Helix Midnight Elite Mattress Review: General Overview
Helix is a brand that is all about options. The original and Luxe lines each offer six mattress models that range from very soft to very firm. Now, Helix has launched the Elite line, its most luxurious set of mattresses.
The Helix Midnight Elite is one of the line’s medium-firm models and is designed to accommodate sleepers of many types. Still it is going to be a better option for some and not for others.
Pros of the Helix Midnight Elite
- Because it’s made with high-end materials, it’s a durable mattress that should last at least a decade.
- It offers pressure relief for side sleepers, thanks to its plush comfort layer.
- It’s a great cooling mattress, because it contains breathable coils and heat-dissipating foam layers.
Cons of the Helix Midnight Elite
- This is Helix’s most luxurious mattress, so it has higher price point.
- It’s too soft for stomach sleeping. In this sleeping position, people may develop lower back pain.
- It’s a bouncy mattress. If you’re looking for a bed with a slow-moving feel, you may want to get one of the best memory foam mattresses.

Helix Midnight Elite Firmness and Feel
Now, let’s take a look at how firm the Helix Midnight Elite is and what it feels like.
How Firm is the Helix Midnight Elite Mattress?
The Helix Midnight Elite scored a 6/10 during our firmness tests. This is a bit softer than 6.5/10, which is the industry standard for medium-firm. The mattress features many comfort layers, but the addition of microcoils ensures you don’t sink too far into the mattress. This design helps create a balance of comfort and support.
Sleeping on the Helix Midnight Elite Mattress
I enjoyed back sleeping on the Helix Midnight Elite mattress. The multiple layers of foam and microcoils conformed to the shape of my body, and the zoned coils supported me where I needed it. I felt especially good support under my lower back.
Side sleeping, the Helix Midnight Elite was also a good match. I sank into the plush top layers and felt almost no pressure on my shoulders and hips. The mattress is also zoned, so it felt softer under my shoulders.
However, stomach sleeping did not feel the best on the Helix Midnight Elite. Even with the zoning, the mattress let my hips and center mass dip down into the mattress. Strict stomach sleepers should consider one of the brand’s firmer models.
What Does the Helix Midnight Elite Mattress Feel Like?
The Helix Midnight Elite has a very unique feel. It has a plush pillow top feel right on top of the mattress, but it also has an incredible amount of bounce. It has two sets of microcoils in the comfort layer that makes moving around very easy.
Sleeper Weight | Back Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Stomach Sleepers |
Lightweight (Under 130 lb) | Excellent | Excellent | Fair |
Avreage (130 – 230 lb) | Good | Excellent | Bad |
Heavyweight (Over 230 lb) | Good | Good | Bad |
Helix Midnight Elite Mattress Construction
Now, let’s look under the cover of the Helix Midnight Elite to see what the layers are.
Cover
The Helix Midnight Elite features a cover woven with GlacioTex™ Elite cooling fabric. This draws heat away from your body and keeps you from overheating during the night.
Comfort Layers
The first comfort of the layer Helix Midnight Elite is a plush pillow top. The cover is quilted with soft foam to create a tufted, pillowy look and feel.
Below that, there is a layer of Helix Dynamic Foam. This is proprietary to the brand and provides some good bounce and pressure relief as well.
Next, we have something you don’t normally find this close to the top of a mattress – microcoils. But, this soft layer of coils adds great contouring and give to bed.
The coils rest on a layer of Helix’s Memory Plus Foam. This pressure-relieving material sits atop a layer of individually-wrapped microcoils.
Finally, all these layers rest on another layer of Helix Dynamic Foam and a High-grade Polyfoam transition layer. This ensures you don’t “bottom out” on the mattress.
Support Layers
The main support layer of the Helix Midnight Elite consists of zoned, individually-wrapped coils. These are extremely supportive, and the zoning provides even more support toward the center of the mattress. This is meant to help keep your spine in neutral alignment, no matter what position you sleep in.
The coils rest on a thin layer of DuraDense Foam. This supports all the layers above and keeps the coils from digging into your bed frame.
Mattress Height
The Helix Midnight Elite is 16” tall.

Helix Midnight Elite Mattress Performance
I ran the Helix Midnight Elite through many tests. Here is how it performed.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
During my tests, the Helix Midnight Elite was truly cool to the touch. Placing my hand on the cover, it had a very chill feel. Also, lying down on the mattress, I did not feel like I was overheating at all.
Also, with its multiple sets of coils, the mattress is extremely breathable. Air should flow easily through the mattress, and it shouldn’t trap too much heat. See our best cooling mattresses for more options.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer occurs when your partner moves around on their side of the mattress, and this disturbs you on your side of the mattress. Or, vice versa.
The Helix Midnight Elite performed well during my tests. I placed a glass of water on the mattress, and pushed into the other areas of the mattress. The glass was barely disturbed. And, when I lay down on one side of the mattress, and someone moved around on their other side, it did not disturb me. It should be a good mattress for couples.
Edge Support
The Helix Midnight Elite is a tall, supportive mattress with fantastic edge support. Sitting near the edge of the mattress, it doesn’t collapse at all. I’m a taller, heavier guy (270 lb), and it is a rare occurrence for my feet not to touch the ground when I sit near the edge. But, that was what happened on the Helix!
Also, lying down near the edge, the mattress did not make me feel like I was going to roll off. I could sleep all the way to the edge with no issues.
Durability
The Helix Midnight Elite is a part of the brand’s Elite line of luxury mattresses. With multiple sets of coils and many layers of high-density foam, the Midnight Elite is a very durable mattress. Based on its construction, it should last for more than 10 years.
Off-gassing
Like any bed-in-a-box mattress, there is going to be some off-gassing with the Helix Midnight Elite. However, this is normal and, when I gave the mattress a few days to off-gas, the smell was gone.
Noise
The Helix Midnight Elite was a very quiet mattress. When I rolled around, changed positions, and got in and out of bed, I heard no noise whatsoever.
However, you should keep one thing in mind – coils may squeak after many years of use. After you’ve had the mattress for over 10 years, the Helix Midnight Elite might not be so quiet.
Sex
If you want a good mattress for sex, responsiveness is the key. A bouncy mattress will make it easier for you and your partner to reposition during those intimate moments.
Thankfully, the Helix Midnight Elite is a very bouncy mattress. I personally had no trouble moving around, and most sexual partners shouldn’t either.

Helix Midnight Elite vs Helix Midnight

Firmness
Score
Product
Helix Midnight MattressFirmness
Medium-firm: 7/10Score
The Helix Midnight is one of the brand’s most popular models. It has a medium firmness close to 6.5/10, so it is a bit firmer than the Helix Midnight Elite. This is because it features nowhere near as many comfort materials. It also features fewer cooling materials and, without a pillow top, it has more of a slow-moving feel right on top.
But, while you do get a lot more with the Helix Midnight Elite, it is going to cost more than the Helix Midnight. It will be a better long-term investment, but you will spend more money upfront.

Helix Midnight Elite vs DreamCloud Premier Rest
Product
Firmness
Score
The DreamCloud Premier Rest is DreamCloud’s highest-end mattress. Like the Helix Midnight Elite, it also boasts a plush pillow top and has a firmness of 6/10. But, it does not contain as many cooling materials and has fewer comfort layers.
In addition, the DreamCloud Premier costs less than the Helix Midnight Elite.
Who Should Get The Helix Midnight Elite? | Who Should Get The DreamCloud Premier Rest? |
Those who want something very high-end | Those who want to save money |
People who need more support | Lighter-weight people |
The Helix Midnight Elite truly lives up to its “Elite” name. It offers a high-end design that should last for many years, and its comfort materials are great for side sleepers. And, if you’re worried about sleeping hot, the Helix Midnight Elite should cool your fears.
However, it is probably too soft for you stomach sleepers out there. You should consider one of the brand’s firmer models, like the Dawn. Fans of a memory foam feel will think this bed is too bouncy. And, while you get a lot for your money, the Helix’s higher price point might be too much for some value shoppers.
