Nolah Airfiber Pillow Firmness and Feel

Buying pillows online can be a bit confusing when you can’t test it out yourself until you’ve already paid. Not to worry, I’ve handled the Airfiber™ pillow extensively, so I’m here to help with the firmness and feel.

How Firm is the Nolah Airfiber Pillow?

The Nolah Airfiber™ pillow is a fairly soft pillow. It holds its shape well, but it compresses very easily and readily when you apply any weight to it. If you’re a fan of a more supportive, firm pillow, be sure to check out our list of the best firm pillows.

Sleeping on the Nolah Airfiber Pillow

Right out of the box, the Airfiber™ pillow is fully fluffed and ready for use. When I was getting a feel for this pillow, I noticed how easy it was to compress it. It’s super plush, and has a cushioning feel to it.

The down alternative is really easy to move around on, making changing positions easy. I started out on my side. For me, this wasn’t a perfect match. I felt myself compress the pillow too much. I still felt some support, but I could feel my head inching ever so slightly downward after a while.

Moving on to my back, it felt like a good fit. I was able to compress the pillow enough to achieve that medium loft that’s ideal for back sleeping. But when I moved on to my stomach, this pillow was great. It got nice and flat with my weight on it.

30-60 Min Nap

When it came time for a nap, I found myself favoring sleeping on my stomach. While I’m a side sleeper through and through, I do have moments where sleeping on my stomach feels good. And because this pillow was able to get nice and flat, it was a great feeling for stomach sleeping.

The outer cover feels nice and soft, while being cool to the touch. I felt virtually no heat build up in this pillow, and that’s thanks to the breathable phase change material on the outside.

What Does the Nolah Airfiber Pillow Feel Like?

The Airfiber™ pillow has a very plush, cushiony feel to it.

Average Weight Sleepers – 130 lb – 230 lb

Average weight sleepers of all sleeping positions should find comfort and support in the Airfiber™ pillow. Back sleepers will be able to keep their chin in line with their sternum for a good, neutral alignment.

Side sleepers with broad shoulders may want to opt for one of the best pillows for side sleepers, as this pillow does compress quite a bit. But it’s that very reason that makes it an ideal pillow for stomach sleepers. This pillow gets very low and flat.

Heavyweight Sleepers – Over 230 lb

I’d be worried about fellow heavier side sleepers on the Airfiber™ pillow. I think our weight compresses the pillow too much, and we can’t keep our head elevated while we sleep. This is a recipe for neck pain.

Heavyweight back and stomach sleepers, however, should find ideal comfort and support with this pillow.

Lightweight Sleepers – Under 130 lb

Lightweight sleepers of all sleeping positions will find optimal comfort and support on the Airfiber™ pillow.

Nolah Airfiber Pillow Construction – H2

Let’s take a look at the materials that go into the Nolah Airfiber™ pillow.

Cover

The cover is a blend of cotton and something called Outlast® fibers, which is a phase change material. This will absorb heat and stay cool to the touch all night long, making this a cooling pillow.

Core

Within that cotton cover is down alternative polyester fiber called, as the name suggests, Airfiber™. Nolah also blends the Airfiber™ with the Outlast® fibers to really make this a cool pillow.

Height/Loft

Loft refers to the height of a pillow. This is important to consider because the three sleeping positions need a different pillow loft.

The Nolah is roughly 6” tall. However, this pillow can compress a lot, which means it can work well for all sleeping positions, depending on your body size.

Nolah Airfiber Pillow Performance

Now let’s touch on some other factors you should consider before buying a Nolah Airfiber™ pillow for yourself.

Sleeping Hot or Cold

The Airfiber™ pillow was designed to be a cooling pillow. It has phase change material both in and outside, using the Outlast® fibers. And with cotton blended into the cover, it’s very breathable so there’s lots of airflow.

I never slept too hot, and found myself feeling temperature neutral white resting.

Off-Gassing

The Airfiber™ pillow was not compressed when I unpackaged it. It was ready to use right out of the box. And I never noticed a chemical smell, so you won’t have to worry about it needing to off-gas.

Care Instructions

Unfortunately, the Nolah Airfiber™ pillow is not machine-washable. If stains happen or develop, be sure to spot clean the affected area. Nolah recommends treating the pillow with water and soap, making sure not to soak the pillow too much.

Allergies

Though Nolah doesn’t list this pillow as a hypoallergenic option, I can’t see it trapping allergens, or triggering any allergies. This is because the down alternative and cover don’t tend to trap dirt, dust mites, or other irritants that might be in your sleep environment.

Company Policies

Here’s what you can expect when you purchase the Airfiber™ pillow from Nolah.

Warranty Info

Nolah offers a 2-year warranty on the Nolah Airfiber™ pillow.

Sleep Trial

Unlike a Nolah mattress, there is no set trial period for the Nolah Airfiber™ pillow. However, you do have 30 days to issue a return or exchange.

Return Policy

Nolah offers free shipping on all orders. You are responsible for paying the shipping fee on a return or exchange, or you have the option to reach out to Nolah and receive a discounted return label. Regardless, you’ll still receive a full refund.

How Does the Nolah Airfiber Pillow Compare To Other Pillows?

No pillow is perfect, and everyone has different preferences. Let’s compare the Nolah Airfiber™ pillow to two pillows from popular brands TEMPUR-Pedic and Brooklyn Bedding.

Nolah vs TEMPUR-Pedic

Memory foam pillows are great for people who are looking for that classic, slow-moving feel. The TEMPUR-Cloud pillow features the brand’s proprietary TEMPUR material. If you’re looking for some good support, while also sinking into a pillow for pressure relief, the Cloud is a good option.

A close up of the TEMPUR-Cloud pillow.

However, unlike the Airfiber™ pillow, memory foam can trap heat. So, if you’re a hot sleeper, the Nolah pillow will work better for you. Especially if you love that fluffy, cushiony feel from down alternative.

Nolah vs Brooklyn Bedding

Hot sleepers who want a little more support should check out the Brooklyn Bedding Talalay Latex pillow. Unlike the Airfiber™ pillow, this comes in two lofts, a low and hi. The hi loft will work a lot better for side sleepers as it’ll keep their head supported and in a neutral alignment.

The Airfiber™ pillow has a fluffy down alternative that can be compressed quite a bit, making it ideal for stomach sleepers. But for those looking for a thicker, supportive pillow, Talalay latex is springy, responsive and easy to move around on.
