Helix Moonlight Luxe Mattress Overview
Shoppers who aren’t sure what kind of mattress they need should definitely take a look at the Helix mattresses. Helix offers numerous mattress models that feature different firmnesses, feels and materials. The Helix site even features a sleep quiz that will help you narrow down your decision.
If you are a fan of softer mattresses or sleep on your side, Helix might recommend the Helix Moonlight Luxe. This is one of the brand’s softest mattresses and is part of Helix’s more high-end Helix Luxe line. The Luxe mattresses boast plush pillow tops as well as additional cooling features. This soft, luxurious design makes the Moonlight Luxe a great fit for certain types of people.
Pros of the Helix Moonlight Luxe
- The Helix Moonlight Luxe’s level of softness and support make it a great fit for most side sleepers. They should receive plenty of contouring and pressure relief from its soft pillow-top layer.
- Hybrid mattresses like the Helix Moonlight Luxe are ideal for hot sleepers because of the amount of air that flows through its pocketed coils. The Helix Moonlight Luxe is also sold with an optional GlacioTex™ Cooling Cover that is ultra breathable and cool to the touch.
- This mattress is an excellent choice for couples because of its excellent motion isolation. At the same time, it’s responsive enough to be a good mattress for sex.
Cons of the Helix Moonlight Luxe
- The Helix Moonlight Luxe is a luxury mattress, and it comes in at a luxury price point. Even though its price may be out of a shopper’s budget, it makes for a great long-term investment.
- This mattress is softer than the average level of medium-firmness, so it will not provide enough support to most stomach sleepers. A stomach sleeper’s hips would sink too deeply into the mattress’s plush pillow-top layer, which could cause back pain to develop over time.
- Fans of a firmer mattress will find the Helix Moonlight Luxe too soft and plush. If this is your feel preference, you might feel “stuck inside” the mattress, especially if you are a back or stomach sleeper.

Helix Moonlight Firmness and Feel
When you’re looking for a new mattress, you should think about firmness and feel. This will help you determine if a certain mattress is right for you.
How Firm Is The Helix Moonlight Luxe
The Helix Moonlight Luxe is the second softest Helix Luxe mattress. It feels close to a 6/10 on the Mattress Clarity firmness scale. The industry standard for medium-firm is 6.5, so the Moonlight Luxe is just a tad softer than average.
The top layers of the Moonlight Luxe are very plush and soft. As I will discuss below, the mattress is zoned, so it feels firmer toward the center.
Sleeping On The Helix Moonlight Luxe
When I was back sleeping on the Helix Moonlight Luxe, the mattress wasn’t the best match for me. It is a softer mattress, and back sleepers usually want something medium-firm. I felt like my hips were sinking too far into the Helix Moonlight Luxe. Back sleepers should take a look at the Helix Midnight Luxe or Helix Dusk Luxe, two of the brand’s medium-firm models.
Side sleeping, the Helix Moonlight Luxe felt fantastic. The plush pillow top offered great contouring and relieved almost all the pressure around my shoulder and hips. Side sleepers who want something even softer should consider the Helix Sunset Luxe, Helix’s softest mattress.
However, as a softer mattress, the Helix Moonlight Luxe was not supportive enough for me when I was stomach sleeping. I could feel my hips sinking forward into the mattress, which caused some strain in my lower back. Stomach sleepers will prefer the Helix Twilight Luxe and Helix Dawn Luxe, the firmest mattresses in this line.
What Does The Helix Moonlight Luxe Feel Like
The top of the Helix Moonlight Luxe has a very plush pillow top feel. Lying down, you should mostly get that soft feel.
At the same time, this is a hybrid mattress. The coils found in the support layer add some real bounce to the mattress, making it easier to move around and change positions.
Sleeper Weight | Back Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Stomach Sleepers |
Lightweight (Under 130 lb) | Good | Excellent | Fair |
Average (130 – 230 lb) | Fair | Excellent | Bad |
Heavyweight (Over 230 lb) | Bad | Good | Bad |
Is the Helix Moonlight Luxe Mattress Good For Lightweight People (Under 130 lb)?
- Lightweight back sleepers who prefer a softer mattress should feel comfortable and supported on the Helix Moonlight Luxe. Lightweight back sleepers who want more support should like the Helix Midnight Luxe and Helix Dusk Luxe.
- The Helix Moonlight Luxe is a great match for lightweight side sleepers. Its top foam layer is soft enough to provide contouring and pressure relief around the shoulders and hips.
- Lightweight sleepers typically don’t compress a mattress’s top layers much, so very lightweight stomach sleepers could sleep comfortably on the Helix Moonlight Luxe. But most lightweight sleepers will need something a bit firmer, like the Helix Dusk Luxe, or for those who prefer an ultra-firm feel, the Helix Dawn Luxe.
Is the Helix Moonlight Luxe Mattress Good for Average Weight People (130 – 230 lb)?
- Average weight back sleepers who like a softer mattress could get enough support on the Helix Moonlight Luxe. However, if you weigh closer to 230 lb, you might need something firmer and more supportive.
- The Helix Moonlight Luxe should work very well for average weight side sleepers. If you are of this body type, you should feel excellent relief on your pressure points.
- Stomach sleeping, average weight people won’t get enough support. They will want a firmer mattress to keep their hips elevated.
Is the Helix Moonlight Luxe Mattress Good For Heavyweight People (Over 230 lb)?
- Heavyweight back sleepers will want to opt for one of the medium-firm or firm Helix mattresses. The Helix Moonlight Luxe will probably feel too soft. Much heavier back sleepers could also consider the Helix Plus, Helix’s mattress made just for heavy people.
- If you are a larger person and sleep on your side, the Helix Moonlight Luxe could be a good match. You should feel nice pressure relief but, if you are much heavier than 275 lb, you could bottom out and feel more pressure on your shoulders and hips.
- Heavier stomach sleepers are going to need a firmer mattress overall. They will probably feel their hips and pelvis really dip down into the mattress. This can cause serious back pain over time.
Helix Moonlight Luxe Mattress Construction
So, what exactly is the Helix Moonlight Luxe made of? Let’s take a look inside and discuss the materials.
Cover
With all the Helix Luxe mattresses, you have a choice of two covers. The base model comes with a Tencel Cover that is thin, breathable and helps with heat dissipation.
For an additional cost, you can opt for the GlacioTex™ Cooling Cover. This is designed to help the mattress sleep even cooler. It is cool to the touch and works to pull heat away from your body.
Comfort Layers
The Moonlight Luxe’s main comfort layer is a fluffy pillow top. The cover is tufted with soft foam that creates that cloud-like look and feel.
Then, you have a layer of Helix Responsive Foam which is bouncy and pressure-relieving. Below that, there is a layer of Helix Dynamic Foam. This is a latex-alternative material that is responsive and adds some more bounce to the top of the mattress.
The Helix Dynamic Foam layers rest on another layer of Helix Responsive Foam. This acts as a transition layer and helps ease you down into the mattress.
Support Layers
The Helix Moonlight Luxe features pocketed coils in the support layer. The coils are zoned so that the center of this layer is firmer than the rest. This is designed to provide extra lumbar support and keep your spine in proper neutral alignment. This is ideal no matter what position you sleep in.
The coils rest on a base layer of DuraDense foam. This prevents the coils from digging into your bed frame or foundation.
Mattress Height
The Helix Moonlight Luxe is 14” tall.

Helix Moonlight Luxe Mattress Performance
I ran the Helix Moonlight Luxe through a number of tests for cooling, motion isolation and more. Let’s see how it did.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
The Helix Moonlight Luxe with the optional cooling cover sleeps extremely cool. I can feel the cooling of the cover through my sheets. Also, the coils allow for a good amount of airflow. I personally did not sleep hot on the Moonlight Luxe and think it is a great cooling mattress.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer is important if you need a mattress for couples. Couples should be happy to hear that the Helix Moonlight isolates motion very well. If your partner moves around on the other side of the mattress, they should not disturb you.
Edge Support
Edge support is another good thing for couples to keep in mind. If a mattress has good edge support, that will allow each partner to sleep toward the edge and get more room to sleep.
The Helix Moonlight Luxe has excellent edge support. When I sat and lay down near the edge of the Moonlight Luxe, I felt very secure.
Durability
The Helix Moonlight Luxe is a very durable mattress that contains some high-quality materials. High-density foam, pocketed coils and other luxury materials combine to make a mattress that should last for at least 10 years.
Off-gassing
Off-gassing occurs when you unbox a new bed-in-a-box mattress. The new mattress will give off a slight chemical smell as the mattress expands. This did happen with the Helix Moonlight Luxe, but I placed the mattress in a ventilated room and allowed it to expand for around 48 hours. After those two days, the chemical smell had dissipated completely.
Noise
If you pick a noisy mattress that creaks and squeaks when you move around, it can wake you up during the night. When I moved around on the Helix Moonlight Luxe, it made no noise whatsoever. However, the coils might start to squeak after you sleep on the mattress for a number of years.
Sex
Bouncy mattresses are usually good options for sex because they make it easy to move around. The Helix Moonlight Luxe is responsive and will be a good mattress for sex.

Warranty Info
The Helix Luxe mattresses come with a 15-year warranty. Removing its cover automatically voids the warranty.

Common Helix Moonlight Luxe Complaints
Negative reviews on the product page for the Helix Moonlight Luxe were mixed between feeling that the mattress was too soft or too firm for the user’s liking. How soft or firm a mattress will feel depends on your body type. A lightweight sleeper will find the Helix Moonlight Luxe more firm than a heavyweight sleeper who will sink deeper into the mattress’s comfort layer.

If you’ve narrowed your decision down to a Helix Moonlight, you now have to choose between the Standard and Luxe models. The main construction difference between the Standard and Luxe is right on top. The Helix Moonlight Luxe features a plush pillow top, while the Helix Moonlight Standard does not. In addition, the Moonlight Luxe features zoned coils, providing more lumbar support, but the Moonlight Standard does not feature zoning.
You can also add a cooling cover to the Moonlight Luxe, but the standard model only comes with a Tencel cover. The Tencel cover is breathable, but is not as cooling as the optional cooling cover.
With these extra features, the Helix Moonlight Luxe costs more than the Helix Moonlight Standard.

Helix Moonlight Luxe MattressFirmness
Soft: 6/10Score
The Helix Sunset is the softest mattress that Helix sells and was named Mattress Clarity’s best soft mattress. Both the Helix Sunset and the Helix Moonlight Luxe are soft and supportive enough for side sleepers to get lots of pressure relief.
These mattresses contain different types of foam comfort layers that distinguish their feel and how hot they sleep. The Helix Sunset features a layer of Copper Gel Memory Foam to dissipate body heat. The Helix Moonlight Luxe’s comfort layer made from Dynamic Foam gives the mattress a bouncier feel than the Helix Sunset which is more balanced.
Because the Helix Sunset is not in Helix’s luxury collection, it comes with a 10-year warranty instead of a 15-year warranty and is more affordable than the Helix Moonlight Luxe. Just like other Helix mattresses, shoppers have the option to upgrade the standard Tencel cover to a GlacioTex™ Cooling Cover when purchasing the Helix Sunset.

FAQs
Is the Helix Moonlight Luxe any good?
The Helix Moonlight Luxe is a very high-quality mattress, but it’s made for particular types of people. It is going to work well for side sleepers, hot sleepers and those who want a durable, luxury mattress. While it is a good mattress, it won’t work well for stomach sleepers and fans of firmer mattresses.
Can you flip the Helix Moonlight Luxe?
No, you cannot flip the Helix Moonlight Luxe. Flipping it will not allow it to perform correctly. This hybrid mattress should only rest with the coils on the bottom and the plush pillow top on top.
How long will the Helix Moonlight Luxe last?
The Helix Moonlight Luxe should last for at least 10 years. However, it will last longer if you rotate and clean it regularly.
