft for them, and the firm side should be too firm.
Average weight side sleepers should take a look at the soft side of the Layla mattress. It is softer than the Nectar mattress and should provide better pressure relief for the shoulders and hips. The Nectar could offer good pressure relief for average weight side sleepers but not quite as good as the Layla.
Stomach sleepers of this body type should feel the best support on the firm side of the Layla mattress. This side should keep their hips from dipping too far into the mattress. Average weight stomach sleepers who weigh closer to 130 lb could get enough support on the Nectar as well.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb
Heavyweight back sleepers should feel decent support on the Nectar, but the firm side of the Layla should work better for them. They will be heavy enough so that their hips sink into the mattress the right amount. However, those who are closer to 300 lb should take a look at a hybrid mattress, innerspring mattress, or a mattress made just for heavy people.
If you are a side sleeper on the heavier side, you want a mattress with a thick comfort layer that doesn’t cause you to “bottom out” and drop through the mattress. If you weigh just over 230 lb, you should feel better pressure relief on the soft side of the Layla. If you weigh much more than 250 lb, you could press too far into this mattress, and feel some pressure on your shoulders and hips.
Stomach sleepers in this weight range probably won’t get enough support on either mattress. If this applies to you, take a look at one of our best mattresses for heavy people.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lb
Lightweight back sleepers might feel comfortable on the soft side of the Layla mattress, but the firm side will definitely feel too firm for them. Still, between the two mattresses, they should feel a better balance of comfort and support on the Nectar mattress.
Side sleeping, lightweight sleepers should like both the soft side of the Layla and the Nectar mattress as well. They will mostly be feeling the soft top layers of the Nectar, so they should feel more pressure relief than average weight or heavyweight sleepers might.
Stomach sleeping, lightweight sleepers will get enough support on the Nectar and the firm side of the Layla mattress. They should feel good overall support on both mattresses.
Mattress Construction Differences
Let’s look at the construction of the Layla and Nectar mattresses layer by layer:
Cover
The Layla features a soft cover that is breathable and contains cooling materials. It is cool to the touch and designed to draw heat away from your body. The Nectar features a similar soft cover with cooling properties.
Comfort Layers
The Layla mattress has comfort layers on both sides of the mattress. The firm side and soft side both feature a layer of copper-infused memory foam that is soft and pressure-relieving. The copper infusion is there to keep the memory foam from trapping body heat. It is also antimicrobial and helps prevent the buildup of bacteria in the mattress. The soft side offers more of this memory foam to offer a softer feel.
The Nectar mattress also features memory foam in its comfort layer. Instead of copper, it contains gel to help with cooling. This gel memory foam is also great with pressure relief.
Transition Layer
The soft side of the mattress features a transition layer of MaxAirflow foam. Channels are cut into this layer to help with airflow and it is also zoned to provide targeted support.
The Nectar has a bouncy high-density polyfoam transition layer that keeps you from sinking into the mattress too far.
Support Layer
The Layla and Nectar mattresses both feature base support foam. This material is high-density and helps to keep the body elevated.
Mattress Height
The Layla mattress is 10” tall, and the Nectar is 12” tall.

Layla and Nectar Performance Differences
There are a number of other qualities you should consider when shopping for a mattress. We tested the Layla and Nectar for cooling, motion transfer, and other criteria. Let’s see how they did!
Sleeping Hot or Cold
While these are both all-foam mattresses, they do feature cooling infusions to prevent overheating. This is a common problem with memory foam mattresses but, in my experience, neither the Layla nor Nectar causes me to sleep particularly hot.
Still, if you sleep very hot, take a look at our best cooling mattresses article.
Motion Transfer
Memory foam mattresses are usually fantastic at cutting down on motion transfer. This slow-moving material absorbs motion, keeping it isolated to each side of the mattress.
It’s no surprise that the Layla and Nectar are great at motion isolation. You shouldn’t feel a sleeping partner’s movements during the night. If you want a mattress for couples, either of these could work for you.
Edge Support
Edge support is also important for couples to look for in a new mattress. A mattress with solid edge support allows both partners to sleep all the way toward the edge of the mattress.
Between the two mattresses, the Nectar boasts better edge support. I feel much more secure sleeping toward the edge of this mattress. Sleeping toward the edge of the Layla, I feel a bit like I might roll off.
Durability
The Layla and Nectar appear equal when it comes to durability. They feature very similar materials that should last for a similar amount of time. Considering these materials, the Layla and Nectar should last for between 7 and 10 years.
Off-gassing
These are both memory foam mattresses, so there is going to be some off-gassing. When I unboxed them, they gave off a chemical smell, but it did dissipate after 48 hours.
Sex
If you want one of the best mattresses for sex, memory foam isn’t usually going to be a good choice. Its lack of response can make it difficult for sexual partners to change positions. Being memory foam mattresses, the Layla and Nectar aren’t great for sex.
Noise
The Layla and Nectar are both quiet mattresses. They make no noise when I roll around on them and get in and out of bed.
Company Policies
Let’s take a look at the fine print for these two mattresses.
Warranty Info
The Layla and Nectar both come with a lifetime warranty.
Sleep Trial
You have 120 nights to try out the Layla mattress, and the Nectar comes with a 365-night trial period.
Return Policy
Both mattresses come with free shipping and returns.
