Mend Renew Mattress Firmness and Feel
When testing mattresses, we always closely examine its firmness and feel. Let’s see what the Mend Renew is all about!
How Firm is the Mend Renew?
Here at Mattress Clarity, we rate mattresses using our firmness scale. It ranges from 1-10, with 6.5 representing the industry standard for medium firm mattresses.
The Mend Renew just happens to fall exactly in the medium firm range! Coming in at 6.5/10, this bed creates a great balance of comfort and support.
Sleeping On The Mend Renew
Thanks to its construction, the Mend Renew works well for both back and side sleepers. The plush comfort layers offer plenty of pressure relief, while the coils provide the necessary support.
The Mend Renew mattress doesn’t work especially well for most stomach sleepers, though. People who rest in this sleeping position need beds that feel extremely supportive. Otherwise, their hips may sink out of alignment, which can lead to lower back pain. Take a look at our list of the best mattresses for stomach sleepers for some better recommendations.
What Does the Mend Renew Feel Like?
The Mend Renew feels like most hybrid mattresses: bouncy, supportive, and responsive. You won’t sink into this bed like you might on many memory foam mattresses.
Average Weight Sleepers – 130lbs – 230 lb
Average weight sleepers should feel quite comfortable while resting on their backs and sides. The Mend Renew mattress feels both comfy and supportive, so it should help average weight people maintain the correct spinal alignment.
However, The Mend Renew mattress won’t provide enough support for most average weight stomach sleepers. This mattress has a classic medium firm feel, so stomach sleepers’ hips might sink into the top layer a bit. This causes the hips to sink out of alignment and can lead to lower back pain over time. If this is your preferred sleeping position, we recommend purchasing a firm mattress.
Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb
The Mend Renew mattress also works well for many heavyweight people. Those who weigh between 230 lb and 300 lb should get the necessary comfort and support while back and side sleeping. People who weigh more than 300 lb, however, may need a more supportive mattress. Check out our list of the best mattresses for heavy people for some great picks.
Heavyweight stomach sleepers should also look elsewhere for a mattress. The Mend Renew isn’t quite firm enough to support the hips, so it may cause back pain.
Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lb
Lightweight sleepers should feel comfortable on the Mend Renew mattress, no matter the sleeping position. Thanks to its medium firm feel, this mattress should create both comfort and support for people who weigh less than 130 lb.
Mend Renew Mattress Construction
To fully understand the Mend Renew mattress, we’ll need to take a look at what it’s made of! Keep reading to learn more about its construction.
Mattress Height
The Mend Renew mattress is 11” tall.
Cover
This mattress has a plush pillow top quilted with foam. The cover is made with TENCEL, a fabric that feels especially soft and breathable.
Comfort Layer
The Mend Renew’s comfort layer is made out of gel memory foam. This material feels more responsive than traditional memory foam. While you’ll still get plenty of pressure relief, you won’t feel yourself sinking into the bed.
Plus, the gel memory foam doesn’t trap heat like many other foams do. The gel helps disperse body heat, and the open-celled construction keeps the mattress cool and breathable .
Support Layer
The Mend Renew mattress has a pocketed coil system, which gives it plenty of support. These springs also create room for airflow, so you shouldn’t worry about overheating at night.

Mend Renew Mattress Performance
Firmness, feel, and construction aren’t the only important elements to consider. We also need to know how the mattress performs. We put the Mend Sleep mattress through a series of tests to determine its motion transfer, edge support, and more.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
Thanks to its hybrid construction, gel infusions, and open-celled memory foam, the Mend Renew should not trap body heat. If you’re a hot sleeper, this mattress should help you feel cool and comfortable throughout the night.

Motion Transfer
Motion transfer is an especially important thing for couples to consider. If a bed doesn’t isolate motion well, you could wake up every time your partner shifts sleeping positions in the night.
Thanks to its thick foam layer, the Mend Renew has better motion isolation than most hybrid mattresses. However, the coils at the bottom do create a bit of movement. If you’re an especially light sleeper, you might want to purchase an all-foam mattress instead.
Edge Support
Couples should also take edge support into consideration. If a mattress caves in near the sides, you won’t be able to rest on the entire bed.
But that shouldn’t be an issue at all with the Mend Renew! This mattress has excellent edge support, thanks to its sturdy support layer.
Durability
The Mend Renew Mattress contains many high-quality materials, such as individually wrapped coils and gel memory foam. For that reason, we expect it to last about a decade – three years longer than most online mattresses.
Off-Gassing
We noticed a slight chemical smell whenever we first unboxed the Mend Renew mattress, which is common for bed-in-a-box brands. However, the odor completely faded away after 48 hours.
Noise
We didn’t notice any noise when we tested the Mend Renew mattress, though it’s possible the coils could begin to squeak as time goes on.
Sex
Sexual partners typically want mattresses that are especially easy to move around on, and the Mend Renew fits the bill. The springy coils and responsive memory foam make it easy for people to switch positions on top of the mattress.

How Does The Mend Renew Compare To Other Mattresses?
There are so many mattress companies out there, and we’ve tested most of them! Let’s see how the Mend Renew compares to two other popular mattresses, the Nectar and Saatva.
Mend Renew Vs. Nectar Mattress
Both of these mattresses have a medium firm feel and work well for side sleepers, but they have many notable differences. The Nectar mattress has a traditional slow-moving memory foam feel. When you rest on it, you’ll gently sink into the foam layers.
The Mend Renew also contours the body, but it’s not as slow-moving as the Nectar. The Mend mattress has coils for support, giving it a bouncy feel. The Nectar, on the other hand, has a support layer made out of high-density foam. This means it’s not as responsive as the Mend mattress, and it’s a little bit more difficult to move around on top of it.
These two mattresses have similar price points, and they should both last about 10 years.
Who Should Get The Mend Renew Mattress?
- People who prefer a bouncy and responsive feel
- Those who want a bed that’s easier to move around on.
Who Should Get The Nectar Mattress?
- Those who like a slow-moving memory foam feel
- People who need extra pressure relief and body contouring

Mend Renew Vs. Saatva
Both hybrid mattresses, the Mend Renew and Saatva have many similarities. But, unlike Mend, Saatva’s classic model is available in three different firmness levels. The Luxury Firm model feels more supportive than the Mend Renew. If you need more cushioning, you can always opt for Saatva’s Plush Soft version. Saatva also has two different height options available: 11.5” and 14.5”
Saatva mattresses are never compressed into cardboard boxes, so they may last longer than bed-in-a-box models. Because of that, however, they do cost a little bit more than Mend mattresses.
Who Should Get The Mend Mattress?
- People who want to save money
- Those who like comfy medium firm mattresses with lots of cushioning
Who Should Get The Saatva Mattress?
- People who want a more luxurious and durable mattress
- Those who want more firmness and height options
