When you’ve reviewed as many adjustable bases as I have, they really start to run together. Most bases have identical designs, and it is very difficult to tell them apart. This base boasted some features I hadn’t experienced before, and I was interested to see how it all worked. Is this base something special? Read on for my full Brooklyn Bedding Ascension Ultra adjustable base review.

Brooklyn Bedding Ascension Ultra Adjustable Base Review: General Overview
I have long been a fan of Brooklyn Bedding, especially the Brooklyn Bedding mattresses. The brand offers some high-quality mattresses that aren’t a big hit to your wallet. To go along with mattresses like the Brooklyn Bedding Signature and Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe, the brand also sells two adjustable bases, the Brooklyn Bedding Ascension Luxe and the Brooklyn Bedding Ascension Ultra.
The Ascension Ultra is the brand’s most advanced adjustable base and boasts extra adjustability and a sleek design. Overall, I was impressed by the Ascension Ultra, but it is still not going to be for everyone.
Pros of the Brooklyn Bedding Ascension Ultra
- Nice extra features
- Good value
- Great wall hugging
Cons of the Brooklyn Bedding Ascension Ultra
- Only available in one size
- Difficult setup
- Slow to adjust
How Does The Brooklyn Bedding Ascension Ultra Adjustable Base Work?
Let’s start off by looking at what the Brooklyn Bedding base is made of and how it all works.
Design
At first glance, the Brooklyn Bedding has a similar design to the best adjustable bases I have reviewed. It has a metal frame, two motors and a platform top made of polyfoam and fabric.
However, according to the brand, this is the “slimmest design on the market.” Taking a closer look, the top is thinner and sleeker than many other bases. Most bases have a bulkier platform, but the Ascension Ultra is definitely on the slimmer side.
Settings
Beyond the sleek design, it is the functionality that really makes the Brooklyn Bedding Ascension Ultra stand out. Of course, you can raise the head and foot areas of the base, but it doesn’t stop there. You can also control the tilt at the very top of the head section to zero in the elevation of your head and back.
Beyond that, you also have two programmable presets to create your own comfortable settings. You can also use the built-in Anti-Snore, Zero Gravity, and TV functions. And, like many bases, the Brooklyn Bedding has a massage function.
Finally, the base features USB ports and lighting below the base. With the USB ports, you can charge your cellphone, and the lighting will act as a nightlight if you need to get up and use the restroom. I tried out all of these features for myself, and you can read about my experience down below.
Brooklyn Bedding Ascension Ultra Adjustable Base Compatibility
An adjustable base isn’t really anything by itself. I judge a base by how it handles the weight of both a mattress and sleeper. According to the brand, the Ascension Ultra can handle up to 850 lb.
But, I really wanted to put this to the test. Instead of a Brooklyn Bedding mattress, I used a thick, heavy TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze mattress. With both the mattress and me on top, I was interested to see if the Brooklyn Bedding could handle all of the weight.
First off, with the base in its flat position, it had no trouble supporting the mattress and me. I got in and out of bed and rolled around, and the base felt sturdy and strong.
However, when I started to adjust the base, it had a little trouble lifting the mattress and me. The motor whined loudly, and I heard some creaking as well. This might be because it is a newer base, but it was noticeable.
Also, the mattress did not stay completely flush against the base when I raised the head and foot areas. A Brooklyn Bedding mattress may fare better on this base, but the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze raised off the base, especially in the middle.
How To Assemble The Brooklyn Bedding Ascension Adjustable Base
Okay, this was a tough one to assemble. First off, most bases come in one box and, besides screwing on the legs, there is little to no assembly.
That was not the case with the Brooklyn Bedding. This beast came in two boxes, and they were both heavy. I thank my lucky stars that my coworker was there to help me assemble this base. When the box says “Two Person Lift,” it means it.
Putting the two pieces together was extremely difficult. You have to line up the two sections of the base perfectly or you won’t be able to bolt them together. We moved the pieces around for about 20 minutes and, even then, it was not perfect. Still, we were able to bolt it together and get to work on the junction box.
That’s right, you do need to do a little bit of plugging to get the Brooklyn Bedding adjustable base set up. You don’t need an electrician’s certification, but it is not easy. I weaved the wires of the foot section under the center metal beam and, after some sweating and a few choice words, I got everything plugged in. My coworker and I then sat down for a cold drink and thought about our life choices.

Brooklyn Bedding Ascension Ultra Adjustable Base Performance
My favorite part of reviewing bases is actually taking them for a test drive. I tried out all of the features of the Brooklyn Bedding. While some of the functionality was great, the base was lacking in other areas.
Materials
As I said above, the materials are pretty standard in the Brooklyn Bedding Ascension adjustable base. That being said, the base appears to have a sturdy design. Lying on it and using the different functions, it felt durable and supportive.
Adjustability
The Brooklyn Bedding Ascension Ultra’s adjustability really stands out. I was able to raise the head and foot areas of the base with no problem, but it didn’t stop there. The tilt function let me incline the top of the head area just a bit. This was great for when I was sitting up watching television or when I wanted to give my head a bit more elevation when I was lying down.
Remote Control
There was a lot going on with the remote control, but I didn’t find it hard to use. There are plenty of options to choose from, but I was able to figure it out without the use of directions.
Wall Hugging
The Ascension Ultra featured some of the best wall hugging I have experienced. When I raised the head, the entire top part of the platform shifted toward the back wall. This kept me close to my side table, even when I was raised up. With some adjustable bases, there is no wall hugging, which makes it difficult to reach your side table for your phone or drink.
Noise
The Ascension Ultra was a noisier adjustable base. As I said above, when I adjusted it, the base made a high-pitch whining noise. All adjustable bases make some noise when you use them, but this base was louder.
It also didn’t help that the base moved so slowly. Raising the head or foot areas to their highest settings took almost 30 seconds. Hearing that whining noise for so long was a strain on my ears.
Zero Gravity Function
I loved the Brooklyn Bedding’s Zero Gravity function. It raised my feet up quite high and raised my head up just a tad. This eased pressure on my lower back, and I felt very comfortable. Paired with the proper mattress for back pain, the Brooklyn Bedding could help with those pain issues.
The TV function was similar to the Zero Gravity function, but it raised the head area up higher. This was my favorite setting on the base, and I am actually using it as I write this review.
Anti-Snore Function
The Brooklyn Bedding Ascension Ultra’s Anti-Snore function did the trick as well. I deal with sleep apnea and am quite the snorer. I usually use a pillow to elevate my head, but this setting raised my head to the perfect degree. Paired with my CPAP machine, it was effective and comfortable.
Massage
I rate a base’s massage function on its ability to vibrate through a thicker mattress. Testing it with the TEMPUR-LuxeBreeze, I could feel the massage vibrations. I enjoyed how there were three settings and pulse functions as well.
Brooklyn Bedding Ascension Ultra Adjustable Base Pros and Cons
Again, here were the benefits and drawbacks of the Brooklyn Bedding Ascension Ultra adjustable base.
Pros
- At less than $1,500 for a Queen-size, it is a great value pick.
- The base boasts some extra features that make it stand out among the pack.
- It featured excellent wall hugging, so I was never far from my side table.
Cons
- It was very difficult to set up the base.
- The base was noisy and was slow to adjust.
