GhostBed Luxe Mattress Video Review
You might not be able to try a GhostBed Luxe in person right now, but we’ve created the next best thing! In this in-depth video review, our reviewer Marten assesses each layer of this bed’s construction and shares his experience with sleeping in every position on this mattress.
GhostBed Luxe Mattress Firmness and Feel
When you’re trying to determine whether a mattress is a good fit for your sleep needs and preferences, it’s always helpful to start by considering firmness and feel. These factors will tell you a lot about whether a mattress might be a good match for you. So let’s kick off the in-depth portion of this review by looking at the firmness and feel on the GhostBed Luxe mattress!
How Firm Is the GhostBed Luxe?
We ranked the GhostBed Luxe around a 6/10 on the firmness scale. The industry standard for medium-firmness is 6.5/10, so this suggests the GhostBed Luxe is a bit softer than medium-firm.
That being said, note that firmness is a bit subjective. Depending on your body weight and personal preferences, you might perceive the GhostBed Luxe to be a touch firmer or softer than our ranking.
Sleeping on the GhostBed Luxe
We felt great while back sleeping on the GhostBed Luxe. We enjoyed a good balance of comfort and spinal support. This should be a great match for most back sleepers.
Because the GhostBed Luxe feels softer than average, it works well for most side sleepers. In this sleeping position, you’ll notice quite a bit of pressure relief along the shoulders and hips. In fact, we named it one of the best mattresses for side sleepers.
We found the GhostBed Luxe to be a too soft for stomach sleeping. Our hips sank in a bit and pulled the spine out of alignment. That said, lighter-weight sleepers might experience better spinal support in this position.
What Does the GhostBed Luxe Feel Like?
Because the GhostBed Luxe incorporates memory foam into its comfort layers, this mattress has a fairly slow-moving feel. You’ll sink in a touch to enjoy some body contouring, and the mattress responds slowly to pressure.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb
Average-weight back sleepers should enjoy a balance of comfort and spinal support on the GhostBed Luxe. The mattress should also work well for average-weight side sleepers, because the comfort layers cushion pressure points. The GhostBed Luxe is too soft to be supportive enough for average-weight stomach sleepers.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb
Heavyweight back sleepers who weigh less than 300 lb should enjoy a balance of spinal support and pressure relief on the GhostBed Luxe. Folks who weigh more than 300 lb will probably want to look for a more supportive mattress that’s designed expressly for heavy people. Heavyweight side sleepers should enjoy plenty of pressure relief on this mattress because they’ll sink into the comfort layers to enjoy body contouring. This mattress is almost certainly not supportive enough for heavyweight stomach sleepers.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lb
Lightweight back sleepers might find that the GhostBed Luxe feels too firm in this position because they might not be heavy enough to sink into the thick comfort layer and obtain pressure relief. The same goes for lightweight side sleepers, who will likely find that this mattress feels much too firm and generates serious pressure on the shoulder and hip. This mattress might still be too soft for lightweight stomach sleepers, as they need especially firm mattresses.
The GhostBed Luxe is a solid all-foam mattress that could be a good fit for side sleepers looking for a cooling sleep experience.

GhostBed Luxe Mattress Construction
Now that you know what it’s like to sleep on top of the GhostBed Luxe, let’s pop the hood on this mattress and take a look inside of it! We’ll assess this bed’s construction layer by layer and reveal how different materials influence performance.
Cover
The GhostBed Luxe features a cover made from Ghost Ice Fabric, a proprietary material that’s instantly cool to the touch. It’s woven with a one-inch layer of cooling fibers that help promote airflow. There’s also some gel-infused memory foam in the cover, which adds a touch of pressure relief while the gel infusion further promotes cooling.
Comfort Layers
Because the cover includes a touch of memory foam, it doubles as the top comfort layer. Beneath the cover, there’s a layer of Ghost Memory Foam that offers some additional pressure relief and has a bit of the slow-moving feel that’s common with memory foam. Underneath the memory foam layer, there’s a Ghost Bounce layer that adds a touch of bounce and responsiveness to the mattress.
Support Layer
The GhostBed Luxe’s support layer is made from a high-density base foam that lends structure and support to the mattress as a whole.
Mattress Height
The GhostBed Luxe mattress clocks in at 13” tall.

GhostBed Luxe Mattress Performance
If you’ve read this far, you know a lot about the GhostBed Luxe. But there are still a few key factors to consider. We put this mattress through a slew of tests with regards to temperature regulation, edge support, motion transfer, and more. Let’s see how it performed!
Sleeping Hot or Cold
The GhostBed Luxe does a remarkably good job of sleeping cool, especially for an all-foam mattress. The cover and comfort layers are designed with cooling materials that help promote airflow and keep the mattress feeling cool to the touch.
Motion Transfer
Even though it’s on the firmer side, the GhostBed Luxe handles motion transfer quite well. The memory foam in the comfort layers absorbs motion and helps minimize disturbances across the surface of the mattress. This could be a decent mattress for couples.
Edge Support
In our experience, the GhostBed Luxe boasts solid edge support. We felt secure while sitting and lying down near the edges of this mattress.
Durability
This should be a long-lasting mattress that could last for more than 10 years. That’s thanks largely to multiple layers of high-density foam, which should create a durable mattress that won’t sag. This bed’s durability is reflected in its longer-than-usual warranty.
Off-Gassing
We did observe some initial off-gassing from the GhostBed Luxe. This should dissipate after 48 hours.
Noise
We didn’t observe any notable noise from the GhostBed Luxe. Because of its all-foam construction, this mattress should remain quiet for years to come.
Sex
When people seek out a mattress for sex, they’re typically worried about whether they’ll be able to change positions easily on top of the bed. Because the GhostBed Luxe has a fairly slow-moving feel (thanks to the memory foam in its comfort layers), it might not be the best option.

How Does the GhostBed Luxe Compare to Other Mattresses?
If you’re searching for an online mattress, then you’ve probably come across multiple mattress options. It’s helpful to do some comparison shopping, but this process can also be overwhelming. So we’ve pitted the GhostBed Luxe against its Classic counterpart and one of its main competitors (the original Purple) to give you a sense of how this bed compares to other mattresses on the market. To see how the GhostBed Luxe compares to other brands, see our GhostBed mattress comparisons.
GhostBed Luxe vs. GhostBed Classic
The GhostBed Luxe and GhostBed Classic have a lot of similarities, including:
- They both have good cooling features for hot sleepers
- They both provide good support for back sleepers
- They both have excellent edge support
- They are both made of high quality materials, resulting in good durability
However, while they have a lot in common, there are a few key features that consumers should consider when trying to decide which to purchase. For example, the Classic is an extra firm mattress (8/10 on the firmness scale), while the Luxe is much softer than medium firm (6/10 on the firmness scale). Additionally, the Luxe costs $3095.00 for a Queen size mattress, while the Classic is much less. Budget-conscious shoppers may want to opt for the Classic.
The Classic GhostBed has a layer of synthetic latex foam as its first comfort layer which makes it slightly more responsive than the Luxe, which has a slow moving memory foam feel from its Ghost Memory Foam comfort layer.
Who Should Get the GhostBed Luxe?
- Those looking for a foam mattress with a slow moving feel
- Couples who want a luxurious mattress with good motion isolation
Who Should Get the GhostBed Classic?
- Someone who is looking for a quality mattress but wants to save a little money
- Those looking for a firm mattress
GhostBed Luxe vs. Purple
Whereas the GhostBed Luxe and Puffy Lux boast a lot of similarities, the GhostBed Luxe and Purple are dramatically different when it comes to their construction. The GhostBed Luxe features several comfort layers that incorporate memory foam. In contrast, the Purple’s comfort layer is made from the brand’s proprietary hyper-elastic gel polymer grid.
Because the construction of these mattresses differs dramatically, they also feel drastically different. The GhostBed Luxe has a fairly slow-moving memory foam feel with a bit of responsiveness. The Purple’s gel grid produces a unique feel that is simultaneously squishy and firm. The gel grid collapses when enough pressure is applied (to offer pressure relief) and stays upright everywhere else (for support).
The GhostBed Luxe and Purple mattresses also differ when it comes to firmness. We ranked the GhostBed Luxe around a 6/10, and we put the Purple around a 6.5/10. The Purple is right around medium-firm and will probably feel firmer than the GhostBed Luxe.
Finally, these beds differ in terms of price. At full price, the GhostBed Luxe costs $3095.00 for a Queen-size, while the Purple is more affordable at around $1499.00.
Who Should Get the GhostBed Luxe?
