Zoma Hybrid Mattress Overview
The Zoma Hybrid mattress is, as the name suggests, a hybrid mattress. It features a proprietary zoned foam layer, responsive foam, and coils as well. It also boasts some interesting cooling features meant to keep athletes from overheating during the night.
As fans of the all-foam Zoma mattress, I was excited to try out the Zoma Hybrid mattress. The Zoma is one of the best mattresses for athletes, and I was hoping the Zoma Hybrid would be just as good. While I’m not the most athletic person, I enjoyed my experience on the Zoma Hybrid. I found it to be a better fit for some types of sleepers and not the best fit for others.
Pros of the Zoma Hybrid
- The Zoma Hybrid boasts several cooling features that make it a great fit for recovering athletes. It is made with a breathable mesh cover, gel-infused memory foam, and innerspring coil support system which all prevent heat from trapping within the mattress.
- This bed’s top comfort layer has zoned support for extra pressure-relief and body contouring for back and side sleepers.
- Its balanced foam feel combines the bounce of innerspring coils, responsive foam, and a layer of slow-moving memory foam on top. This makes the Zoma Hybrid easy to move around on.
Cons of the Zoma Hybrid
- Although this mattress is slightly firmer-than-average, it is not firm enough for most stomach sleepers. These sleepers require more support under their hips.
- The Zoma Hybrid’s balanced foam feel does not appeal to fans of a classic memory foam feel.
- This bed will not be supportive enough for sleepers who weigh close to 300 lb.
Zoma Hybrid Mattress Firmness And Feel
Firmness and feel are two of the first things I look at when I review a mattress. Let’s discuss how firm the Zoma Hybrid mattress is and how it will feel to average weight, heavyweight, and lightweight people.
How Firm Is The Zoma Hybrid Mattress?
In my experience, the Zoma mattress feels like a 7/10 and is a bit firmer-than-average. The top foam layers are quite soft, but the mattress does get firmer when I push in hard. Also, the mattress is zoned, so it is going to feel firmer or softer depending on what position someone is sleeping in. They might feel like the mattress is firmer while back and stomach sleeping and softer while side sleeping.
Sleeping On The Zoma Hybrid Mattress
Back sleeping on the Zoma mattress, I felt both comfortable and supported – the Triangulex foam is contouring to the curves of my body and the coils are offering great support. In addition, given that the mattress is zoned, it is providing us with extra lumbar support. My hips sank in just the right amount, while the rest of the mattress keeps my body elevated. Those who need the best mattress for back sleepers usually want to find something with this mix of comfort and support.
Side sleeping, the Zoma Hybrid mattress is not a bad match for me – the mattress is actually softer under my shoulders, and I felt decent pressure relief there. As I will discuss below, heavier sleepers might have a different experience on the Zoma Hybrid mattress.
Stomach sleeping, the Zoma Hybrid is not quite supportive enough for me. I felt my hips bowing into the mattress, and I do require some more overall support. Again, read below, as lightweight sleepers might have a different experience.
What Does The Zoma Hybrid Feel Like?
Overall, the Zoma Hybrid mattress has more of a balanced foam feel that is soft, comfortable, and responsive. While there is a bit of that slow-moving memory foam feel right on top of the mattress, the Zoma Hybrid is bouncier and makes it easy to move around and change positions.
Sleeper Weight | Back Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Stomach Sleepers |
Lightweight (Under 130 lb) | Excellent | Good | Good |
Average (130 – 230 lb) | Excellent | Good | Fair |
Heavyweight (Over 230 lb) | Good | Bad | Bad |
Is the Zoma Hybrid Mattress Good For Lightweight People (Under 130 lb)?
- Lightweight back sleepers will feel well supported by the Zoma Hybrid’s zoned memory foam and innerspring coil layers.
- Side sleeper who weigh under 130 lb should feel ample pressure relief from the softer areas of the zoned comfort layer around their shoulders and hips.
- Even lightweight stomach sleepers should feel enough support under their hips. Lightweight sleepers won’t compress its comfort layer much, so lightweight stomach sleepers should be able to find proper spinal alignment.
Is the Zoma Hybrid Mattress Good For Average Weight People (130 – 230 lb)?
- Average weight back sleepers should get a nice balance of comfort and support on the Zoma Hybrid mattress.
- Average weight side sleepers who are under 200 lb should get all the pressure relief they need on this mattress. If they are closer to 230 lb, they might press further into the mattress and feel some more pressure on their shoulders and hips.
- Stomach sleeping, those who are closer to 130 lb might feel supported, but those who are closer to 230 lb probably will not.
Is the Zoma Hybrid Mattress Good For Heavyweight People (Over 230 lb)?
- Heavyweight back sleepers who don’t weigh much over 230 lb should feel well supported on the Zoma Hybrid mattress. However, if they are closer to 300 lb, they might need to look at a mattress made just for heavy people.
- Side sleepers who weight over 230 lb are not going to be well-supported by the Zoma Hybrid. These sleepers are going to want to find a mattress with a thicker comfort layer.
- Heavyweight stomach sleepers will need a more supportive mattress altogether. They should look at our best mattresses for heavy people.
Zoma Hybrid Mattress Construction
Now, let’s see exactly what is going on inside the Zoma Hybrid mattress! I will look at each layer and discuss how it affects the overall feel and performance of the mattress.
Cover
The Zoma Hybrid features a mesh cover that is soft and extremely breathable; it is designed to allow air to flow through the very top of the mattress.
Comfort Layers
The top layer of the Zoma Hybrid mattress features Triangulex Gel Memory Foam which is proprietary to Zoma. It is zoned so that the center of the layer is firmer than the areas toward the head and foot. This is meant to make it feel more supportive while people are back and stomach sleeping and more pressure-relieving when they are side sleeping. It is also infused with gel and boasts air channels for more breathability.
Below that, there is a layer of proprietary Reactiv Foam that is bouncy and responsive. It adds some more comfort to the top of the mattress and also acts as a transition layer.
Support Layer
The Zoma Hybrid contains individually-wrapped coils in its support layer. They add, ahem, support to the mattress and also leave a good deal of room for airflow.
Mattress Height
The Zoma Hybrid mattress is 12″ tall.

Zoma Hybrid Mattress Performance
I ran the Zoma Hybrid mattress through a number of tests – I tested it for cooling, motion transfer, and edge support. Let’s see how it did!
Sleeping Hot Or Cold
As I said before, the Zoma Hybrid is designed with athletes in mind. Athletes who are just getting done with an intense workout should enjoy the cooling properties of the Zoma Hybrid mattress. The Triangulex foam is breathable and the zoning creates air channels at the top of the mattress. Put that together with the airflow-promoting coils, and this should be a cooler-sleeping mattress.
Motion Transfer
Any athletes who toss and turn at night might disturb their partner if their mattress doesn’t isolate that motion well. I’m happy to report that the Zoma Hybrid does cut down on motion transfer quite well. The Triangulex foam has that slow-moving feel, so it absorbs my motions and mostly keeps them isolated to one side of the mattress. Because of this, the Zoma Hybrid should be a good mattress for couples.
Edge Support
Couples also want to make sure that their mattress features solid edge support because this will allow both partners to have the most room possible. Sitting near the edge of the Zoma Hybrid mattress, it does collapse quite a bit but, when I am lying near the edge, I do feel secure. Couples should be able to sleep near the edges of the Zoma Hybrid mattress without feeling like they are going to fall off.
Durability
Durability is important to consider when shopping for a mattress. Shoppers want to make sure that they are spending their money on something that is going to last for a number of years. Looking at the materials and overall design of the Zoma Hybrid mattress, I believe it should last for at least seven years.
Off-gassing
The Zoma Hybrid is a bed in a box mattress so, when it comes out of the box, it is normal to expect some off-gassing. When I took the Zoma Hybrid out of the box and unwrapped it, I did notice that normal chemical smell. However, after 48 hours, this smell had completely dissipated.
Noise
Those athletes who toss and turn at night are going to want a mattress that doesn’t make too much noise. When I moved around on the Zoma Hybrid, the mattress made barely any noise at all. However, because the mattress contains coils, it is possible the mattress could start to squeak and creak after many years of use.
Sex
While the Zoma Hybrid mattress does have a slow-moving feel right on top it is, overall, more of a bouncy responsive mattress. This is good news for couples who want the best mattress for sex. The Zoma Hybrid should make it easy for them to move around and change positions during those intimate moments.
Zoma Company Policies
Whenever you’re buying a new mattress, it’s key to look at the fine print to know what to expect from the brand you’re shopping from. Let’s take a look at Zoma’s key company policies.
Warranty Info
The Zoma Hybrid mattress comes with a 10-year warranty. This warranty covers structural defects, but not gradual softening of its foam comfort layers. The mattress must be supported by a proper foundation or box spring to be covered by warranty.
Sleep Trial
The Zoma Hybrid comes with a 100-night sleep trial. Zoma recommends customers should test their mattress for at least 30 days before initiating a return.
Return Policy
If you decide within the trial period that the Zoma Hybrid is not a fit for you, you can return the mattress for free if you live within the continental US. However, if you choose to return your Zoma Hybrid before testing it for 30 days, you will be charged with a $99 processing fee.
Common Zoma Hybrid Complaints
While reviews for the Zoma Hybrid are overwhelmingly positive, a few customers were not satisfied with the bed’s firmness level. Some sleepers found the mattress to be too soft, and some found it to be too firm. Firmness is subjective depending on a person’s body type and sleep position.
Those that found the Zoma Hybrid too firm tended to be side sleepers looking for extra pressure relief. Those who found the Zoma Hybrid too soft tended to be athletes used to sleeping on a firmer mattress. Zoma recommended customers test the mattress for at least 30 days for their bodies to adjust to any changes in firmness levels that they were not used to.

Bear Pro Hybrid MattressFirmness
Medium-firm: 6.5/10Score
Like the Zoma Hybrid, the Bear Pro is designed with athletes in mind. That being said, it does feature a different construction than the Zoma Hybrid. While the Zoma Hybrid is a hybrid mattress with coils, the Bear Pro features base foam in its support layer. Also, it does not feature zoning, but the Zoma Hybrid does.
Both mattresses have a very similar balanced foam feel, but the Zoma Hybrid has a bit more bounce due to the coils. The mattresses are also similar in terms of firmness and price as well!
It’s easy to see that the Zoma Hybrid and Bear Pro are very similar mattresses. This means it might be difficult to choose between them. I would recommend the Zoma Hybrid to back sleepers who require more lumbar support (because of the zoning). Also, the coils leave more room for airflow, so it could be a better match for hot sleepers. I felt a bit better pressure relief on the Bear Pro, so it might be the better option for side sleepers.

The Brooklyn Bedding Propel is another mattress designed specifically for athletes. It is quite similar to the Zoma Hybrid in a number of ways. It features coils in the support layer and pressure-relieving foam in the comfort layer. However, it does not feature zoning like the Zoma Hybrid mattress.
The Brooklyn Bedding Propel and the Zoma Hybrid have a similar balanced foam feel that makes it easy to move around on the mattresses. I did find the Zoma Hybrid to be firmer than the Brooklyn Bedding Propel mattress. Also, the Propel is more affordable than the Zoma Hybrid mattress.
Based on these differences, the Zoma Hybrid should be a better match for back sleepers and those who need more support. The Propel should work better for side sleepers and those who want to spend less money on their mattress.
