Helix Midnight Mattress Video Review
Helix Midnight Mattress Overview
Helix Sleep is all about offering options and flexibility; the company sells six core mattress models, and each one ranges in firmness and feel. If you want something particularly luxurious, you can upgrade to a Luxe or Elite mattress.
The Helix Midnight has a medium-firmness level and a balanced feel. This makes it a good middle-of-the-road match for many different types of sleepers.
Pros of the Helix Midnight Mattress
- It works well for back sleepers who require a good balance of comfort and support.
- The coils promote airflow and help dissipate body heat, making it a great cooling mattress.
- It has a balanced foam feel. You’ll get plenty of pressure relief on this mattress, but you won’t “sink inside” the layers or have difficulty moving around on top of the bed.
- Because it has a medium-firm feel, it helps sleepers maintain the correct spinal alignment throughout the night. This makes it one of the best orthopedic mattresses.
Cons of the Helix Midnight Mattress
- Most stomach sleepers won’t get enough support on the Helix Midnight mattress. If you fall in this category, you may want to consider getting the Helix Dawn instead.
- Heavier side sleepers may need more pressure relief and could benefit from the Helix Midnight Elite mattress.
- Fans of plush and slow-moving mattresses will want to look elsewhere.

Helix Midnight Mattress Firmness And Feel
One of the great things about Helix is that they offer mattresses in a wide range of firmnesses levels. Keep reading to see where the Helix Midnight falls and if it will be a good fit for your preferred sleeping position. Also, see it how it stacks up to other brands with our Helix mattress comparisons.
How Firm Is The Helix Midnight?
The Helix Midnight feels like a 7/10 on the firmness scale, which is a half point firmer than the industry standard of medium-firm. The comfort layers feel plush and soft, while the coils offer support. Combined, these layers make the mattress feel slightly firmer than average.
Sleeping On The Helix Midnight
I tested the Helix Midnight mattress in all three sleeping positions. Starting off back sleeping, I thought the Helix Midnight was a fantastic match. The top layer of Memory Plus Foam conformed to my body and let me sink a bit, while the individually-wrapped coils offered support.
Side sleeping, the Helix Midnight mattress was not a bad match. That said, I did feel a bit of pressure along my shoulder and hip. If you sleep primarily on your side, you might want to take a look at one of Helix’s softer mattress models, such as the Helix Sunset.
When I rested on my stomach, the Helix Midnight mattress was too soft for me. I could feel my hips dipping down into the mattress, and over time, I would probably develop some lower back pain.
What Does The Helix Midnight Mattress Feel Like?
The Helix Midnight mattress has a balanced foam feel. The Memory Plus Foam feels slow-moving, the coils make the mattress feel slightly bouncy and responsive.
Sleeper Weight | Back Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Stomach Sleepers |
Lightweight (Under 130 lb) | Excellent | Excellent | Excellent |
Average (130 – 230 lb) | Excellent | Excellent | Fair |
Heavyweight (Over 230 lb) | Good | Fair | Bad |
Is the Helix Midnight Mattress Good For Lightweight People (Under 130 lb)?
- It’s a great match for lightweight back sleepers. The Helix Midnight mattress offers ample lumbar support and plenty of cushioning.
- This mattress also works well for lightweight side sleepers, thanks to its plush, pressure-relieving foam.
- Lightweight stomach sleepers won’t compress the top layer too much, so they should get plenty of support on the Helix Midnight mattress.
Is the Helix Midnight Mattress Good For Average Weight People (130 – 230 lb)?
- Back sleepers who weigh between 130 and 230 lb should feel a nice balance of comfort and support on the Helix Midnight mattress.
- Average weight side sleepers should feel some nice pressure relief on this mattress.
- Average weight stomach sleepers will likely feel their hips sinking out of alignment, which can cause lower back pain.
Is the Helix Midnight Mattress Good For Heavyweight People (Over 230 lb)?
- It’s a good option for back sleepers who weigh less than 300 lb, but heavier people may need a more supportive mattress.
- Heavyweight side sleepers may compress the foam layers a bit, which can put additional pressure along shoulders and hips. If you fall in this category, you may want to consider getting one of the best mattresses for heavy people.
- Heavyweight stomach sleepers won’t get enough hip support on this mattress. It’s very possible that people in this category will develop lower back pain.
Helix Midnight Mattress Construction
Let’s pop the hood on the Helix Midnight mattress and see exactly how it works. I’ll look at each layer and explain how it affects the overall performance of the mattress.
Cover
The Helix Midnight has a stretchy Breathe Knit cover that feels breathable and soft. Customers also have the option to upgrade to the GlacioTexâ„¢ Cooling Pillow Top, which feels cool to the touch.
If you need more cushioning, you may want to add the GlacioTexâ„¢ cover and Pillow Top bundle. This gives the mattress a more luxurious feel, like what you’ll find at five-star hotels.
Comfort Layers
On top of the Helix Midnight, there is a layer of the brand’s proprietary Memory Plus Foam. This material exhibits that slow-moving feel many expect from memory foam. It also helps alleviate joint pain, making this one of the best mattresses for fibromyalgia and one of the best mattresses for arthritis.
Beneath this, there’s a layer of Helix Responsive Foam, which offers more body contouring and pressure relief.
Below that, there is a thinner layer of Helix Responsive Foam. This acts as a transition layer and helps prevent sleepers from “bottoming out” on the mattress.
Support Layer
The Helix Midnight contains up to 1,000 individually wrapped coils in its support layer. They add support and help promote airflow through the mattress. These rest on a thin layer of high-density DuraDense Foam.
Mattress Height
The Helix Midnight mattress is 12″ thick which is average-size for a hybrid.

Helix Midnight Mattress Performance
There are many other things you should consider when shopping for a new mattress. For instance, will the mattress make you overheat at night, and how does it handle motion transfer? Well, I’m here to answer all of those questions and many others.
Sleeping Hot Or Cold
The Helix Midnight is a cooling mattress, thanks to its breathable cover and airflow-promoting coils. However, if you are a particularly hot sleeper, you may opt for the GlacioTexâ„¢ Cooling Pillow Top or get the ultra-cooling Helix Midnight Elite mattress.
Motion Transfer
The Helix Midnight mattress handles motion transfer quite well for a hybrid mattress. With its layer of Memory Plus Foam on top, it prevents too much motion from transferring between each side of the mattress. If you need a mattress for couples, the Helix Midnight could be a good option.
Edge Support
The Helix Midnight also boasts some impressive edge support. I felt secure while sitting and lying down near the edge of the mattress. Again, couples take note: Each partner should be able to sleep toward the edge without rolling off.
Durability
Looking at its materials and overall construction, the Helix Midnight does appear to be a durable mattress. It really depends on your size and how often you use the mattress, but we expect it to last between seven and 10 years.
Off-gassing
The Helix Midnight is a bed-in-a-box mattress and, after unboxing, there was definitely some off-gassing. This slight chemical smell is to be expected from a foam hybrid like the Midnight, and the smell dissipated after 48 hours.
Noise
Moving around on the Helix Midnight, I did notice some slight creaking and squeaking from the coils. It was not very loud, and I did not wake up in the middle of the night because of these sounds.
Sex
The Helix Midnight could be a good mattress for sex, as it is bouncy and responsive. This should make it easier for partners to move around and change positions.
Helix Company Policies
Now I’ll explain Helix’s company policies–it’s always smart to read the fine print before purchasing.
Warranty
The Helix Midnight mattress comes with a 10-year limited warranty that covers manufacturing defects.
Sleep Trial
The Helix Midnight comes with a 100-night sleep trial. During this time, you can sleep on the mattress and try it out to see if it’s a good fit for you.
Return Policy
If you decide you don’t like the Helix Midnight mattress, you can return it for a full refund during your 100-night sleep trial. However, because it takes time to break in a new mattress, Helix asks that customers try the mattress for 30 days before initiating a return.
Common Helix Mattress Complaints
One of the most common complaints about the Helix Midnight mattress relates to customer service and delivery. Many people said it took a long time to receive their mattress.
Another common complaint has to do with the mattress’s firmness level. Some customers complained about their Helix mattress feeling either too soft or too firm. In these cases, Helix offered to send customers a mattress topper in order to adjust the bed’s overall firmness and feel.
How Does The Helix Midnight Compare to Others?
Now I’ll compare the Helix Midnight mattress to other popular options: The Helix Moonlight and the Nectar Classic Hybrid.

Helix offers several different hybrid mattresses, one of which is the Helix Moonlight. When it comes to the construction, the Midnight and Moonlight mattresses are fairly similar. Both include a breathable soft touch cover and a support layer of individually-wrapped coils. The major difference in construction is in the comfort layers.
The comfort layer in the Midnight mattress features Memory Plus Foam and a thin layer of responsive foam. The comfort layer in the Moonlight mattress contains Helix Dynamic Foam, a latex foam alternative. This difference makes the Helix Moonlight mattress feel softer than the Helix Midnight.

Both mattresses contain coils and foam, but they feel quite different. The Nectar mattress has a thick layer of slow-moving foam on top, so it feels softer than the Helix Midnight. The Nectar Hybrid also feels more plush, making it an excellent choice for side sleepers who need lots of pressure relief.
Both mattresses help dissipate body heat, but the Nectar Hybrid sleeps a bit cooler thanks to its gel-infused foam. Gel helps pull heat away from the body and keep sleepers cool throughout the night.
Both mattresses have a similar price point, but the Helix Midnight mattress comes with more customization options.
