For many, a weighted blanket is a must-have in the bedroom. They’ve become a popular bedding accessory because they’re cozy, offer some additional warmth and are proven to help us feel calmer while we use them. So, it’s no surprise that mattress brands like Puffy are getting into the weighted blanket game.
In my unbiased Puffy weighted blanket review, I’ll go through my testing process, explain the materials, weight options, care instructions and more. Keep reading to find out all the details.

Puffy is a mattress brand known for its cloud-like beds. We’ve reviewed the Puffy original mattress as well as the brand’s more luxurious models like the Puffy Lux Hybrid. But in addition to mattresses, Puffy makes a number of accessories. The brand’s bamboo sheets are my personal favorite sheets (and I sleep with them every night).

30-60 Min Nap with the Puffy Weighted Blanket
The Puffy weighted blanket comes with an added duvet cover, and right out of the box, it was all put together. So, when it came time for me to bust it out and test it, it was already put together and ready for use. This was a huge plus right off the bat as attaching covers can be a bit tricky.
The outer cover felt really soft and minky, meaning it has a slight fuzz to it. I knew this was going to be a cozy blanket from that alone. And when I climbed into bed with the blanket, that’s exactly what it felt like.
This blanket will definitely add warmth. As a bigger guy, I tend to run pretty hot. And the fact that I live in Texas, where it gets really hot most of the year, I felt really warm underneath this blanket. With the air conditioning and a ceiling fan running, I could stand the blanket for a quick nap.
However, after about an hour, I could tell I wasn’t going to be able to sleep with it much longer. If I had tested this in the wintertime, I would have used it for longer, but at the time of writing this review, it’s the hottest part of a Texan summer, so not an ideal time for weighted blankets. If you live in a similar climate to me, I wouldn’t call the Puffy blanket a year-rounder.
How Much Does the Puffy Weighted Blanket Weigh?
Puffy offers its weighted blanket in two weight options, 15 and 20 lb. For this review I tested the 15 lb queen size blanket. This weight option also comes in a throw size, and the 20 lb only comes in king-size.
Personally, 15 lb is a bit too light for me. I don’t always feel the weight on me as a bigger guy. However, the 15 lb blanket is a good choice for a lot of average weight adults who are looking for weighted blankets.
We have a weighted blanket calculator to help you find the right weight option for you. But a good rule of thumb is to take your weight and divide that number by 10. That’ll give you 10% of your body weight, which is a good starting point for most people who are shopping for a weighted blanket.

How Does the Puffy Weighted Blanket Feel?
The outer cover of the Puffy weighted blanket is soft and minky. In terms of the weight, the blanket was a bit too light for me to really feel the effects that weighted blankets are known for. Weighted blankets can help stimulate a feeling called deep pressure touch, which is that calming sensation we get when we hug someone. So, weighted blankets are often described as feeling like a hug.
For me, as I mentioned, I think I’d need something a bit heavier to feel that full effect. But the blanket was comfy and cozy and still a good deal heavier than a standard blanket.

Let’s go over some important performance considerations for the Puffy weighted blanket.
Sleeping Hot or Cold
Unless weighted blankets are made with certain materials or constructed in a way to let air flow through, these heavy blankets will add warmth while you rest. And that is definitely the case with the Puffy weighted blanket. This blanket is optimized for a warm, cozy feeling. So, if you live in a colder climate or get cold quickly, this blanket is for you.
However, if you’re a hot sleeper like myself, the Puffy weighted blanket will probably be ok for a quick nap here and there, but not for all-night use. I also live in Texas, so I only see myself using this blanket during the wintertime.
Care instructions
The Puffy weighted blanket is entirely machine-washable. You can remove the outer cover and wash it. General care instructions include machine-washing with cold water and a mild detergent.
The inner blanket is also machine-washable. However, I do recommend removing the cover and washing the weighted insert by itself. Be sure to wash it on a gentle cycle to protect both the blanket and your machine. Puffy recommends that you air dry the blanket insert.
Allergies/Allergens?
Puffy mentions that the outer cover is hypoallergenic. This material won’t trigger any allergies or irritate sensitive skin. And if it does attract allergens or any dirt, it is machine-washable which should remove that from the cover.
Puffy Weighted Blanket Construction
The Puffy weighted blanket has two main pieces to it. The outer cover and the weighted insert itself make up the Puffy weighted blanket.
The outer cover is made with a mink-like polyester that is naturally hypoallergenic. Along one side is a long zipper that allows you to remove it and access the blanket inside. The insert is made with twill cotton that is sewn through which helps keep the weighted fill evenly distributed.
Within the insert, Puffy uses nano-ceramic beads to give this blanket its weight.

Every Puffy mattress and accessory has a 101-night trial period. So, from the day the Puffy weighted blanket arrives on your doorstep, you’ll have about three months to test out the weighted blanket to see if it’s the right fit for you.

Weighted blankets come in all sorts of different designs and options. The Puffy weighted blanket is a great option for those who love minky feeling blankets. But if you’re not so sure this is the weighted blanket for you, let’s compare the Puffy blanket to two other weighted blankets that will offer different experiences.
Puffy vs Baloo
Baloo is a company that makes both weighted blankets and weighted comforters. So, right off the bat you’ve got a number of options to choose from if you’re looking at Baloo. Puffy’s weighted blanket only comes in a standard throw or queen-size option. Baloo’s standard weighted blanket has throw, queen, and king-size options available in addition to the oversized weighted comforters.
However, Baloo’s weighted blanket comes to you as is without an additional cover, unlike the Puffy blanket. If you prefer a soft, minky feeling to your blanket that comes with a duvet cover, the Puffy blanket will be for you.
Finally, the level of warmth and coziness of each blanket will vary. During my tests, I found that the Puffy blanket provided a good deal of warmth. The Baloo blanket still felt cozy, but not as warm as the Puffy blanket. If you want some extra warmth from your blanket, go for Puffy. But if you overheat quickly, go for Baloo.

Puffy vs Beraby
Right off the bat you’ll notice a huge difference between the Puffy weighted blanket and the Bearaby Tree Napper. The Bearaby blanket has a chunky knit construction, meaning it can literally open up and you can see through the loops of the design. This makes this blanket really ideal for hot sleepers who want to use weighted blankets because it won’t trap heat.
But the chunky knit design might not be what everyone wants in a blanket. If you prefer a more traditional look to your blankets, the Puffy blanket will look like your standard minky throw blanket. Because of this, it’ll work better for people who get cold quickly or live in colder climates.
Finally, if you’re someone who prefers options, Bearaby provides a good deal more than Puffy. The Puffy weighted blanket only comes in two weight options and only comes in gray. Puffy Weighted Blanket FAQs
How do you clean the Puffy weighted blanket?
The Puffy weighted blanket is 100% machine-washable. The outer cover and the weighted insert can be washed in the machine on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Puffy recommends air drying the insert.
I’d recommend that when you wash the blanket, have it be the only thing in the machine. Weighted blankets are heavy and bulky and if you add more to the machine, you run the risk of ruining your machine.
What if I don’t like my Puffy weighted blanket?
Puffy offers a 101-night trial period for you to test out the Puffy weighted blanket at home. If, during this time period, you decide this isn’t the blanket for you, or need a different version of it, you can make exchanges or make a return for a full refund.
Is it safe to sleep with a weighted blanket every night?
In general, yes. Weighted blankets won’t cause any issues, so long as you are using a weight option that works for you.
Individuals who have circulatory problems, toddlers and babies are the only groups that shouldn’t use weighted blankets for long periods of time.
