Firmness and Feel Differences
We always make sure to discuss firmness and feel when comparing two mattresses. After all, they’re probably the two most important factors when it comes to sleeping.
How Firm Are the Nectar and Brooklyn Bedding Mattresses?
The Nectar has a firmness level of 6.5/10, meaning it’s in the Medium Firm category. The top layer starts off soft, and every layer below it gets progressively firmer.
Brooklyn Bedding’s Signature also scores a 6.5/10, even if the feel of the bed is a lot different.
Sleeping on the Nectar and Brooklyn Bedding Mattresses
The Nectar feels best on the back, its memory foam layers offering some sinkage and conforming to the body. The base layer also provides some strong support on the lower back. We felt just a little bit of pressure when sleeping on our side, but nothing too drastic. Average-weight and lightweight side sleepers should be fine (more on that in a bit).
The Nectar is probably too soft for most stomach sleepers, who tend to require more overall body support. At the end of the day, this is a plush bed with a level of contouring that also makes it one of the best mattresses for arthritis.
As with the Nectar, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature is also a good option for back sleepers. It has just the right amount of comfort and support, and is often ranked as one of the best mattresses for back sleepers.
While side-sleeping isn’t the worst on the Signature, anyone in this position may want to opt for the brand’s Soft model. Similarly, stomach-sleeping feels reasonably comfortable on the Signature, but strict stomach sleepers will probably want to seek out the Firm model.
What Do the Nectar and Brooklyn Bedding Mattresses Feel Like?
Overall, the Nectar is softer and has more sinkage while Brooklyn Bedding is springier and has more balance. But this will undoubtedly vary from person to person based on sleeping position and body weight. Let’s see how these beds might feel for different sleepers.
Average-Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs
Average-weight side back and sleepers should get the support and comfort they need on the Nectar. Average-weight stomach sleepers will probably need a more supportive bed overall. However, there is one notable exception in this category—the Nectar is one of the best mattresses for teenagers.
Average-weight back sleepers should be just as happy on the Brooklyn Bedding Signature, experiencing a balance of comfort and support. Side sleepers under 200 lbs might fare well, too, but those closer to 230 lbs should definitely look into the Soft model. Same goes for Stomach Sleepers, who might want to opt for the Firm option.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs
The Nectar is probably not the best option for heavier sleepers. It’s just too soft. Some heavier back sleepers have reported feeling comfortable, but in general, they might need something more supportive with coils in its constructions, especially if the sleeper is close to or over 300 lbs.
Back sleepers closer to 230 lbs should be well-supported on Brooklyn Bedding, but those closer to or over 300 lbs might need something with coils and stronger layers. Heavier side sleepers will most likely need a softer bed with a thicker comfort layer, and heavyweight stomach sleepers will probably want something more supportive. Brooklyn Bedding actually makes two other beds for this specific purpose: the Titan Luxe Hybrid and Titan Foam Hybrid.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs
Lightweight back and side sleepers are usually comfortable on most memory foam mattresses, and the Nectar is no exception. But lightweight stomach sleepers might need something firmer, depending on their weight.
On the Brooklyn Bedding Signature, lightweight sleepers of all three positions should feel supported and comfortable.
Mattress Construction Differences
There’s a lot going on beneath the covers of these two beds, so let’s dive in and see what they’re made of.
Cover
The Nectar’s cover is made of a breathable polyethylene, which helps keep the top of the mattress cool.
Also light and breathable, the Brooklyn Bedding Signature’s cover is quilted with soft foam.
Comfort Layers
The first comfort layer on the Nectar is a gel foam that’s slow to respond to pressure. The gel infusion also has the added bonus of providing some extra cooling.
Beneath the gel foam is a layer of Soft Conventional Foam with a higher firmness and density. The change in texture helps transition the sleeper to the support layer underneath.
Brooklyn Bedding also has two comfort layers. The first is 2” of proprietary TitanFlex foam—bouncy, responsive, and infused with TitaniumGel to promote cooling.
The second layer consists of 2” of Energex foam, which is higher-density and also quite responsive. The Energex functions as the transition layer between the foam and the coils below.
Support Layer
Like so many other all-foam mattresses, Nectar has a thick layer of high-density support foam at the base.
Because it’s a hybrid mattress, Brooklyn Bedding’s final layer is a 6” spread of individually wrapped Ascension coils. These offer stability and give the bed a springy feel.

Nectar vs. Brooklyn Bedding Performance Differences
We put both of these beds through a series of tests to measure some of their performance factors. Let’s see how they did against each other.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
Both Nectar and Brooklyn Bedding scored almost identically in the cooling category. Each bed has some built-in features to help with temperature regulation, such as Nectar’s gel foam and Brooklyn Bedding’s TitaniumGel. We’ll call this one a tie.
Motion Transfer
The Nectar uses a slow-moving foam that we found to be especially good at isolating motion. The Brooklyn Bedding Signature doesn’t fare quite so well here, as springs aren’t the best at isolating motion. We’ll give this category to Nectar.
Edge Support
Memory foam isn’t usually known for its strong edge support, so we were pleasantly surprised to find that the Nectar did fairly well in this area.
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature—not so much. We felt a decent amount of collapse when we sat on the edge of the bed. Another win for Nectar.
Durability
Both the Nectar and Brooklyn Bedding mattresses are made with dense, reliable materials that we expect should last seven to 10 years with little issue.
Off-Gassing
Off-gassing is just another word for the faint smell that emerges when opening and unrolling any bed-in-a-box mattress. It’s only temporary, and in the case of Nectar and Brooklyn Bedding, went away after 48 hours. To make it go even faster, try placing the mattress in a well-ventilated room.
Noise
Because the Nectar is made entirely of foam, there shouldn’t be any noticeable noise when moving around. We didn’t pick up any noise with Brooklyn Bedding, either, but springs can tend to start squeaking over time.
Sex
If you’re looking for one of the best mattresses for sex, memory foam usually isn’t the best material. The Nectar probably wouldn’t perform well in this category. But because Brooklyn Bedding is a hybrid bed that’s easy to move around on, it will probably be a good bed for sex. Brooklyn Bedding wins this round.

Brooklyn Bedding does offer full refunds for beds returned within the 120-night trial. But the company asks that you wait 30 days to ensure that the bed has been properly broken in. Also, shipping fees are non-refundable to customers in Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada.
