Sealy Posturepedic Mattress Firmness and Feel

When we review mattresses, we always examine firmness and feel. These two elements can help people quickly determine whether a mattress will work well for them.

How Firm Is The Sealy Posturepedic?

On our firmness scale, the Posturepedic Hybrid feels like a 6/10, which is slightly softer than average. For reference, 6.5/10 represents the industry standard of medium-firm.

Sleeping On The Sealy Posturepedic

Generally, the Sealy Posturepedic works best for back and side sleepers. The top layers offer plenty of pressure relief, while the strong coil system helps support the spine. It’s important to note that lightweight sleepers may not compress the comfort layers too much, which can cause them to feel some pressure along shoulders and hips.

Stomach sleepers will think this mattress feels too soft. If you primarily rest in this sleeping position, you’ll want to opt for the firm model. This will help you maintain the proper spinal alignment.

What Does The Sealy Posturepedic Feel Like?

Because it’s made with foam and coils, the bed has a balanced hybrid feel. When you press into the top layers, the material will slowly snap back into place. But it’s still quite easy to move around on the mattress, thanks to the strong coils in the support layer.

Average Weight Sleepers: 130 lb–230 lb

Average weight back sleepers should find the soft model of the Posturepedic Hybrid is a good pick. It’s slightly softer than average, but it still offers a good balance of comfort and support.

Side sleepers should also find the Posturepedic works quite well. The soft feel helps alleviate pressure along shoulders and hips.

Average weight stomach sleepers won’t get the proper support on the soft model. Instead, they should opt for the firm model.

Heavyweight Sleepers: Over 230 lb

Heavier back sleepers should compress the comfort layer quite a bit, so they may not get the lumbar support they need on the soft model.

Heavier side sleepers should also feel excellent cushioning and support on the Posturepedic. Those who weigh closer to 300 lb, though, might bottom out on the comfort layers and feel more of the support coils underneath. People in this category will benefit from getting one of the best mattresses for heavy people.

Larger stomach sleepers will also think the soft model isn’t supportive enough. The firm model might be supportive enough for some stomach sleepers, but most heavyweight stomach sleepers will prefer one of the best firm mattresses

Lightweight Sleepers: Under 130 lb

Because they won’t compress the foam layers too much, lightweight sleepers might think the Posturepedic Hybrid feels a bit firmer than average. Even so, smaller back sleepers should feel the Posturepedic Hybrid is a great match.

Some lightweight side sleepers may not get the pressure relief they need, but stomach sleepers will get the necessary support.

Sealy Posturepedic Mattress Construction

Now, let’s peel back the fitted sheet and learn more about the Sealy Posturepedic’s construction.

Layer

Description

Cover

Around the mattress you’ll find the Sealy Stretch Knit cover. It’s infused with Sealy Chill Technology to help keep the surface of the bed cool. It also features Surface Guard Technology, an antimicrobial protective layer that helps the mattress stay fresh and clean.

Comfort layer #1

The first main comfort layer is made out of Sealy’s ComfortSense Gel memory foam. This material creates plenty of body contouring and pressure relief.

Comfort layer #2

Next, you’ll find SealySupport Gel Foam. This dense material acts as a transition layer before you reach the coils underneath.

Support Layer

For support, the Posturepedic has a row of Response Pro Encased coils. In addition to making the bed feel more stable, these springs give the bed a classic bouncy feel.

Around the sides, Sealy added their DuraFlex coil edge. These help the bed stay durable and strong, all while advancing its edge support.

Mattress Height

The Posturepedic Hybrid is 13” tall, but their other hybrid models are 14” tall.

Sealy Posturepedic Mattress Performance

Now that we know more about the bed’s firmness, feel and construction, it’s time to investigate its performance features. Keep reading to learn more about the Posturepedic’s cooling elements, motion isolation, edge support, and more.

Sleeping Hot or Cold

Because the mattress has cooling fibers in its cover and gel inside the comfort layers, it sleeps quite cool at night. Plus, the Posturepedic Hybrid has coils at the bottom, which promotes airflow and breathability.

Motion Transfer

Even though it’s a hybrid mattress, the Posturepedic isolates motion well. If you share a bed with a partner, you shouldn’t notice them shifting sleeping positions in the night. The memory foam comfort layers help absorb that movement, so you can rest peacefully and unbothered.

Edge Support

The Posturepedic also has stellar edge support, thanks to its DuraFlex coil edge. If you sit or rest near the side of the bed, you should feel stable and secure.

Sealy Posturepedic Edge Support

Durability

The Sealy Posturepedic is made with high-quality foams and sturdy coils, so you shouldn’t worry about it sagging over time. We expect it to last at least 10 years.

Off-Gassing

When you unbox a brand new mattress, you might notice a slight chemical smell at first. However, because the Sealy Posturepedic isn’t a bed-in-a-box, this won’t be an issue at all. You can sleep on this comfy bed right away!

Plus, the bed is CertiPUR-US certified, so you can rest easy knowing the foams are 100 percent safe.

Noise

When testing the Posturepedic, we didn’t notice any significant noise. It’s possible, however, that the coils could squeak over time.

Sex

Couples looking for the best mattress for sex typically look for a few things: responsiveness and ease of motion. The Sealy Posturepedic has coils at the bottom, so it’s slightly bouncy. It’s still quite easy to move around on this bed.

Company Policies

Before pulling out your wallet, it’s always a good idea to read the fine print. Below, we’ve outlined Sealy’s warranty information, sleep trial period, return policy, and more.

Warranty Info

The Sealy Posturepedic is backed by a 10-year warranty.

Sleep Trial

If you order through their website, Sealy mattresses come with a 90-night sleep trial period.

Return Policy

If you aren’t happy with your mattress during the initial sleep trial period, you can return the mattress for a full refund.

Please note: this is true if you purchase through Sealy’s website. Other retailers may have different return policies and sleep trial periods.

Common Sealy Posturepedic Mattress Complaints

While there are many positive reviews, some disgruntled customers left negative feedback. A few people found the mattress too soft and didn’t think it provided the right amount of support. Make sure to thoroughly read our section about sleeping positions and body types. This will help you determine whether the bed will work well for you.

A few customers noted that they had difficulty returning their product after they bought it from Amazon. We’ve had great interactions with Sealy’s customer service team. We recommend shoppers purchase from their website in order to take full advantage of the sleep trial period and return policy.

How Does the Sealy Posturepedic Compare to Other Mattresses?

With so many different types of mattresses out there, you’ll want to make sure to weigh your options. Now, we’ll see how the Sealy Posturepedic compares to other mattress models.

Head over to our mattress comparisons page for even more in-depth information.

Sealy vs TEMPUR-Pedic

While they’re both popular brands, Sealy and TEMPUR-Pedic have many differences. The TEMPUR-Cloud mattress is made entirely out of foam, and it has a plush, slow-moving feel. Heavier people will think it feels super soft, and they’ll get lots of pressure relief. Lightweight people, however, may think the mattress is too firm.

A man sleeps on his side on the Tempur-Cloud

The Sealy Posturepedic mattress is available in all-foam and hybrid models. The hybrid model features strong coils at the bottom and soft foam on top. It has a medium-firm feel, so it works well for most back and side sleepers.

The Sealy Posturepedic also has better cooling technology. But, if you prefer to purchase a mattress that arrives compressed inside a cardboard box, the TEMPUR-Cloud is the way to go.

Sealy vs Casper

Sealy and Casper have many differences. Most notably, Casper is a bed-in-a-box brand that primarily sells mattresses online. While you can buy a Sealy online, it’s also widely available at traditional big box stores.

Sealy Posturepedic hybrid mattresses feature coils and memory foam. Casper, on the other hand, has a few unique features. First, his mattress contains AirScape foam. This ultra breathable material has tiny holes throughout, making it extra cool and breathable. Second of all, Casper has a zoned support system. This means it feels firmer in some areas and softer in others, creating optimal support.

Both mattresses have different models and firmnesses available. They also give customers the option to purchase luxury add-ons and accessories.

FAQs

Before wrapping up, we’ll answer some of the most frequently asked questions about the Sealy Posturepedic mattress.

Is Sealy Posturepedic firm?

This depends! There are many firm models available, but many of their beds feel medium firm. The Posturepedic Hybrid, which we reviewed above, comes right in at the industry standard firmness level. This makes it a great choice for most back and side sleepers.

Is Sealy Posturepedic a foam mattress?

Again, this depends on which bed you purchase. The hybrid mattresses, like the one reviewed above, features coils and foam. However, memory foam mattresses are also available.

Can you flip a Sealy Posturepedic mattress?

No, this is not a flippable mattress. These beds are designed with support layers at the bottom and comfort layers on top. If you flip it, the mattress won’t feel quite right.
