Idle Sleep Hybrid Mattress Firmness And Feel
It’s essential to consider a bed’s firmness and feel when shopping for a new mattress. These factors have a big impact on whether a mattress will feel comfortable for different types of sleepers.
How Firm Is The Idle Sleep Hybrid?
All versions of the Idle Sleep Hybrid are flippable, but customers have three options – they can opt for the model where both sides are Luxury Firm, one where both sides are Medium, and a model with one Luxury Firm side and one Medium side. The Luxury Firm/Medium blended model gives customers two firmness options in one mattress.
We tested the Medium model of the Idle Sleep Hybrid mattress. In terms of firmness, the Idle Sleep Hybrid Medium feels like a 7/10, a bit firmer-than-average. The top layers are quite soft, and it is very easy to press my hand in. Then I hit the more firm transition and support layers and my hand stops.
Sleeping On The Idle Sleep Hybrid Mattress
This firmer-than-average mattress is a fantastic match for back sleeping – my hips sink in just the right amount and the pocketed coils offer excellent support. I am also getting a bit of contouring from the foam layers on top.
Side sleeping, the Idle Sleep is giving me a decent amount of pressure relief and I don’t feel an extreme amount of pressure on my shoulders and hips. That being said, those who sleep just on their sides may want to look for a softer, more pressure-relieving mattress.
Finally, when I move to my stomach, the Idle Sleep is firm enough and gives me all of the support I need. I don’t feel my hips bowing into the mattress, and I feel like I am in proper neutral spinal alignment.
What Does The Idle Sleep Hybrid Feel Like?
With its hybrid construction, the Idle Sleep has a balanced feel. The top has some of that memory foam feel, but it is also quite responsive. Combine that with the pocketed coils, and the Idle Sleep Hybrid has a great balance of comfort and support.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lbs – 230 lbs
Most average weight sleepers should really enjoy back sleeping on the Idle Sleep Hybrid mattress as it should allow their hips to sink and the foam to contour. Additionally, the Idle Hybrid is a great option for average weight stomach sleepers – it’s firm enough to give lots of support and spinal alignment. Moving to the side, the Idle Sleep Hybrid should give a decent amount of pressure relief, however, average weight side sleepers looking for a mattress with more pressure relief may want to look elsewhere.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lbs
The Idle Sleep Hybrid mattress may feel more firm (around a 7.5/10) to heavyweight sleepers who will sink deeper through the top comfort layer.
Heavyweight back sleepers should get just the right amount of support from the Idle Sleep Hybrid as their hips should sink and the mattress should conform to their body. Heavyweight stomach sleepers should feel even support across the entire body when sleeping on the Idle Sleep Hybrid. However, those who are much larger, in the 300 to 500 lb weight range, might need a more firm mattress.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lbs
Lightweight sleepers may not be as comfortable on the Idle Sleep Hybrid mattress. Lightweight back and side sleepers might find that the Idle Sleep Hybrid mattress feels too firm because they won’t be heavy enough to sink into the mattress and enjoy the pressure relief. However, the Idle Sleep Hybrid mattress should provide decent support for lightweight stomach sleepers.

Now that you know what it feels like to sleep on the Idle Sleep Hybrid mattress, let’s talk about the construction and what materials make up the mattress.
Cover
The soft cover is quilted with 1” of contouring foam. It also contains Thermocool fabric to help with temperature regulation.
Comfort Layers
For comfort, there is 2” of Idle Cooling Buoyancy Foam. Underneath, you will find a 1’’ foam transition layer.
Support Layer
The center of the mattress provides the most support. With 6” of pocketed coils, you should feel very secure when sleeping on the Idle Sleep Hybrid.
Since the Idle Sleep Hybrid mattress is flippable, the bottom of the Medium model will be identical to the top. There is a 1” foam transition layer followed by 2” of Idle Cooling Buoyancy Foam and the Thermocool cover quilted with contouring foam.
Mattress Height
The Idle Sleep Hybrid mattress is 14” tall. This is a taller-than-average mattress so be sure you check that the sheets you use will fit the bed–you may need to look for deep-pocketed sheets.

Sleeping Hot Or Cold
The Idle Sleep Hybrid should sleep quite cool because of the coils and Buoyancy Foam. The coils will promote airflow through the mattress, and the Idle Buoyancy Foam is more breathable than memory foam and should not trap too much heat.
Motion Transfer
To test out the motion transfer on the Idle Sleep Hybrid, I first placed a glass of water in the center of the mattress. I then pressed into the mattress all around the glass, and it was disturbed quite a bit. Also, I lay down on one side of the Idle Sleep Hybrid while Marten moved around on the other side and got in and out of bed. I did feel his movements transfer to my side of the bed. Those who need a mattress for couples should just keep these results in mind.
Edge Support
Sitting near the edge of the Idle Sleep Hybrid mattress, the foam on top collapses quite a bit, and I don’t feel extremely secure. When I lie down near the edge of the mattress, the edge collapses a bit, and I feel somewhat like I might roll off. Edge support really isn’t a highlight of the Idle Sleep Hybrid mattress.
Durability
The Idle Sleep Hybrid is very durable. The mattress is flippable, which seriously adds to the longevity of the mattress.
This is because sleepers can flip and rotate the mattress regularly and prevent premature sagging and indentations in the Idle Sleep Hybrid mattress. Many modern bed-in-a-box hybrid mattresses are not flippable, so they may not last as long at the Idle Sleep Hybrid.
Off-Gassing
You may notice a slight odor when unboxing your new Idle Sleep Hybrid mattress. No worries. Just give the mattress a few days for the foam to fully form and off-gas.
Noise
We didn’t notice any notable noise when testing the Idle Sleep Hybrid mattress. However, like any hybrid, you may notice some noise after many years of use because of the coils in the mattress.

First off, the Idle Sleep Hybrid mattress and the Purple mattress are different in terms of construction. The Idle Sleep Hybrid is thicker than the Purple, and it contains a combination of foam and coils.
