How Firm is the Brentwood Home Cedar Mattress?
In terms of firmness, the Cedar felt like a 6.5/10, or about average. You have a very soft, fluffy top and then you hit some firmer latex and coils. I will say that you might have a different experience depending on your weight. Lighter people might think it is soft, and heavier people might find it to be firmer.
Sleeping On The Brentwood Home Cedar Mattress
The Cedar was a good match when I was on my back. My hips sunk into the wool layer, but the latex stopped them from sinking in too far. I also felt like the mattress was conformed to the shape of my body. Overall, I felt great support. See our best mattresses for back sleepers for more like the Cedar.
On my side, I did feel some decent pressure relief. The wool on top is very soft, so it relieves pressure on the shoulders and hips. However, I think if you are a larger side sleeper, the mattress might not be a great fit for you. You may hit the firmer layers and feel some pressure.
Finally, when I moved to my stomach, the mattress was too soft for me. That top wool layer does not support my hips, so I do bow into the mattress somewhat. I believe this is not the best mattress for stomach sleepers.
What Does the Brentwood Home Cedar Mattress Feel Like?
The mattress has a unique bouncy feel with a soft, fluffy top. The latex is very responsive and returns to its original shape very quickly. This makes it easy to move around on the mattress. Also, you can feel the support of coils beneath the wool and latex.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230lbs
Average weight back sleepers should find the Brentwood Home Cedar feels very comfortable. For people who weigh between 130lbs and 230lbs, this mattress should provide a great balance of comfort and support. It’s also a good choice for average weight side sleepers. The soft wool on top helps relieve pain on pressure points.
Stomach sleepers may find the Brentwood Home Cedar feels too soft. People who prefer this sleeping position should look for a firmer mattress that can support their hips.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230lbs – H3
Heavier sleepers will think the Brentwood Home Cedar mattress feel much firmer, more of an 8/10 on our firmness scale. This makes it an excellent option for back sleepers. Heavier people will sink into the top layer a good amount and feel great overall support.
While side sleeping, heavier people will likely feel too much pressure on their shoulders and hips. It’s also not a great option for heavier stomach sleepers. When lying in this sleeping position, heavier people will likely feel their hips bow somewhat, and they won’t get the proper support.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130lbs
On the Brentwood Home Cedar, lightweight sleepers should feel comfortable in all sleeping positions. The top layers should provide enough comfort, while the coil system adds the necessary support.

The cover is made with soft, organic cotton. It is quilted with New Zealand Wool.
Comfort Layers
The first comfort layer consists of 2″ of all-natural Dunlop latex, which gives the mattress a bouncy feel. This responsive material snaps back into place quickly, so it should be easy to move around on the Cedar.

Beneath the first comfort layer sits 2″ of convoluted Dunlop Latex. This layer is grooved, which is meant to help with pressure relief.
Support Layer
The support layer consists of 8″ of individually-wrapped coils, which helps make the Cedar a very supportive mattress. Beneath this sits a 1″ base made out of coconut husk.
Mattress Height
The mattress without the topper is 11” tall. With the topper, it is 14″ tall.

Sleeping Hot or Cold
If you overheat at night, the Cedar should be a good option for you. The coils allow for a good amount of airflow, while the latex layers and wool should help dissipate heat as well. Overall, it should be a cooler sleeping mattress.
Motion Transfer
When it comes to motion transfer, latex is not always the best material. During my tests, I was not surprised to see some real motion transfer on the Cedar.
When I placed a glass of water on the mattress and pushed into the surrounding area, the water was quite disturbed. Also, I lay down on the mattress and asked Marten to move around on the other side. I did feel his movements on my side of the mattress.
If you sleep with a partner, it is worth noting that you might feel their movements transfer to your side of the mattress.
Edge Support
Given that the Cedar is a hybrid mattress with supportive coils, I expected it to feature some good edge support. The mattress did not disappoint.
While sitting near the edge of the Cedar, I felt very secure and did not feel like I was going to fall forward. While lying down near the edge, I did not feel like I was going to roll off the mattress.
Durability
The Cedar contains latex as well as high-grade coils. These are both very durable materials, so this should be a longer-lasting mattress.
Off-Gassing
Online mattresses often give off a slight chemical smell, which is known as off-gassing. But because the Brentwood Home Cedar mattress is made with organic materials, we did not notice a significant smell when opening this bed-in-a-box.
Noise
While testing, we found the Brentwood Home Cedar to be a very quiet mattress. It’s possible the support coils could create sound over time, but we do not anticipate this being an issue.
Sex
Because of its responsive and bouncy feel, the Cedar would be a good mattress for sex. It’s easy to move around on, and couples won’t feel like they are sinking into the top layers.

Like the Brentwood Home Cedar mattress, the Saatva Latex Hybrid is made with organic and eco-friendly materials. But the two beds differ in terms of firmness.
