Key Differences Between The Casper Original And Casper Hybrid?
Even though these mattresses have a lot in common, several factors set them apart.
- The Casper Hybrid features coils in its support layer, while the Casper features polyfoam
- The Casper Hybrid costs more than the Casper
- The Casper Hybrid is more supportive than the Casper
- The Casper Hybrid should be a more durable mattress than the Casper (thanks to the coils)
- The Casper Hybrid should promote more airflow throughout the mattress, which helps it sleep cooler
Firmness And Feel Differences (Including Firmness Rating)
Firmness and feel are critical factors when it comes to assessing whether a mattress is well matched to a particular sleeper. Here’s an in-depth look at what it feels like to sleep on top of both the Casper and Casper Hybrid.
How Firm Are The Casper Original And Casper Hybrid Mattresses?
We ranked the Casper around a 7/10 on the firmness scale, and we put the Casper Hybrid around a 6.5/10. The industry standard for medium firmness is 6.5/10, so this suggests the Casper is just a touch firmer than medium-firm while the Casper Hybrid is right around medium-firm.
That said, it’s important to note that firmness is slightly subjective. A person’s body weight will influence their perception of a mattress’s firmness.
Sleeping On The Casper Original And Casper Hybrid Mattresses
Now, let’s talk about how it actually feels to sleep on these two mattresses:
Casper Original
We felt great while back sleeping on the Casper. Our hips sink in just a touch for some pressure relief, but we still feel like we’re getting enough support to keep the spine properly aligned. In particular, we feel great lumbar support thanks to the mattress’s Zoned Support system. It is actually one of the best mattresses for back sleepers.
We didn’t experience a ton of pressure relief while side sleeping on the Casper. Lighter-weight people should experience more pressure relief, while heavier-weight folks will probably find that the mattress feels too firm in this position.
We generally felt well supported while stomach sleeping on the Casper. However, folks who spend all night in this position might want to look for a firmer mattress to ensure their spine stays properly aligned through the night.
Casper Hybrid
We felt a great balance of support and comfort while back sleeping on the Casper Hybrid. Our hips sank in a touch for pressure relief, while the supportive coils helped sustain proper spinal alignment. We felt great lumbar support here and more support overall than we did on the Casper.
We experienced more pressure relief while side sleeping on the Casper Hybrid (though still not a ton). Lighter-weight side sleepers should feel even better pressure relief.
We felt decent support while stomach sleeping on the Casper Hybrid. That’s thanks to the coils and the Zoned Support system, which elevate the hips and keep them aligned with the spine. We felt better support in this position on the Casper Hybrid than we did on the Casper.
What Do The Casper Original And Casper Hybrid Mattresses Feel Like?
The all-foam Casper mattress has a very bouncy, responsive foam feel. It’s easy to move around on top of this mattress.
The Casper Hybrid has a very similar feel to the Casper, but with even more bounce thanks to the coils. Its comfort layers also feel a touch softer than on the Casper, so it provides just a bit more pressure relief.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs
When it comes to average-weight back sleepers, the Casper offers a touch of pressure relief combined with spinal support. Side sleepers who like a firmer feel might feel comfortable on the mattress, but folks who like more body contouring or need a lot of pressure relief will probably want a plusher or softer mattress. The Casper could be supportive enough for average-weight stomach sleepers, particularly those who are on the lower end of the weight spectrum.
The Casper Hybrid provides a great balance of comfort and support for average-weight back sleepers. It might provide enough pressure relief for some side sleepers, but folks who like more body contouring or pressure relief will want to look for a plusher, softer mattress. Thanks to its supportive coils, the Casper Hybrid could be well suited to average-weight stomach sleepers.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs
The Casper mattress might not be supportive enough for heavyweight back sleepers, who might feel that their hips sink in too far. This mattress probably won’t offer enough pressure relief to heavyweight side sleepers or stomach sleepers.
The Casper Hybrid could be supportive enough for heavyweight back sleepers who are close to 230 pounds. (Folks who are much heavier than that will probably need a more supportive mattress overall.) Heavyweight side sleepers will probably find that this mattress feels too firm. The Casper Hybrid could be supportive enough for some heavyweight stomach sleepers, though it might not offer enough pressure relief to folks who spend all night in this position.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs
The Casper should be well suited to lightweight back sleepers, who will enjoy a balance of comfort and support in this position. Lightweight side sleepers should find enough pressure relief on this mattress, because they won’t press through the comfort layers and into the firmer support layer underneath. The Casper should be supportive enough to align the spine of lightweight stomach sleepers.
The Casper Hybrid is also well suited to lightweight sleepers of all stripes. It balances support and pressure relief for back sleepers, provides adequate pressure relief to side sleepers, and should feel supportive enough for stomach sleepers.

Mattress Construction Differences
Now that we’ve covered what it feels like to sleep on top of the Casper and Casper Hybrid mattresses, let’s take a closer look at what’s inside these two beds. We’ll review each bed’s construction and relate these construction elements to the mattresses’ performance.
Cover
Both the all-foam Casper and the Casper Hybrid feature the same cover construction. It’s soft, very breathable, and made from recycled bottles.
Comfort Layers
The Casper and Casper Hybrid boast the same materials and construction in their comfort layers. The top layer is made from Casper’s proprietary Airscape foam, which is a perforated foam that’s very breathable and allows for some airflow. This layer is quite plush but also responsive.
Next up is the element that distinguishes all of the Casper mattresses: the Zoned Support layer. This is a layer of memory foam, but it’s not just one solid piece. Instead, the center is firmer while the head and foot of the mattress are softer. The idea is to make the mattress feel firmer and more supportive while back and stomach sleeping and softer and more pressure-relieving when side sleeping.
Support Layer
The support layer is where the Casper and Casper Hybrid are distinguished from each other. The all-foam Casper features a support layer made from dense polyfoam, while the Casper Hybrid’s support layer incorporates bouncy and supportive coils.
Mattress Height
Both the Casper and Casper Hybrid are 11” thick.

Casper Original Vs Casper Hybrid Performance Differences
We’ve looked at the firmness, feel, and construction of both the Casper and Casper Hybrid, but we’re not done yet! We put each of these mattresses through a range of tests to assess their performance when it comes to motion transfer, edge support, temperature regulation, and more. Let’s see how they stack up!
Sleeping Hot Or Cold
The Casper Hybrid wins out here. The coils allow for more airflow through the mattress, so it’s likely to sleep cooler than the all-foam Casper.
Motion Transfer
We called this one a tie. Because the Casper and Casper Hybrid both have the same materials in their comfort layers, they perform equally when it comes to motion transfer. The foams do a decent job of absorbing motion and minimizing disturbance across the bed, which could be ideal for couples.
Edge Support
The Casper Hybrid is the winner. The coils shore up the mattress overall and helped us feel more supported while sitting or lying near the edge of the bed.
Durability
Because there’s so much overlap in these mattresses’ construction and materials, they’re pretty similar in terms of durability. That said, the Casper Hybrid might last longer because of the coils, which are more durable than foam.
Off-Gassing
Another tie. We observed some off-gassing from each mattress, but this should dissipate within a few days.
Noise
We didn’t observe any notable noise from either the Casper or the Casper Hybrid. That said, because the Hybrid includes coils, it’s possible they could start to squeak a bit years down the road.
Sex
When people look for a mattress for sex, they’re generally looking for a mattress that makes it easy to move around. Both the Casper and Casper Hybrid have a bouncy, responsive feel, so either mattress should be a good match for sex. The Casper Hybrid has even more bounce.
Warranty Info
Because they’re sold by the same brand, the Casper and Casper Hybrid boast the same warranty terms. Both mattresses come with a 10-year warranty and a 100-night sleep trial.
