Bear Pro Hybrid Mattress Overview
The Bear mattresses are designed to promote deep sleep and recovery. The brand offers the all-foam Bear mattress as well as the Bear Star Hybrid and Bear Elite Hybrid. The Bear Pro Hybrid is the brand’s value hybrid option, but it doesn’t skimp on the features. With a cooling cover, cooling foams, and airflow-promoting coils, it’s made with hot sleepers in mind.
But, even if you don’t sleep hot, the Bear Pro Hybrid still has a lot to offer. Here is who I think the Bear Pro Hybrid is best for and who it might not be the best for.
Who Might Like The Bear Pro Hybrid? | Who Might Not Like The Bear Pro Hybrid? |
Back sleepers | Stomach sleepers |
Hot sleepers | Fans of memory foam mattresses |
Fans of bouncy mattresses | People who want a soft mattress |

Bear Pro Hybrid Mattress Firmness And Feel
Let’s take a look at how firm the Bear Pro Hybrid mattress is and whether or not it will work for your preferred sleeping position.
How Firm Is The Bear Pro Hybrid?
On our firmness scale of 1-10, the Bear Pro Hybrid scored a 7. This is just a tad firmer than 6.5/10, which is the industry standard for medium-firm.
The top layers are soft and pressure-relieving, but I could also feel the firmness and support of the coils and transition layer.
Sleeping On The Bear Pro Hybrid
Back sleeping was a dream on the Bear Pro Hybrid mattress. My hips sank into the top foam layers, but not too far. I also felt the coils supporting my body, and I never felt like my spine was out of alignment.
Side sleeping, I did feel a bit of pressure on my shoulders and hips. However, as I will get to below, some lighter sleepers might feel better pressure relief than I did.
Stomach sleeping, the Bear Pro Hybrid was not quite supportive enough for me. I needed some more support under my hips as they were bowing into the mattress. I could feel some strain in my lower back as well. Overall, stomach sleepers should find a firmer mattress overall.
What Does The Bear Pro Hybrid Mattress Feel Like?
While the Bear Pro Hybrid features memory foam, it does not have a memory foam feel. The mattress is bouncy and responsive, and I don’t sink in too far when I lie down. This makes it very easy to move around, but there isn’t much contouring to speak of.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb
Average weight back sleepers should feel a good balance of comfort and support on the Bear Pro Hybrid. Even those who weigh 230 lb should think the Bear Pro Hybrid is a good match.
Side sleepers at the lower end of this weight range should feel nice pressure relief as well. If you weigh closer to 230 lb, you could feel more pressure on your shoulders and hips.
Stomach sleepers who weigh closer to 130 should also get enough support on the Bear Pro Hybrid. However, if you weigh much more, you should seek out a firmer mattress.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb
The Bear Pro Hybrid isn’t made with larger people in mind. While some back sleepers could experience enough support, most will want to look at a mattress made for heavy people. Heavy side and stomach sleepers will definitely need a mattress made for them.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lb
Lightweight people should feel comfortable in all three sleeping positions while on the Bear Pro Hybrid. They should feel supported on their back and stomach while experiencing nice pressure relief when they are on their side.

Bear Pro Hybrid Mattress Performance
I ran the Bear Pro Hybrid through a few tests to see how cooling, comfortable, and durable it is. Let’s see how it did!
30-Minute Nap Test
While reviewing the Bear Pro Hybrid, I took a 30 minute nap to see how it performed. I felt most comfortable on my back and woke up in that position as well. I did not feel any initial aches and pains in my back, and it felt like I woke up in the same position I fell asleep in.
I tried to also nap on my side, but I woke up on my back. This just confirms that the Bear Pro Hybrid is good for back sleeping.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
The Bear Pro Hybrid is a cooler-sleeping mattress. It features a breathable cover, cooling infusions in its foam, and coils that promote airflow through the mattress. The Bear Pro Hybrid should not trap heat and make you overheat at night.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer is important to consider if you sleep with a partner. Motion transfer occurs when your partner rolls around on their side of the mattress, and you feel it on your side. Some mattresses isolate this motion, while others do not.
Unfortunately, the Bear Pro Hybrid is not the best at handling motion transfer. I experienced some transfer during my tests, so you and your partner may disturb one another when you move around at night.
Edge Support
Edge support is also something couples should keep in mind. A mattress with good edge support will allow both partners to sleep toward the edges of the mattress without falling off.
The Bear Pro Hybrid features some solid edge support, so you shouldn’t feel like you are going to roll off when you lie near the edge.
Durability
Based on its construction, the Bear Pro Hybrid is a durable mattress that should last for a good amount of time. With high-density foam and high-grade coils, it should last for at least 7-10 years.
Off-gassing
Off-gassing occurs when you unbox a new bed-in-a-box mattress and the trapped gasses escape. You may notice a slight chemical smell, but this is normal with online mattresses.
Unboxing the Bear Pro Hybrid, I noticed that familiar chemical smell, but it dissipated after 48 hours.
Noise
The Bear Pro Hybrid made no noise when I rolled around and changed positions. It is a very quiet mattress, but it might still start to squeak after you sleep on it for a number of years.
Sex
The best mattresses for sex are responsive and make it easy to move around and change positions. The Bear Pro Hybrid is indeed a responsive mattress, so sexual partners should have no issues getting stuck in the mattress.
