Gravity Ice Hybrid Mattress Firmness and Feel
First things first — let’s examine the Gravity Ice Hybrid’s firmness and feel. That way, you can quickly understand whether or not it’s a good fit for your sleep needs.
How Firm is the Gravity Ice Hybrid?
Here at Mattress Clarity, we rate mattresses on a 1-10 firmness scale. The industry standard for medium-firm mattresses falls at 6.5/10. The Gravity Ice Hybrid mattress feels slightly firmer than average, coming in at 7/10.
Sleeping On The Gravity Ice Hybrid
Thanks to its classic hybrid construction, the Gravity Ice Hybrid works well for most back and side sleepers. The strong coils create plenty of support, while the slow-moving foam provides pressure relief.
Even though this mattress feels firmer than average, it’s not quite supportive enough for stomach sleepers. In this sleeping position, you’ll likely feel your hips sink into the top layers. This might not cause any issues in the short term, but it could lead to lower back pain in the long run.
What Does the Gravity Ice Hybrid Feel Like?
This isn’t your typical innerspring mattress. Yes, the coils give the mattress some bounce, but the foam feels especially slow-moving. When you rest on top of this mattress, you’ll gently compress the top layers.
But unlike many memory foam mattresses, you won’t feel like you’re sinking through the mattress. The supportive coils make the mattress feel slightly responsive, so you can easily switch sleeping positions and move around on top of this bed.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb
If you weigh between 130 and 230 lb, the Gravity Ice Hybrid might work well. Back sleepers in this weight category should notice a great balance of comfort and support. Side sleepers will also get the necessary pressure relief.
Average-weight stomach sleepers, however, might find this mattress too soft. If this is your preferred sleeping position, we recommend looking for one of the best mattresses for stomach sleepers.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb
Because heavier people will compress the comfort foam quite a bit, they might find the Gravity Ice Hybrid slightly firmer than our 7/10 rating. That said, this mattress should still provide the necessary support while back sleeping.
Heavier side sleepers might not get the pressure relief they need, especially along their shoulders and hips. Also, stomach sleepers may not want to choose this mattress because it isn’t quite firm enough. If you fall in one of these categories, consider buying one of the best mattresses for heavy people.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lb
On the Gravity Ice Hybrid, lightweight sleepers should feel comfortable in all three sleeping positions. People who weigh less than 130 lb won’t sink into the comfort layers, so they won’t notice the innersprings as much. Instead, they’ll just feel the slow-moving memory foam, which offers both pressure relief and support.
Gravity Ice Hybrid Mattress Construction
Like its blankets, Gravity’s mattress has some impressive features. Let’s see what its construction is all about.
Cover
True to its name, the Gravity Ice Hybrid has a cool-to-the-touch cover. It feels slick, just like ice, and it helps lower your overall body temperature.
Comfort Layer
Underneath the cover sits a layer of cooling gel memory foam. This material gently cradles the body and provides plenty of pressure point relief. The gel helps dissipate body heat, so you can definitely snuggle up with a Gravity blanket if you crave that cozy warmth.
Support Layer
The supportive pocketed coils make the mattress feel slightly bouncy and responsive. But that’s not the only benefit! This support layer also has plenty of room for airflow, which keeps the mattress cool and breathable.

Gravity Ice Hybrid Mattress Performance
The Gravity Ice Hybrid contains impressive materials, but that means nothing if it doesn’t perform well. Let’s see how it ranks in terms of cooling, motion isolation, edge support, and more.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
They don’t call it the Gravity Ice Hybrid for nothing. In fact, this mattress sleeps extremely cool. If you tend to overheat at night, the icy cover should help lower your body temperature. And with its cooling gel foam and breathable coils, you should feel comfortable all night long.
Motion Transfer
If you share a bed with a partner, chances are, you’ve felt them shift around next to you at night. Some beds isolate motion better than others, so let’s examine how the Gravity Ice handles movement.
In our tests, we found this mattress isolates motion better than most hybrid mattresses. Because it has a thick layer of foam on top, the bed absorbs movement and keeps it contained to a small area. Light sleepers might notice a bit of movement if their partner shifts around during the night, but overall, we think this is a great mattress for couples.
Edge Support
Edge support also plays a big part in whether a mattress works well for couples. If the sides sink in, you can’t utilize the full surface area of the bed.
The Gravity Ice Hybrid has decent edge support overall. We noticed a bit of sinkage whenever we sat near the side, but it remained fairly secure. It’s important to note, though, that this mattress has a slick and slippery cover. If you don’t put a fitted sheet around it, you may feel yourself sliding off the edge.
Durability
The Gravity Ice Hybrid contains high-quality and durable materials, so we expect it to last the full length of its 10-year warranty.
Off-Gassing
When you unbox a new mattress, it’s common to smell a faint chemical odor at first. We call this off-gassing, and it occurred when we opened the Gravity Ice Hybrid.
This is normal for online mattresses, however, and the smell completely faded after 48 hours.
Noise
When we tested the Gravity Ice Hybrid, we didn’t notice any noise. It’s possible the coils could squeak as time goes on, but we don’t anticipate that growing into a significant issue.
Sex
Partners looking for one of the best mattresses for sex gravitate toward bouncy and responsive beds. That said, the Gravity Ice Hybrid should be a solid choice. The memory foam layers feel plush and slow moving, but the coils give it a bit of bounce. You shouldn’t feel trapped or stuck inside this mattress.
Company Policies
When shopping for a new mattress, it’s always a good idea to fully understand the company policies. That’s why we outlined Gravity’s warranty, sleep trial, and return policy for you below.
Warranty Info
The Gravity Ice Hybrid is backed by a 10-year warranty.
Sleep Trial
Thanks to the 100-night sleep trial period, you have plenty of time to test out the mattress from the comfort of your own home.
Return Policy
If you decide the Gravity Ice Hybrid isn’t for you, don’t stress! You can issue a return and receive a full refund as long as it’s within the 100-day trial period.
Common Gravity Ice Hybrid Mattress Complaints
As a fairly new mattress, there aren’t many negative reviews online. However, it’s possible that some customers won’t like the slick and icy cover. It feels especially slippery, so you’ll want to put a high-quality mattress cover on top of it.
How Does The Gravity Ice Hybrid Compare To Other Mattresses?
We understand that the mattress shopping process feels overwhelming at times. That said, it’s still a good idea to weigh your options. To make the experience easier, we compared the Gravity Ice Hybrid to two other popular online models, the Casper and Purple.
Gravity Ice Hybrid vs. Casper
The Original Casper mattress is an all-foam bed, however, Casper also sells hybrid models with innersprings. For the purpose of this comparison, we’ll focus specifically on Casper’s hybrid mattress.
The Casper and Gravity mattresses have the same firmness level: 7/10. The most notable difference between the two, however, is its support. Casper has a zoned support system, which means it feels firmer toward the center and softer near the head and foot. This unique feature makes it one of the best mattresses for back pain, because it helps people maintain the correct spinal alignment throughout the night.
Both mattresses have impressive cooling features, but the Gravity’s icy cover gives it a slight advantage. If you’re especially concerned about overheating, we recommend the Gravity.
When it comes to price, the Gravity has a much lower price point. It’s important to note, though, that the Gravity Ice Hybrid is only available in Full, Queen, and King sizes.
Who Should Get The Gravity Ice Hybrid?
- Especially hot sleepers
- People who want to save money
Who Should Get The Casper?
- Those who suffer from back pain
- People who want a mattress with more high-end features.

Gravity Ice Hybrid Vs. Purple
While they’re both popular brands, Purple and Gravity have many differences. Purple mattresses contain the company’s proprietary gel grid, a material that feels both squishy and firm at the same time. Due to its unique makeup, this comfort layer works best for heavier people. Lightweight sleepers don’t compress the grid as much, so the bed feels firmer overall.
The Gravity Ice Hybrid mattress works exceptionally well for lightweight sleepers, though. The cooling gel memory foam creates support and body contouring, so no matter the sleeping position, lightweight people should feel comfortable.
Because the Purple mattress contains an impressive polymer grid, they cost more than the Gravity.
Who Should Get The Gravity Ice Hybrid?
- Lightweight sleepers
- People who prefer classic hybrid mattresses
Who Should Get The Purple Mattress?
- Heavier people
- Those who want a mattress with a unique feel

No, this isn’t a flippable mattress. For the best sleep experience, you’ll want to place the support layers on the bottom and the comfort layers on the top.
